Anna's Quest

Go To

  • Ending Fatigue: Anna frees Jannike and stops Winfriede's evil plan. Sounds like the game is over, right? Well, no. For some reason, right at the end of the game we get another whole chapter that plays out as an extended flashback explaining Winfriede's backstory, after which, then the credits immediately roll. While it's interesting and makes you rethink Winfiede's character, one can't help but notice that the game stops the story in its tracks to tack on another half an hour (give or take) right at the very end.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Late in the game, it's revealed that Winfriede was the one to bring Joringel and Jorinde together. She's also the one who winds up kidnapping and killing them years later.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: While the flashback to Winfiede's childhood did show she genuinely got really screwed over for something she didn't actually do, when you look at the details, she still more less brought it on herself. Specifically, her mother warned her over and over again to take her studies seriously (and had been doing so for weeks) less she be struck by a terrible fate from the Wyrd. Had she actually listened, every bad thing that happened could have been prevented. Also, while nowhere near the monster she became, Winfiede was already showing signs of her It's All About Me Never My Fault traits as she was more concerned with using Hans' invention to beat Jannike in their studies then using it to show people magic users aren't dangerous like Hans wants. Jannike on the other hand didn't want to turn their studies into a competition, said their mother is too hard on Winnie, and even tried to help her when Winnie was accused of murdering Hans, only for her to reject Jannike every step of the way. Had Winfiede's own laziness and resentment not got in the way, things could have been very different between her and her family. Whether this overrides the tragedy of Winfiede's fate is up to the individual player to decided.
