• The Scrappy: Rachel, for her obnoxious self-righteousness and the way she, a white woman, belittles the Inupiat way of life and openly mocks their traditional beliefs. She's so unbearable that you could easily think she was created to be a negative stereotype of environmental activists, and it's a shock to realize she's meant to be likeable and sympathetic.
• Tear Jerker: Bamm-Bamm's death. Though it isn't shown onscreen, just the fact that he died just an infant is enough to make family audiences shed tears.
