  • Harsher in Hindsight: In his review of Surf's Up, he states that Sony Pictures Animation should look back at it and realize why they've fallen so hard. While saying this, he says that the movie doesn't really need a sequel. Shortly after his review, Sony actually announced a sequel to Surf's Up titled "Surf's Up 2: WaveMania", which was deemed inferior to the original film.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • In his Epic Mickey Files episode on Mr. Smee, AniMat describes Smee as the Disney version of Smithers. Disney would acquire Fox's media assets a few years later, including The Simpsons, effectively making Smithers the Disney version of Smithers.
    • Mat laughing at the "Hmmm, I don't know. I think we should be enemies" line during his AniMat Watches of ''Lion and the King." Mat would later reveal Mr. Coat said a similar statement during their falling-out (before they reconciled a few years later).
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • His Sanity Slippage in the Bratz review, all done in a homage to the Animated Adaptation of The Tell-Tale Heart.
    • A lot of moments from the animated segments of Animation Lookback: Walt Disney Animation Studios+.
      • Jeffrey Katzenberg acting like a maniac when he is shown messing with The Black Cauldron and when Michael Eisner confronts him, Jeffrey has this to say...
Katzenberg: You know what they say, 'One must become the enemy!'
    • After that, he pulls out his face and reveals a horrific, shrieking skull that grows horns like The Horned King.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy:
    • Nowadays, he's known his extreme hatred towards Sony Pictures Animation and lashing out at people who liked their movies. Most of his infamous behavior occurred in his reviews of Hotel Transylvania 2 where he said that the film’s director Genndy Tartakovsky should read "The Animator's Survival Kit" due to his dislike of the film series’ art and animation style, and The Emoji Movie, where he goes as far as saying that SPA should shut down. He would later admit that he regrets saying those things, but the damage is already done, as he is remembered as the reviewer who thinks one of the most acclaimed minds in animation with many beloved creations under his belt needs to study the craft more, and who wants to shut down SPA because they made movies he didn't like. A sentiment that is very much looked down upon now, as SPA later became a very respected company thanks to their biggest hits Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, along with The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
    • Animat would later get himself into more controversy, with many people calling him out for often filling his reviews with random and arbitrary rants about his hatred for misogynists and conservatives (perhaps best exemplified by him calling SPA "The Donald Trump of Animation" in the aforementioned rant against them), sometimes even taking these rants too far and starting fights with people online over them. Given how his reputation has already been damaged from his previous scandal with SPA, this is probably the only other thing he'll mostly be remembered for.
  • Win Back the Crowd: His reviews of Sony films from Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation onward seem to be trying to do this by not letting his feelings about the company affect them as much. This is noticeable in his Top 10 Worst Animated Films of the Decade, where he included both Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and The Emoji Movie on the list, but only talked about them as films and didn't come across as condescending to its supporters, even acknowledging that some people did legitimately like the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs without being frustrated at that fact. His harsh stance on Sony Pictures Animation has also lessened, mainly thanks to his admiration for their later movies, including The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
