YMMV / Barbie (1991)

  • Awesome Music: The music for the Underwater Level is rather enchanting.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • In the Underwater Level, both the appearance and the sound of the jellyfish give an ominous feel, especially if it clings onto you (it's most likely to appear if you backtrack for any reason such as going the wrong way in the maze, but also if you go too slowly in the level.) Also, that same noise is heard if you fall during the Jukebox Level.
    • When Barbie tries to dissolve the ice cream sundae scoops in the Soda Shop Level, at one point, the melting chocolate gets smaller and the cherry spins inside it in an unnaturally off way.
    • The cutscenes with Barbie in her bedroom with the lights off are a bit jarring to watch, as Barbie's eyes have a weird glow look, making her resemble an alien.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The game clearly wasn't going to set the video game world on fire, but it's still considered a basic but decent platformer (and some consider it the best Barbie video game).
  • That One Level:
    • The water fountain/jumping fish areas during the Shopping Mall Level are rather tedious (and begs the question, "If Barbie can't get wet here, then how can she be fine in the Underwater Level?"). This scenario is repeated in the Soda Shop Level with the flipping french fries stage.
    • Inside the Jukebox takes precision jumping and patience (at one point you have to keep jumping on a rotating platform in order to wait to continue the level), and if you fall off, you have to start all over again.
