Arkin Lysets Vokter

Go To

  • Arc Fatigue: The story is seemingly set to be set in 3 parts, but the middle part starts in vol. 2 and keeps going in circles and doesn't really go anywhere for the next 3 and much of it could have been resolved in the next one or even the very first as it's perfect for a trilogy, but instead drawn out with a lot of talk about nothing. At least the art is beautiful?
  • Awesome Art: Animals and monsters look stunning and the colors delightfully dark and moody.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: That Arkin was the ill one and supposed to die was kind of obvious from the start, with his mother looking pretty healthy in flashbacks and him looking like a Littlest Cancer Patient.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The powers of the book kinda feels like some creators have come to rely on AI while generative AI was in its infancy when the first book came out. It's kinda tragic, but you can't help but to laugh.
  • Spiritual Successor: Feels similar to Astrid Lindgren's Mio My Son. A neglected orphan lives with an abusive aunt, goes to another world where everyone has been awaiting him, trusts him and believes in his abilities even though he doesn't himself. The rest of the story is really different though.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Melion, going But Now I Must Go when Arkin is at his lowest point just to prove that he can overcome it when all the boy needs is a huge hug and be told it's not his fault his mother chose to do what she did. Especially as it's implied he knew, but didn't want to tell him as he believed the boy couldn't take it, but left when he said he could.
