The 1958 movie contains examples of:

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: The film features an attractive, scantily-clad Giant Woman as its primary draw, which is certainly very appealing for a significant number of people for... certain reasons, which has definitely helped its Cult Classic status.
  • Cult Classic: Even with atrocious "special" effects and a meandering story that fails to deliver on the premise until the last eight minutes, the movie, and its iconic poster, have nonetheless left a significant mark on pop culture (even being the Trope Namer for Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever), more so than almost any other 50s sci-fi b-movie.
  • Nightmare Retardant: The giant alien just looks like a normal bald human, but everyone seems to see it as a unbelievably horrifying monster.
  • Padding: Despite barely being an hour long, it takes forever for the premise to happen, with numerous dialogue scenes between inconsequential characters. Even the subplot involving the giant alien ends up going nowhere and it still takes another twenty minutes for Nancy to "attack" after she's turned giant (and this is a huge flaw for a movie only an hour long).
  • So Bad, It's Good: A genuinely awful movie but it still has its fans for an unconventional "monster", interesting feminist subtext, hilariously terrible effects, and certain other reasons.
  • Special Effects Failure: Boy, howdy!
    • Both the giant alien and Nancy appear translucent and glowing in several shots, presumably due to bad compositing.
    • The use of the same walk cycle of Nancy composited into numerous different scenes, aside from the translucency issues noted, resulting in a particularly bad case of Your Size May Vary since the scale doesn't line up at all.
    • Even for The '50s, it's obvious Harry is just a doll when she picks him up.
    • The giant hand used for the scenes where Nancy is supposed to be interacting with people has unnaturally floppy fingers at times and an unusually rough texture.
    • The repeated reuse of the clip of Nancy walking results in a continuity error at the end when she's supposed to be holding Harry, since her hands are clearly empty.
    • Given that the giant alien is dressed like a medieval soldier, it's clearly footage from a completely different movie.
  • The Woobie: The way Nancy is treated before she grows definitely sets her up for Woobie status.
