Animal Armageddon

Go To

  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • In the final episode, an asteroid strike nearly wipes out mankind.
    • Several of the badass creatures, not to mention the extinctions that wipe them out.
  • Special Effects Failure: One of the most common complaints people have against the series. The animal restorations are ugly as sin, and the graphics in general look as if they had been taken from a late 1990s-era video game. The animals themselves are just as creepy. Walking with Dinosaurs this ain't.
  • Tear Jerker: Several of the creature's sad fates in the face of extinction definitely qualify.
    • One episode set after the asteroid impact that ended the Mesozoic Era has one of the last two Tyrannosaurus rexes kill and eat the other, his brother, then it cuts to him some days later, trying desperately to stay on his feet, knowing if he falls, he's never getting up again. Anybody else flash back to the horse from The Neverending Story?
    • The end of the Permian episode somberly pauses to describe the extinction of the Dicynodonts and the Gorgonopsians. A dead Dicynodont is shown lying in the desert, while the narrator says "this is their only legacy". Then cut to a dying Gorgonopsian collapsing in the desert, while the narrator describes the last members of the species Dying Alone.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Some feel that the final episode should have instead been about the current Anthropocene Extinction rather then making up a what if scenario.
