- Older Than They Think:
- This series isn't the first Aquaman run to go for a High Fantasy route, as the first half of Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis, by Kurt Busiek, had Arthur Joseph Curry endowed with strange powers and exploring underwater realms and their people.
- The Blue/Clear isn't a Jeremy Adams creation. It first appeared in 1995 in Mark Millar's Swamp Thing. Peter David's run on Aquaman (1994) already cemented a link between Orin and the Clear, and planned to further explore it before it became an Aborted Arc.
- Spiritual Successor: The run's connection with the Blue, the metaphysical realm connecting all water and waterlife, reads like a follow up of Rick Veitch's run on Aquaman (2003), where Orin got a solid water hand courtesy of the Lady in the Lake that was tied with the Secret Sea, a manifestation of the collective unconsciousness, and the Fountainhead, the metaphysical place where all rivers spring from.
- Unexpected Character: Issue 6 has a last-page reveal of Zan of the Wonder Twins, whose last non-cameo appearance was in 2019.
