- Alternative Character Interpretation:
- The Stick Gang start playing a rock song while Green is being swarmed by Silverfish:
- Was it because they genuinely didn't give a crap about Green and just found the Silverfish's concert better?
- Was it because they've been through much worse and knew Green would be OK, so their priority was salvaging the concert and making it seem like this was all part of it? This is heavily implied to be Green's intent, as he goes out of his way to start a guitar solo during Rush E while in combat with the Silverfish.
- Was their apparent indifference towards Green's suffering actually a desperate attempt from them to retain a sense of normalcy, meaning they made some bad decisions in the heat of the moment?
- Did they do it to distract the Silverfish from Green? After all, their rock concert did stop the bugs from swarming Green and gave him a chance to fight back.
- The Silverfish: A Karmic Trickster tormenting Green as revenge for humiliating him, or an egocentric ass who ruined a guy's elaborate concert for refusing to let him join it when it had already begun?
- The Stick Gang start playing a rock song while Green is being swarmed by Silverfish:
- Base-Breaking Character: The Silverfish has gathered some of the most divisive opinions on a singular character in the whole Beckerverse fandom. Fans believe him to be an entertaining Monster of the Week who carried one of the series' best episodes with great songs, comedy and battle, with Green's treatment being just some hilarious slapstick. Haters call him a massive Designated Hero who publicly humiliated, assaulted and nearly killed Green over not letting him join the concert, despite the fact it already begun and the Silverfish couldn't just barge in and disrupt a performance, not to mention him making the Stick Gang grab a Jerkass Ball and join him instead of defending Green, making the episode hard to watch even with the good music. There is also the middle side which enjoys the episode while admitting the Silverfish sucked.
- Broken Base: "Note Block Concert" quickly proved to be the most controversial episode in the franchise. Its fans consider it to be a funny showcase of harmless slapstick that's filled with some of the series' greatest music, an entertaining dance battle-turned-sword battle to the beat of the intense "Rush E", a fun one-off antagonist, and cameos from some beloved Ensemble Dark Horses. Its critics consider it to be an unsympathetic and unfunny spiteful episode that wrongly portrays Green as a Jerkass in need of punishment with the Silverfish being an unsympathetic asshole who got away with it all, all while the Stick Gang grabs the Jerkass Ball and sides against Green, doing nothing as he's flooded with silverfish. Even the ones who do enjoy Green's Butt-Monkey tendencies see this one as over-the-top, with him not doing anything bad enough to deserve being publicly humiliated, physically assaulted and almost killed in front of hundreds of mobs who enjoy his suffering, all while his friends side against him. Because of this, it's the one episode that has a large and active hatedom, and after its release many people thought that Green should cut ties with the Stick Gang, making fanfics where he does exactly that.
- Designated Hero: Despite him technically being the antagonist of the episode, you are clearly supposed to side with the Silverfish in "Note Block Concert", with his antics being played for comedy and karma towards Green for being selfish. This is despite the fact the Silverfish had interrupted Green's concert after it already begun, making Green completely justified in not wanting it to botch it, publicly humiliated and nearly killed him in front of an audience of hundreds; worse, it was apparently so amazing that it got the Stick Gang to ditch Green's plans in favor of tagging along to the Silverfish's antics, and it crushing Green under a giant silverfish statue while getting all the applause and love of the crowd was meant to be seen as a good ending. The episode tries so hard to make you side with the Silverfish it's essentially wordless Character Shilling, but all it did was make a large portion of the fanbase hate the episode for needlessly torturing Green, turning the Stick Gang into unsympathetic assholes and letting the Silverfish get away scott-free.
- Fandom-Specific Plot: Following the massive humiliation he suffered this episode, which was the peak of his Butt-Monkey tendencies, Green turning evil has become a popular fanfic idea, snapping after believing his friends don't care about his suffering. At the bare minimum, expect fics where the concert leaves a massive dent in his relationship with the Stick Gang, and Green temporarily - or permanently - gets away from them (most often moving into Purple and King's place, which may or may not involve shipping him with the former).
- Informed Wrongness: Green is seen by the narrative as deserving of his punishment, because he selfishly refused to let the Silverfish join it, kicked it away as it was leaving, and was pissed at his friends for enjoying themselves instead of following his script for classical music, even after it was shown the audience preferred the silverfish's music. However, the Silverfish asked to join the concert after it had already begun, meaning there was no spot for it, it would not take "no" for an answer until several times later, was leaving at a snail's pace seemingly to intentionally anger Green, and Green is more than justified at being angry at his friends for siding with the guy that's humiliating him. Not to mention, it probably took a lot of time for Green to set up the whole concert, hire dozens of villagers and invite hundreds of mobs, both strangers and personal friends, just for it to all be ruined as he's made a fool in front of them all. Even if you could argue he deserved some punishment for being rude to the Silverfish, the punishment can be easily seen as far too extreme.
- Karmic Overkill: This episode is more or less the absolute peak of Green's suffering, which left a lot of fans feeling like this due to thinking that being humiliated in front of hundreds and having your concert ruined while your friends do nothing to help is just too much, especially since Green isn't even a bad person and at worst just arrogant.
- Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: Detractors of the Silverfish will dislike him for publicly making a fool out of Green for a minor reason while getting away with it due to being presented as "the good guy" in the situation.
- Magnificent Bastard: The Silverfish is a clever insect that, after being denied a chance to join the titular concert, decided to hijack it for himself. Challenging the arrogant Green, the Silverfish easily makes a fool out of him, avoiding all his attacks and giving the audience genuine entertainment, his skills even making the Stick Gang tag along to his antics. Stealing the Note Block Staff, the little bug then summons an army to hijack the orchestra for himself, before accepting Green's offer for a 1v1 battle, proving himself to be a skilled dancer, fighter and musician that recovers anytime Green has the upper hand. Ending the episode on a humiliated Green and a round of applause from the audience, the Silverfish is one of the few villains to come out completely victorious.
- Mis-blamed: Alan Becker received some shade from the people who didn't enjoy this episode, despite admitting he did basically nothing besides approving the idea, with the whole story and action being directed by team member Skim.
- Misaimed Fandom: A lot of fans feel like this is a pointless "Torturing Green" episode for the sake of tormenting him, when this was meant to be giving him karma for his arrogant behavior, especially with how he kicked the Silverfish when it was already leaving (Though this was after it had forced itself onto the piano despite being turned down, and it was leaving at a snail's pace).
- Ron the Death Eater: Those who really hate the Silverfish often make it even worse than he already is in canon, taking away the fact he's supposed to be a Karmic Trickster to make him a full-on jackass who humiliated Green out of his own arrogance.
- Unintentionally Sympathetic: Green can easily turn into this with all his Butt-Monkey suffering, even if the audience is supposed to find it funny, to the point many fans came up with the concept of a Green Villain Arc.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The Silverfish, while being a genius, sneaky trickster who runs loops around Green, is still disliked by some fans due to humiliating Green for little to no reason.
