- Cliché Storm: This film touches heavily upon familiar sci-fi concepts, rounded out by an Evil Vizier. The plucky leader of La Résistance, tragic friendship between two members of a warring alien race and array of giant mechas are all engaging as individual parts of the conflict, but can definitely feel like surface-level products of their genre.
- Complete Monster: Baramanda, the vizier of Empress Cathebel, seeks the titular Ark to gain immortality, intending to use the machine for his own selfish purposes. Introduced torturing arrested Cevean prisoners and having them executed via life-draining parasitic worms, draining them into lifeless husks with a massive dose of Body Horror, Baramanda seeks the descendant of the Cevean High Priestess Amiel, necessary for his immortality. Learning Amarinth's true heritage as Amiel's daughter, Baramanda have Amarinth's adoptive father Jallak sentenced to public execution to force her out of hiding, before ordering Jallak's death anyway when Amarinth surrenders. Baramanda had his loyal chief scientist, Dr. Anders, shot when she called him a monster after learning he intends to allow Alcyeon's destruction while he becomes immortal, forces Anders's assistant Higgins to activate the Ark for him at gunpoint, and subjects Amarinth to having her blood forcefully extracted in order to gain her DNA necessary for the Ark's activation, a process which causes Amarinth much pain and torture. Taking over the Ark and going on a city-wide rampage, killing millions in the process, Baramanda is more than willing to condemn both the Storrian and Cevean races to their extinction if it means he can live forever.
