Archie Bunkers Place S 3 E 20 Love Is Hell

  • Broken Aesop: Surprisingly for a Norman Lear-produced show that has been frank about what rape and attempted sexual assault is, the focus is more on Stephanie – relying on circumstantial evidence – being jealous of Billie for being more attractive to Eric. Had the script been written by anyone else ... sure, Stephanie might have been upset about what she thinks happened (Billie coming on to Eric and their kiss being mutual), but Billie would have corrected Stephanie and told her the truth about what happened – he tried to make a pass at her and that it was about power and not satisfying a sexual urge. Only when she sees that Eric left flowers at the Bunkers' doorstep in an attempt to "apologize" for his earlier actions – he rings the doorbell, leaves the flowers and runs, without the courage to do it in person – does she realize the truth.
