- Older Than They Think: This isn’t the first time an Anne of Green Gables adaptation was set in the Northeastern United States: the year before saw the release of Anne of Manhattan by Brina Starler, a retelling of the third book in the series set in New York, with Avonlea being located in Long Island. Before that, the very first 1919 silent film adaptation was set in Massachusetts in the New England region, which angered L.M. Montgomery, as she felt that her story shouldn't take place in the United States.
