- Love to Hate: It's impossible not to enjoy Kathy Bates's turn as Miss Hannigan, vile as the character is. Bates is clearly having the time of her life hamming it up, and a lot of her moments of snarkiness are hilarious and perfectly-timed.
- Moral Event Horizon: Unlike in the 1982 version, Miss Hannigan is explicitly on board with Annie being killed. Before they head over to Warbucks' mansion, she asks what will happen to Annie afterwards. Rooster replies that he'll "make her disappear" as he draws a knife across his neck. Miss Hannigan and Lily's only response is to join him in a reprise of "Easy Street". The only reason Miss Hannigan crosses the line and Lily doesn't is because Lily is way too stupid to truly comprehend what Rooster is trying to convey.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- A pre-Wicked Kristin Chenoweth as Lily St. Regis.
- A pre-Lizzie McGuire Lalaine appears as Kate, the orphan with glasses.
- A pre-Modern Family Sarah Hyland plays Molly, the youngest orphan.
