• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: When Mary Beth screams and runs out of her house, the camera flips upside down for no discernible reason.
• Designated Villain: Betty Ann is among those who get pranked at the end too. While Eric, Kiki and Frank definitely had it coming, Betty Ann defends Gary's stories at the meeting and is especially into the story. She's also a Nice Girl in every other episode. Of course, given her Nightmare Fetishist personality, she probably found the gag funny when she found out.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Sardo gets a comical cowardly moment where he says "take the children!" and dives under the table to save himself. Since he shows up in Gary's other stories, and Mary Beth and Weeds do not, it's not hard to imagine that he found a way to escape and left them to be trapped forever.
• It Was His Sled: This episode is famous for its Downer Ending, where the protagonists fail to prevent the invasion and end up trapped in a crystal ball forever.
• One-Scene Wonder:
  • The Woman in Black is only in one scene towards the end (un-masked anyway) but boy is she memorable as the first AYOTD villain to win outright!
  • Then there's the girl who Weeds inadvertently casts a spell on to make her voice go high-pitched.
  "I sound like a chipmunk!"
