- Angst Aversion: Given it's bleak premise of a space ship getting lost in space and utter Downer Ending, this is not a movie most people can watch more than once, let alone enjoy.
- Fandom Rivalry: A small one with High Life, another 2018 slowburn sci-fi film about an intergalactic cruiser on a deadly voyage through space. While both films have received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike (with admittedly higher praise from critics compared to audiences for both films), a common criticism of both films are their incredibly bleak tones and slow, arthouse-like presentations that some viewers considered "dull." The most common point of contention amongst each movie's fanbases is which movie had the more interesting execution and story.
- Nightmare Fuel: The main premise is that a starship gets lost in space on its way to its destination and is unable to correct its course. Eventually, everyone aboard the ship dies once its systems run out of power.
- Tear Jerker: Perhaps the saddest science fiction story ever set in space. It's a slow and painful worst-case scenario for a colony flight desperately needed by the human race that falls apart thanks to poor planning, an incompetent captain, and unfortunate circumstances. Every hope that things get better turns out to be a big farce and everyone ultimately dies long before they ever reach a planet that can viably suit their needs.
