- Ass Pull: The twist at the end that the rock creatures have destroyed most of humanity, with Thelma as the only survivor, is barely foreshadowed and opens up a ton of Plot Holes with regards to Thelma's Psychic Powers.
- Awesome Music: For all its faults, the film does at least have a nice score courtesy of brothers Guido and Maurizio de Angelis (credited under their Nom De Plume "Oliver Onions").
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The idea of parasitic alien invaders disguising themselves as rocks would later be revisited in Apollo 18.
- Nausea Fuel: Some of the Gorn is a bit too convincing for its own good, particularly in the scene where the young girl is found on the beach with her face torn off and where Phil's head and part of his spine detach from his body as he is hung upside down.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Cliff is played by a young Michele Soavi, who would later rise to fame as a director of horror films including StageFright -Aquarius-, The Church, and Cemetery Man.
- Doctor Who fans may recognize Thelma as the titular Chimeron queen in "Delta and the Bannermen".
- Special Effect Failure: When the rock creature's larval form erupts from Jill's face, what emerges is a very fake-looking puppet. Additionally, the face itself is very obviously made out of rubber. The filmmakers try to compensate by shooting the scene in the dark, but are only partially successful in this regard.
