  • Informed Wrongness: When Eddie questions Sophie’s judgment over going on a college tour with her band, he’s portrayed as a Jerkass who doesn’t think she’s a talented musician. When in reality he was just making sure Sophie was being realistic about what it takes to succeed in the music industry. She also didn’t tell anybody about her plans, and Eddie found out via her band mate.
  • Squick: In "Christmas Wishlist," Gary was so elated that Maggie is going to her chemo treatments that he kisses her right after she throws up on him
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Many fans hate Eddie and especially Delilah, who are portrayed by the script as two tragic characters who made a mistake in cheating on their respective companions and have been paying for it ever since. For these fans, Eddie and Delilah are two selfish hypocrites whose actions caused enormous suffering for Katherine, who is precisely the character with the fewest connections with the rest of the group. The fact that Eddie would constantly talk about his son to Delilah in front of Katherine and Delilah refused to let Katherine tell their children the truth, to the point of accusing her of not being a good person, only made the situation worse. This is compounded in Season 3 when Delilah decided to spend time in France with her father while the others had to deal with Danny's difficulty coming out and Sophie being sexually assaulted.
    • Sophie in "Little White Lies." What she endured will take along time for her fully recover from, and Gary is lucky that his attacking Peter didn't lead to more severe consequences. But at this point, her carrying on a six-month-long grudge against him has gotten tiresome, especially since she was much more forgiving towards Eddie. Even worse, once she discovered that Gary and Maggie were back together, she extended her grudge to MAGGIE who was there for her throughout the ordeal. The former not only had an affair with her mother but had a child with her and was willing to leave his own family to be with Delilah.
  • Why Would Anyone Take Her Back?: Towards the end of Season 2, Maggie tried to get back together with Gary. Gary had to call her out on the fact that (1) Maggie distanced herself from Gary during her cancer treatment, (2) Maggie focused her time with Eric who falsely claimed to have her late brother's heart, and (3) Maggie declared her love for Gary after he moved on and is in a committed relationship with Darcy.
