  • Epic Riff: "Sweet Child o' Mine". "Welcome to the Jungle" as well.
    • The riff for "Sweet Child o' Mine" is an interesting example, in that it started off as just Slash messing around. Axl had happened to hear it and write lyrics to it. The fans love of the song made it epic when the band thought it was just going to be album filler.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Axl's divorce from the woman who inspired "Sweet Child o' Mine" which stemmed from him beating her.
  • Sacred Cow: Not only is this album universally considered Guns N' Roses' best album, but also one of the greatest debut albums, one of the greatest hard rock albums and one of the greatest albums of all time in general, and even those who dislike or are not fans of Guns N' Roses or hard rock have admitted to liking this album, to the point where detractors refer to it as the only good album the band has ever done.
  • Song Association: "Paradise City" has become affiliated to Burnout Paradise. The song is used as the theme to that game, which takes place in a fictional city called Paradise City.
  • Vindicated by History: At the time of its release, many critics complained that the album's massive success with consumers was fostered by the taboo of "Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll" during The '80s, when much of the cultural atmosphere in the US became informed by the Reagan-Bush Administration, the AIDS crisis, and the popularity of MTV. Retrospectively, however, Appetite for Destruction was seen in a much more positive light, being named as one of the greatest albums of all time.
