YMMV / Batman: Last Knight on Earth

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The trailer for the Comic Book starts off strong with an awesome (yet sadly short) metal track.
  • Fridge Horror: All the offhand mentions of corners of the DCU that were ruined just increase the impression of how badly shit hit the fan if you thinks hard enough, especially if you know your DC lore. For instance, The Spectre died when Heaven and Hell were destroyed. Really think about that, especially what it means for the Big Man Upstairs.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Omega is in reality the original Bruce Wayne, having managed to survive most of humanity's turn to evil through sheer force of will. Embittered and deciding to use more extreme measures to save humanity from itself, Bruce reinvents himself as the conqueror Omega, defeating and slaying Darkseid and any hero or villain that stood in his way, in the process gaining control over the Anti-Life Equation and using it to rule over Gotham and the rest of the United States' eastern seaboard; planning to extend the Equation's signal worldwide using a captive Martian Manhunter. Knowing that he would soon die due to old age and his injuries, Omega orders the creation of a clone of Bruce Wayne to either replace him or stop him. When the clone escapes and becomes a new Batman, Omega anticipates an attack and ambushes him and the disembodied head of the Joker, nearly killing the Clown Prince of Crime. Facing Batman in a climactic showdown atop Wayne Manor, Omega holds his own against his younger duplicate, although he is mortally wounded, taking one last look at the city before he dies.
  • Older Than They Think: A plot where the main antagonist is the original version of the main hero who is a copy of him, named Omega? Mega Man Zero 3 did this years ago, though it's all both stories have in common.
  • Tear Jerker: Lex challenged Superman to a debate of ideals, which was telepathically broadcast to the whole world. At the end of the debate, the whole world chooses who wins, and the loser dies. Lex is so moved by Superman's speech that he ends up with a Heel–Face Turn and is sure that he's lost, but he's wrong. Superman dies and the world devolves into chaos.
    • Alfred's death. He's injected with Scarecrow's toxins, which, instead of causing him to hallucinate his nightmares, cause a delusion that he convinced the Waynes not go to that fateful Zorro showing. Alfred passes away peacefully, utterly content in his fantasy.
      • The above is compounded by the reveal that Omega, who oversees Alfred's death, is the original Bruce Wayne. Even as Omega murdered scores of villains, enslaved his fellow Leaguer J'onn, and waged war against his family without a single hint of remorse, he left Alfred alone for years. Then when he eventually did kill him, he gave Alfred a painless, even happy, death.
