- Adaptation Displacement: Like most manga that are adapted into anime, most know it as an anime then a manga.
- Adorkable: Satoko has this, as the most pure of the three main characters, even if it's not by much. Extends to this behind the scenes video where her seyiuu is cosplaying as her while visiting the production of the series at Studio Shaft that matches the character so well.

- Alternative Character Interpretation:
- Does Konoha really care about Satoko as a person? Several chapters/episodes show does she is warming up to treating her as a genuine friend she's glad to have helping her out and/or showing empathy towards her, but others show she has no emotion, most notably in chapter/episode featuring Roboko, in which she can't tell the difference nor realize there is a difference between the two.
- When it was revealed that Yukie was the one who used her powers to affect Satoko’s perception and cause her to be indifferent towards others, was that also part of the reason why Satoko was considered a dropout. Did the village use Yukie’s powers to prevent Satoko from reaching her full potential because they feared how dangerous she could be due to her leaf powers? Did they want her to be poor at her ninja training and force her to do menial labor, so they could keep an eye on her closely? It had occasionally been shown Satoko is capable of becoming a decent ninja when she is more confident and had more time to properly train, such as her brief time as Satodo. Additionally, it could explain why she wasn’t killed when she was previously roped into escaping because while her power was dangerous, it was useful.
- Awesome Art: As per the norm with the work of Studio Shaft, the show has some stellar art direction and animation. The fifth episode takes things to another level and includes old-schooled animation, realistic food, and live action papercuts one after another.
- Anti-Climax: Many encounters with pursuing assassins amount up to a few minutes before Konoha cuts them down. Intentional in-universe but whether or not more was expected is up to the viewer.
- Base-Breaking Character: Konoha, in part to how she's written. Some admire how cold she is, while others hate her treatment of Satoko or the way she has little care for a lot of things.
- Creepy Cute: Konoha for how cold-hearted she is, yet heartwarming in the few bits of happiness she shows. Marin can also count given her shark teeth.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: The ninjas who appear and almost always die as soon as they are introduced. Given their designs and personalities, many people have expressed interest that they wished they were on-screen more or lasted longer.
- Friendly Fandoms:
- Has been developing one with Kill Me Baby, due to their similar premises and character dynamics. The author, Kaduho, even did a end card for the fourth episode of the anime.
- A minor one with WarioWare in part to how it's also a series featuring major ninja characters.
- Growing the Beard: As the series goes along, not only does the art become more detailed and dynamic, but the writing and reveals make it a lot more interesting then what appeared on the surface.
- Jerkass Woobie: Midori is among the group of assassins trying to kill Satoko and Konoha. That said, she is a surprisingly nice woman who has close friends and a dream house which she painstakingly works to get. Following the start of the series, Midori loses all of her friends, then dies as well after she tried to avenge them. After that, her dream home gets taken by her killers who then accidentally kill her beloved plant.
- Just Here for Godzilla: Many only watched it because it was Studio Shaft production, the first to be based on a manga in almost a decade.
- LGBT Fanbase: Given the Yuri elements and undertones of the series, it's no surprise it has one.
- Moe: Given the art style, naturally, everyone looks adorable. Satoko is especially this, being so innocent, earnest, and clumsy.
- Memetic Mutation: People comparing Marin's usage of mechanical tentacles to that of Doc. Ock.
- No Such Thing as Bad Publicity: The general oddity and confusion about what the series is actually about ended up gaining more traction then expected, especially when clips of the ninjas dying or the more dark comedy started to surface online.
- Signature Scene: Michiru's entrance in the first episode, namely due to it's smooth animation and displaying the tone of the series perfectly in one scene.
- Spiritual Successor: Can be seen as this to Pani Poni Dash!, one of the earlier Studio Shaft anime that was also a Zany Cartoon. The fact it's anime released on the 20th anniversary of the release of Pani Poni Dash makes it all the more fitting.
- Viewer Gender Confusion: Despite the way she dresses compared to the other girls, Kuro is female.
- The Woobie:
- Satoko can be this, given how worried or anxious she can be when a ninja tries to kill her or when Konoha is mad with her.
- Poor Yoshida is a bright, peppy young girl who remains kind and cheerful even when her father is killed and her best friend disappears. She's also the only one in Koga's class who treats her as a friend — unaware that Koga assassinated them both in cold blood.
