New Year's Revolution was a professional wrestling event produced by WWE which was held from 2005 to 2007. The event was created in 2005 and its name was a play on the Western tradition of New Year's resolutions, being held in early January each year the event was produced. To coincide with WWE's brand extension, New Year's Revolution was an exclusive to the Raw brand. In 2008, New Year's Revolution was removed from the schedule when the company reduced the number of PPVs per year after the discontinuation of brand-exclusive PPVs following WrestleMania 23 in April 2007.
In January 2020, WWE revived the event's name for a series of WWE Live shows for Raw and SmackDown titled the New Year's Revolution Tour; this tour was not held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
This pay-per-view contains examples of:
- The Bad Guy Wins:
- 2005: Triple H (with Ric Flair) defeated Randy Orton, Batista, Chris Jericho, Edge and Chris Benoit in the Elimination Chamber match to win the World Heavyweight Championship. (Shawn Michaels was the special guest referee). Trish Stratus defeated Lita to regain the WWE Women's Championship. Muhammad Hassan (with Daivari) defeated Jerry Lawler (with Jim Ross).
- 2006: Edge defeated John Cena to win the WWE Title after cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. Triple H defeated Big Show. Shelton Benjamin (with Momma Benjamin) defeated Viscera.
- 2007: Vladimir Kozlov defeated Eugene in a dark match. Kenny Dykstra defeated Ric Flair. Then-WWE World Tag Team Champions Rated RKO defeated DX via disqualification. Chris Masters defeated Carlito (with Torrie Wilson).
- Defeating the Undefeatable: In the 2007 event, John Cena defeated Umaga who was undefeated since his debut in April 2006.
- Deliberately Monochrome: Batista in the 2005 poster, with the golden dragon logo in the background.
- Disqualification-Induced Victory:
- In 2006, Edge attacked Ric Flair with his Money in the Bank briefcase, thus being disqualified and losing the match to him.
- In the 2007 event, Rated RKO defeated DX after Shawn Michaels hits the referee and he and Triple H proceed to hit Rated RKO with steel chairs. This finish was done because Triple H legitimately injured his right leg after performing a spinebuster on Randy Orton.
- Game-Breaking Injury:
- Hidden Eyes: John Cena in the 2006 poster, via his baseball cap.
- History Repeats: Carlito and Chris Masters faced off in this event twice (2006 and 2007). The first was in the Elimination Chamber which involved then-WWE Champion John Cena, Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, and Kane, and the second was in a one-on-one match.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: In the 2007 event, DX gives one to Rated RKO after the match. They attack them with steel chairs busting them open, then Triple H gave Edge a Pedigree on the announce table, and Shawn Michaels did the diving elbow drop on Randy Orton through the Spanish Announcers' Table.
- Wham Line: New Year's Revolution 2006. John Cena survives the Elimination Chamber, but...Vince McMahon: This individual is cashing in his Money in the Bank privilege that he earned at WrestleMania.
Joey Styles: No... - Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: The first and most iconic example comes from the 2006 event where Edge cashes in his Money in the Bank briefcase and defeat John Cena, who had just survived a brutal Elimination Chamber match, to win the WWE Title.
