- The inescapable Green Aesop is hammered in quite a lot throughout the movie. Though the movie gets some recognition for at least acknowledging that Makena's parents are good people who don't know how much harm they cause.
- The aesop of cherishing a good friendship is also portrayed with no subtlety whatsoever, since Makena's friends outside of Thumbelina are portrayed as one-dimensional, shallow jerks.
- And if you somehow missed the "David vs Goliath" aesop of small people being capable of doing big things, Barbie literally spells it out for you.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The main reason it's considered one of the worst Barbie movies. It has nothing to do with the original fairytale, aside from the main character's name and there being a race of Lilliputians.
