  • Anticlimax Boss: After you get past the second virtual section on the final boss fight with the Core — which ends with a short Mirror Boss battle, the giant mech in the real world just abruptly explodes thanks to both its cores being destroyed. You might expect the boss to have one more final phase by playing the game on Hardcore mode like how certain Konami games in the 16-bit era worked but no, that's all there is to it.
  • Funny Moments:
    • When Commander Zet (the first miniboss of Stage 4) is beaten, his defeated body explodes a bit and deactivates standing up. Your character then has the opportunity to use a melee attack to push him over to add insult to injury.
    • In the final stage, the second miniboss (the huge gorilla-like robot who crushes the armadillo-like one) gets reduced to a pair of useless legs when it takes enough damage. You still have to destroy those legs.
  • Goddamned Bats:
    • The mantis-like melee robots that rush at you from both sides. They're fast, appear in numbers, and if you lapse in concentration especially on Hardcore mode, they'll damage you on contact.
    • The mutated quadrupedal beasts serve as the organic counterparts to the melee robots, except that they can also climb on ceilings before dropping down on you.
    • The flying bug enemies carrying Recursive Ammo bombs. Even if you do kill them they'll still drop the bomb, which explodes into a Spread Shot of four smaller bombs that rain down when it's shot down or when it hits the ground. Those are destructible, but will still add to the frantic action going on.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The game is heavily based on the Contra games and is regarded well by that series' fans. It also happened to get released a short time after the announcement of Contra: Rogue Corps, which got the series out of limbo but received a divisive reception because of its drastic gameplay changes.
  • Spiritual Successor: The game is essentially a sequel/love letter to Contra III: The Alien Wars and Contra: Hard Corps.
