L-R: "The Deadly Demonic Warmonger" Obariyon, "The Prince of All Goblins" Kobald and "The Bled Island Butcher" Kodama

Obariyon (Chris Estrada), Kodama (Louie Rodriguez) and Kobald are a Professional Wrestling Tag Team/Power Trio best known for their work in CHIKARA as The Batiri. Obariyon debuted at CHIKARA Young Lions Cup VIII Night I, August 29, 2010, with a win over Dustin Rayz. Ophidian eliminated him from a six-way match later that night. Kodama debuted as Obariyon's partner in a four-way elimination tag match at Eye to Eye on September 18th in a loss to The Osirian Portal (the other two teams were Incoherence [Hallowicked and Frightmare] and The UnStable [Vin Gerard and STIGMA]). At the 2010 Season Finale Reality Is Relative, December 12, 2010, Sinn Bodhi debuted and revealed that UltraMantis Black had hired him to train Obariyon, Kodama and the then-unnamed Kobald to be his Dark Army, and that he wanted the Eye of Tyr as payment. This led to Mantis, Hallowicked and Frightmare forming The Spectral Envoy. The team name The Batiri officially debuted at the start of 2011. After Sinn left CHIKARA following Mantis giving him a bogus Eye of Tyr in a post-credits scene at the 2011 Season Finale iPPV High Noon on November 13th, The Batiri were without a proper leader. Delirious took over the role after Chikarasaurus Rex: How To Hatch A Dinosaur on June 2nd, 2012, later adding the rudo-turned Ophidian as "Field General." At the end of the return show, You Only Live Twice, May 25, 2014, Deucalion, the Big Bad of The Flood, the amalgamation of Heel groups out to destroy CHIKARA, destroyed Kobald with the Chokebreaker. At the start of 2015, Mantis drafted Obariyon, Kodama and Oleg The Usurper for his Challenge of the Immortals tournament team The Arcane Horde. After Mantis had to retire that September due to leg injuries, he brought Kobald, in the storyline, Back from the Dead, since Max Smashmaster, the captain of The Wrecking Crew wouldn't accept anything less than a 4-on-4 match for Key Decisions on November 7th. After Hallowicked and Frightmare used the Eye of Tyr on Mantis, causing him to be possessed by Nazmaldun, he hexed, among other, The Batiri. The main event of the second half of the 2016 Season Finale Supremacy on December 2nd was CHIKARA's Mightiest Heroesnote  defeating The heXed Mennote  in a Torneo Cibernetico. After the match, Ophidian, angry over Frightmare defeating his partner Amasis earlier in the night in a Mask vs. Mask match at Temple of Doom, stole the Eye of Tyr from around Mantis' neck and used it on him, saying "Be free." After the closing credits, there was a scene of Ophidian and ThunderFrog in a forest with the ThunderFrog bringing his Hammer of Peace down on the Eye as the screen went to black. While Obariyon and Kodama went back to "normal," Kobald was horribly messed up as a result, and begged Oleg to abandon his pledge not to hurt him. Obariyon and Kodama both left CHIKARA during 2017.

As for their in-ring achievements, Obariyon and Kodama are former 2x AIW Tag Team Champions and are the inaugural STAR Pro Tag Team Champions.

As usual, you can find the basics at The Other Wiki.

"Deadly Demonic Tropes":

  • Affectionate Parody: The store section of their website includes a T-shirt of Kobald that features the words "Fresh Prince of the Lair".
  • Always Identical Twins: They're actually not related, but they look so much alike especially with the facepaint that the commentators often get confused as to which one's wrestling.
    • Although they've left CHIKARA, they've continued to get less and less identical in appearance. Obariyon has cut his hair short and slimmed down, while Kodama has begun tanning darkly, grown a heavy beard and bulked up. They also use different color schemes.
  • Ask a Stupid Question...: From the FAQ on their website:
"How are you able to get online if you live in a cave?"
"We use a crystal ball for all our needs. It provides 9Gbps, satellite, cable TV, Netflix, and feature films before they are released ..."
  • Advertisement:
  • Ass Kicks You: Kobald's Finishing Move is a top-rope sitdown splash called the Demon's Toilet.
  • The Atoner: Directly invoked in his 12/3/15 blog. Unfortunately, this did not last.
  • Barbarian Longhair: Both of them, until Obariyon switched to a buzzcut sometime in late 2016.
  • Brainwashed: Hypnotized by Nazmaldun. Snapped out of it after Nazmaldun's banishment. Kobald was snapped out of it by Nazmaldun's banishment, though combined with him coming back wrong, it seemed to leave him with a serious case of Sanity Slippage until Oleg the Usurper "fixed" him.
  • Brought Down to Normal: In Obariyon's match against Merlok in November 2017 at Hour of Power 12, he came out without his facepaint and wasn't just beaten but apparently injured or killed with a single Emerald Fusion. Apparently the Batiri had some sort of demonic power fueling them and it abandoned Obariyon or something.
  • Circles of Hell: One of their Finishing Moves is called The Seventh Circle.
  • The Corrupter: Mid 2017, Obariyon was working on getting Ashley Vox to embrace her inner darkness, and it worked way too well, turning her into Oceanea.
  • Death Wail: Obariyon did one after Kobald was injured by Deucalion. In November 2017, Ashley Vox did one over him after Merlok hit him with an Emerald Fusion.
  • The Dragon: Obariyon to Sinn Bodhi in 2011.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: They were the druids who accompanied UltraMantis Black for his match against Hallowicked at Through Savage Progress Cuts the Jungle Line.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Switched from green to red after their brainwashing. Switched back post-brainwashing. After Kodama's departure Obariyon switched over to purple with gold markings.
  • Facial Markings: They both wore green facepaint with black lines (with a switch to red with black lines once Nazmaldun got hold of them, and a switch to purple with gold lines for Obariyon in 2017). Obariyon's markings are slightly straighter than Kodama's.
    • The easiest way to tell them apart is to look at the forehead and mouth. Obariyon's facepaint is more elaborate around his mouth, and Kodama's is more elaborate on his forehead.
  • Fanboy: Kobald became one for Oleg the Usurper, to Oleg's detriment.
  • The Heart: Kobald was pro-Chikara and he was able to convince Obariyon and Kodama to side with Chikara as well.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Initially they were neutral in the Flood vs Chikara feud, but Kobald convinced them to stand up for Chikara. Then Deucalion injured Kobald, and the Batiri decided to take the feud very personally and switched to Chikara's side.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: They aren't related, but look very much alike with facepaint. However, their paint designs are visibly different, Kodama has an extra tattoo across his collarbone, and in late 2015 Obariyon got a shorter haircut. Kodama having grown a Badass Beard since leaving CHIKARA helps too, as seen here, helps too.
  • Killed Off for Real: By Deucalion at You Only Live Twice. Outside kayfabe he's suffering from a hip injury that has a significant chance of permanently ending his career.
    • Back from the Dead: Resurrected by UltraMantis Black to replace him as part of the Arcane Horde. However, it was implied that he was craving brains as a side effect of the ritual.
  • Odd Friendship: After Kodama's departure Obariyon began hanging out with Team Sea Stars of all people.
  • One-Hit Kill: Obariyon's Flying DDT is one of the most feared finishers in Chikara. It's so feared it doesn't even need a gimmick name.
  • Only in It for the Money: The store section of their website featured the slogan "Ending the world ain't cheap."
  • Our Demons Are Different: They wear green and black facepaint and team with a masked goblin.
  • Our Goblins Are Different: This particular one is a sewer-dwelling growler.
  • Power Stable:
    • The Dark Army
    • The Arcane Horde
    • The heXed Men
  • Punny Names: After leaving CHIKARA and dropping the gimmick, Estrada and Rodriguez wrestled for a time as Chris Peaks and Louie Valle.
  • Put on a Bus: Kodama, after being attacked by Hallowicked and Frightmare.
    • The real reason is because he was fired after cursing in the ring after getting stiffed.
    • Obariyon followed in 2017 after being brutalized by Merlok.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Switched to red and black facepaint and gear after being hexed.
  • Red Baron: Kodama is "The Bled Island Butcher", Obariyon is "The Deadly Demonic Warmonger"
    • Hallowicked collectively dubbed them "the Twin Scythes".
    • Kobald is "The Prince of All Goblins." Hallowicked called him "The Poison-Tipped Bolt."
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Obariyon is Red, Kodama is Blue. They both work violent wrestling styles, but Obariyon seems on the edge of flipping out most of the time, and Kodama tends to switch between being eerily calm and exploding.
  • Shout-Out: Kodama's mannerisms and his calm-to-explosive-back-to-calm wrestling style are obviously inspired by The Great Muta, although his use of them falls short of being an expy.
  • Slovenia: They are billed from Bled Island, the only natural island there.
  • Split Personality: Kobald seemed to have one in some of his promos. He'd say something nice in a high pitched voice, follow it up with something mean in a snarly voice, then switch back to high pitched for nice, snarly for mean... Came to a head in 2017 when he began to refer to himself as "we" while pleading for Oleg the Usurper to "fix" him.
  • Suddenly Voiced: After Deucalion injured Kobald, Obariyon and Kodama both spoke in English to threaten The Flood.
  • Today, X. Tomorrow, the World!: At Deep Freeze, October 6, 2012, Kobald cut a promo where he said that he was going to destroy Frightmare, then UltraMantis, then the world.

How well does it match the trope?
