    ThunderClan

The Woobie

  • Leafpool is the sweet, kind medicine cat of ThunderClan and has a pure heart. First, she finds out her beloved sister is going on a long journey, then she gets trapped trying to save her Clanmates from construction workers who are tearing down her beloved home. After her best friend's mentor dies Leafpool is forced to be strong for her. Then, when they arrive in their new home, Leafpool has a forbidden relationship due to a vow of celibacy with a WindClan warrior named Crowfeather and after a one-night stand with him, she finds out badgers are attacking her camp. Forced to leave the one cat she truly loved, Leafpool watches in sorrow as her mentor Cinderpelt, dies protecting the nursery. And, prior to the events of The Power of Three she gives birth to three kittens and cannot keep them, due to said celibacy vow (not only that, but StarClan told her to follow her heart then chided her for DOING EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAID). So, after her kits Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze find out from the cat they thought was their mother that they weren't hers, Hollyleaf begins to snap. After killing Ashfur, and Leafpool finding out of this, Hollyleaf confronts her mother, ends up finding they were halfClan and hers, Hollyleaf becomes the true Big Bad of the arc and tries to kill her mother with the deadly poisonous deathberries. After Leafpool admits she's suicidal and steps down from her position, Hollyleaf gets herself trapped in the tunnels below their territory only to die for real in the battle against the Dark Forest in the fourth series finale. In the fourth series, her remaining sons resent her for what she and Squirrelflight did, but eventually forgive her and she's finally able to be a medicine cat again. Suffice to say, this is a cat who has suffered far more than any cat should.
  • Willowpelt. Possibly, the only cat in ThunderClan who could beat Bluestar in losses. In fact, only her parents Adderfang and Swiftbreeze, and one of her sisters Leopardfoot died presumably naturally. Her brother Redtail was killed by her nephew Tigerclaw; her other sister Spottedleaf was killed by a ShadowClan intruder; her other brother Patchpelt, has been retired too early and then died during forest fire; and one of her first sons, Darkstripe, became a heinous traitor, being killed by his brother Graystripe. Then Willowpelt's mate Whitestorm was killed in the battle with BloodClan, and eventually she herself was killed by a badger. But even their descendants had been sharing the grim fate: Sootfur, ironically enough, was killed by a badger, too; then Rainwhisker died struck by plain tree branch; then Sorreltail - who had luckily survived a car accident earlier - has been deadly injured in the battle with the Dark Forest. It's her only son Graystripe who has successfully made it to the elders' den.
  • Brackenfur. First his sister is crippled and forced to be a medicine cat, then she dies while protecting his mate and his son dies of sickness shortly after. Then his daughter is killed by an adder hiding in the hollow. Then after The Last Hope, his mate Sorreltail dies of injuries off-screen. (It's shown on-screen in the ebook Dovewing's Silence). ''Then'' he loses another daughter to a flood. And then finally, his best friend Dustpelt dies near the end of Bramblestar's Storm. Thankfully, he's experiencing some happiness now that two of his remaining daughters had kits.
  • Sorreltail. She gets poisoned by Darkstripe, her own half-brother, just so she can't reveal that he was scheming with a cat from a rival Clan as a kit. Soon afterwards, her father Whitestorm dies in the battle against BloodClan and her mother Willowpelt dies when she's an apprentice. Her two brothers die, and her only son Molepaw dies when he's an apprentice. Her daughter Honeyfern is killed by an adder, and Sorreltail herself ends up dying to protect her new litter of kits.
  • Cinderpelt. Her tragic life isn't brought up much in the books, but if you look back at her life, especially with consideration to the fact that she was in love with Firestar (according to Word of God), she has one of the saddest lives in the series (which is really saying something, considering this series). First she gets hit by a car, crippling her and destroying all of her chances of becoming a warrior or being able to be with Firestar. She then becomes a medicine cat, and has had to go through life watching Firestar fall in love with Sandstorm, and mentoring one of their kits. Throughout all of this, she never does break down (with one arguable exception), and never gave into temptation (as medicine cat, she was one of Firestar's top advisors). This carries on to her reincarnation, Cinderheart who goes through similar battles (breaking her leg, having a crush she can't act on, etc). This time however, her life ends on a much happier note, as Lionblaze finally snaps her out of her Heroic BSoD and the two have kits at the end of Bramblestar's Storm, naming one after Lionblaze's sister, Hollyleaf, one after Dustpelt's mate Ferncloud, and one after Cinderheart's mother, Sorreltail. They would later end up having another litter in A Vision of Shadows.
  • Brightheart, who watched her friend get killed by a pack of wild dogs in front of her and nearly dies herself while getting her face mauled and permanently scarred. Bluestar gives her a horrible warrior name, "Lostface", that will only remind her everyday what happened. Luckily Firestar gives her a better name, and she puts up a brave front, but she constantly has to deal with new cats flinching at her face and is still haunted by her old name. For awhile it looked like her mate, Cloudtail, the only cat to believe in her and find her beautiful, fancied another she-cat more, and the only apprentice she's ever had was Jaypaw, a blind cat useless as a warrior who was resentful of having her as a mentor. Firestar then promises that she'll mentor another apprentice - from the next litter to be apprenticed, no less - which never ends up happening.
  • Hollyleaf. Poor, poor, Hollyleaf. She was (in)famous for her constant enforcing of the warrior code, and steadfastly believed that it was the root of all Clan cats' successes. But when she finds out she and her brothers are the kits of Leafpool and Crowfeather, and that, according to the code, she isn't even supposed to exist, with all of her beliefs turned to dust before her eyes, she goes batshit insane. Even though she had already killed Ashfur so he wouldn't reveal the secret of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw not being their parents, she decides that since the warrior code is dead because of her very existence, there's no point in hiding it anymore and reveals her and her littermates' heritage to everyone at the Gathering. Then, she runs away into the tunnels because she can't stand being the half-Clan kit of a medicine cat, and they collapse. She is believed to be dead until several books later, and she doesn't completely fit in even after she returns, having many warriors against her. Then she learns that she's not part of the prophecy and tragically dies a heroic death to save Ivypool from the Dark Forest warriors.
  • Bluestar. So much. Her father always ignored her, her mother was murdered in front of her, then her sister, Snowfur fell for her worst enemy, then she saw her sister die and Thistleclaw blamed her for it, she fell in love with a cat from another clan, and had to give up her kits to River Clan to be deputy so Thistleclaw doesn't become leader, one of her kits died on the way, and as leader Tigerclaw, who she trusted as a deputy, turned on her and tried to murder her. It's no wonder she went insane.
  • Firestar and his best friend Graystripe. These two are closer than most best friends to the point of being Heterosexual Life-Partners. Firestar was a former kittypet which many characters constantly remind him of that fact to the point of never living it down. He almost lost his daughters and his best friend in TNP, and only continues to go through hell. He gets so grief stricken he's just holding in the pain. Then he dies leaving his mate and daughters all alone. Graystripe took a mate from another Clan and when she dies giving birth to his kits, he's depressed to the point of leaving ThunderClan to be with his kits. He's also captured by Twolegs and his daughter, Feathertail dies. Eventually, both of these cats earn their happy ending.
  • The Three. That is to say, Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Dovewing, but the former two especially. Jayfeather is blind preventing him from being a warrior like he wanted and instead being a reluctant medicine cat, often sensing pity in his clanmates eyes whenever they look at him. He's also nearly killed by Breezepelt, his half-brother when trying to protect the pregnant Poppyfrost. Lionblaze is torn between loyalty to his Clan and his friendship with Heathertail and Ashfur teaches him incorrectly and never shows any kindness to him due to his foster parents. Both of them were lied to by the cat they thought was their mother and are nearly killed by Ashfur. And then Lionblaze finds out Cinderheart, his mate, is Cinderpelt and the world pretty much crumbles around him. As for Dovewing, she's forced to be loyal to her Clan when she has a forbidden relationship with Tigerheart and her sister is working with the Dark Forest and she just wants to be normal; she learns that her heightened senses bind her into a prophecy she wants no part of AS A CHILD, her own sister resents her for it, and the other two cats in the prophecy view her as little more than a shoddy replacement for their presumed deceased sister. All three of them lose their powers at the end of The Last Hope. Dovewing and Lionblaze seem to be suffering the most as their powers aided them while fighting.
  • Bramblestar especially has had to endure harsh criticism and grew up with his mentor, Firestar, who saw Tigerstar in Bramblestar occasionally, something beyond his control. His beloved sister, Tawnypelt, is in another Clan and his half-brother, Hawkfrost whom he wanted to be friends with, ends up betraying him and trying to kill him and his leader, forcing Bramblestar to kill him instead, for which he is clearly regretful, even though it needed to be done. Squirrelflight, his Love Interest and eventual mate, has thrown some pretty bad insults at him and also never told him about Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze not being his kits, causing him to break up with her. Then in The Last Hope, his surrogate daughter Hollyleaf dies, as does his leader and former mentor Firestar. Then in Bramblestar's Storm, he wants to get back together with Squirrelflight, but is struggling with following in Firestar's footsteps watching many of his Clanmates die before his eyes. It's also hinted that Squirrelflight is infertile. Then his sister's Clan is nearly wiped out twice. Finally, he meets a former kittypet, who lost her Twolegs, who seems like a new option, but then she leaves Bramblestar. Things turn up for him at the end as his surrogate son has kits, and gets back together with Squirrelflight who both find out that Squirrelflight can have kits. And then, seasons later, his body ends up being taken over by someone who definitely has sinister intentions, and he's now stuck as a ghost, unable to go to the afterlife and desperately running around the Clans with only one cat being able to see him. Bramblestar is later imprisoned in the Dark Forest by his impostor, now revealed to be Ashfur, his old rival for Squirrelflight's affections, who mind-controls him into attacking his beloved mate. Thank Star Clan (and Shadowsight, Rootspring and Bramblestar himself) that Bramblestar regains his body and returns to the living world with his mate. In A Starless Clan, it is revealed that despite his happy reunion with his mate, Bramblestar is still haunted and tormented by the memory of his experiences while out of his body; it's even implied he has developed PTSD as a result. Because his body was used to cause harm, many of his Clanmates are still scared of him, so once again Bramblestar has deal with other cats distrusting him for something beyond his control
  • The former Dark Forest recruits could also qualify, especially Ivypool and Blossomfall. For one, aside from Ivypool (who was a double agent for the Clans) they aren't allowed to join in the vigil or even help with the burial for their fallen clanmates even though they DID fight to help the Clans. Ivypool has been picked on all her life for not being her sister, had to kill Antpelt to prove her loyalty to the Dark Forest, and is nearly killed by her former mentor, Hawkfrost, when she betrays the Dark Forest to fight alongside the Clans. Then Birchfall is shunned by his own father just because he was foolish enough to join the Dark Forest and many other clanmates give them uneasy looks after that. When they hunt to redeem themselves in their clanmates eyes, they don't even get a thank-you. And Blossomfall was The Unfavorite like her brother having been shunned by her mother for not being Briarlight. Is it any wonder why she chose to be evil?
  • Sandstorm. While she started as a typical Alpha Bitch foil to Fireheart, she eventually grew to love him after he was saved and the two had kits. When she did have kits, one of the kits disappears with Brambleclaw on a journey to places unknown, while the other was kidnapped by humans. In the next few series, one of her daughters is nearly killed, her grandkit disappears presumably dead, and her beloved mate Firestar ends up dying for good in the final book of the fourth series. Eventually, she joins the elders with Graystripe.
  • Daisy. She was originally the side girl for her sister's mate, Smoky, but chose to join the clans when she learned that her sister's kits had been Killed Offscreen. Only a short while after joining, ThunderClan is attacked by badgers, which kill off a seasoned warrior and the medicine cat. Shortly after the badger attack, her son's tail is mutilated, causing her to take her children back to the safety of the barn. When she chooses to return to ThunderClan, she resigns herself to Cloudtail never liking her back, and after her first litter becomes apprentices she becomes mates with Spiderleg. Unfortunately, he soon falls out of love with her, and even says behind her back that he never meant to have kits with her in the first place. After the Battle against the Dark Forest, two of her children die of greencough, and an arc and a half later, two more of her kits die in the Battle with the Rebels, leaving her with only one surviving son and two grandchildren.
  • Squirrelflight. Just…Squirrelflight. She can never catch a break, and she doesn’t get nearly enough credit for it.
    • Firstly, there’s her rather stormy relationships with both of her love interests.
      • Ashfur treats her kindly at first, but after she rejects him as politely and gently as she can, he shows his true colors as a clingy, jealous incel who becomes hellbent on making her suffer just because she didn’t want a romantic relationship with him; first by conspiring to kill her father, then by attempting to kill her kits, and finally by planning to reveal her secret at the Gathering. Even in death, he is not satisfied, and he possesses her current mate, initiates a hostile takeover of the living Clans and a campaign to punish “codebreakers,” cuts off their connection to StarClan, manipulates Shadowsight into doing his dirty work, traps the ghosts of dead cats in the Dark Forest and enslaves their minds, and commits so many other atrocities all out of the delusional hope that Squirrelflight will take him back.
      • While he is nowhere near as bad as Ashfur and has many moments of being very kind to her, Bramblestar doesn't always treat Squirrelflight as well as he should. He doesn't always listen to her, often berates her too harshly, and even after she grows up and he makes her his deputy, he sometimes treats her as if she is a whiny, childish apprentice, even when she brings up valid points. Alas, StarClan prophesied that they would end up together, and so their will be done.
    • Secondly, there was everything she had to go through because of the prophecy with the Three. In order to peer pressure her into raising Leafpool’s kits as her own, StarClan told her that she was barren and would never have her own kits, then several books later they tell her that THEY WERE LYING TO HER in order to emotionally manipulate her into doing what they wanted. Then, after these kits have known her as their mother their whole lives, she’s forced to reveal the truth to keep Ashfur from killing them, and they immediately turn on her and reject her as their mother. Then her adopted daughter snaps and reveals the truth at a Gathering, causing her entire Clan to turn on her and her sister, and almost immediately afterwards she gets caught in a rockslide and is presumed dead. Then, when it turns out she isn’t dead, she gets Killed Off for Real one book later (not to mention her father also dies in the same book, and her mother dies in the first book of the subsequent arc). Finally, she and her sister get caught in another rockslide, die, and are judged by StarClan for actions that they themselves were largely manipulated by StarClan into committing (and that many of the StarClan cats judging them had committed themselves) and are forced to prove themselves, and when it’s all over Squirrelflight is allowed to return to the living world to be with her mate and daughter, but Leafpool, her sister and closest companion whom she literally shared a telepathic soul-bond with, chooses to stay behind, dying for real.

Jerkass Woobie

  • Dustpelt. Just Dustpelt. To start, he loses his mentor, Redtail, then his father, then before Dawn ends, he has lost Hollykit, Larchkit, and Shrewpaw. And then The Last Hope happens and Ferncloud dies. Then he loses two more of his kits, Foxleap and Icecloud, in Bramblestar's Storm, before dying himself. All he's ever wanted since most of his family died was death. Poor guy...
  • Bumblestripe. A kind, goofy cat who's very similar to Graystripe. He falls in love with Dovewing, however, Dovewing has eyes for Tigerheart, and nearly claws his fur off for simply trying to help, and Millie has been ignoring him for Briarlight. Things seem to be going better for him when he finally becomes Dovewing's mate, only for her to break up with him at the end of Bramblestar's Storm. And then Dovewing has kits with Tigerheart, the cat she originally loved, and joins ShadowClan to be with him. Ouch.
  • Ashfur of all cats, surprisingly. While his evil actions cannot be excused by any means, an article posted by the official Warriors website points out that Ashfur did lose his mother at a very young age, and may explain his obsessive pursuit over Squirrelflight and his Control Freak nature. His closest companions (Ferncloud and Cloudtail) got mates relatively quickly into their warriorhood and focused on their new families, while Ashfur's only other friend (Brambleclaw) became his rival for Squirrelflight's affections. Moreover, in The Broken Code Ashfur shows very clear signs of a mental disorder, likely what seems to be a stereotypical portrayal a cluster-b personality disorder, and is seemingly unable to understand that he is not the victim and he's a very bad person, let alone claiming he loves Squirrelflight yet tries to control and hurt her and her loved ones. One may reasonably deduce that Ashfur just didn't get the help he needed and it festered into what he became later in his life.

    WindClan

The Woobie

  • Tallstar is placed into this category during Tallstar's Revenge when it is revealed that his father either neglected him or forced him to be a tunneler instead of a moor runner like he wanted. Then his father outright disowns him after it's revealed he nearly drowned in the gorge tunnel. His mother lost her cheerfulness after his sister, Finchkit died, and then his father dies in a tunnel accident. He spends quite a bit of time blaming Sparrow for the death of his father, but it doesn't change the fact that his parents weren't exactly supportive of him. Instead, his mentor, Dawnstripe took on a mother role and comforted him through this difficult time. He's also constantly abused by Shrewclaw who never gets any repercussions for his actions and is blamed by him for his mother's death almost right before Sandgorse dies. Eventually he's given forgiveness allowing him to finally put all this behind him. Then he dies, and his replacement Onestar (who, for added bonus, is Tallstar's nephew)ends up taking a few levels in Jerkass, with occasional kind moments.

Jerkass Woobie

  • Breezepelt is the prickly WindClan warrior son of Crowfeather and Nightcloud in a loveless marriage, born out of despair for Leafpool rejecting Crowfeather. He is constantly asking for his father's approval but rarely (if ever) gets it. As described in The Power of Three, his jealousy of Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf's easy life (for a while) led him to become the Rival Turned Evil. Even to the point where when he does get redeemed in the end, very few characters accept him, and even the protagonists think he got off too lightly for essentially abandoning WindClan for power. In spite of this, he Used to Be a Sweet Kid and eventually comes around. He's a difficult cat to get along with, but on the inside, he's a great father to his kittens born after Series 4 and genuinely wants to keep WindClan strong.
  • Believe it or not, Onestar qualifies to some extent. He starts off as the nicest warrior in WindClan and one of Firestar's top supporters in another Clan. Tallstar names him replacement and at first, he seems like he'll be a good leader. That is, until later books when he constantly stirs up trouble between WindClan and ThunderClan. This is actually simply because he wants to prove his Clan's independence from ThunderClan kind of like America and Britain. He does, however end up being an Ungrateful Bastard whenever ThunderClan helps him. So he's kind of like Crowfeather in that he's a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. It gets better when it's revealed his jerkassitude is just a facade brought on by his self loathing, guilt and unworthiness in Tallstar's eyes. Truth is he fell in love with a loner and she gave birth to several kits. She wanted to stay with Onestar (then Onewhisker) in his Clan. Onestar refused due to worries about her safety and she decided to raise the sixth series' Big Bad born of hate for the Clans who would become like their antichrist. After revealing this, he Mutual kills Darktail his son and is rescued from the Scrappy Heap.
  • Crowfeather, formerly Crowpaw, is one of the cats sent by StarClan to represent WindClan on the Great Journey. He's prickly to a fault, but his troubles began when he fell in love for a RiverClan cat named Feathertail, who gave her life to protect him. After the Journey happens, he chooses his warrior name after Feathertail. After the journey, he meets Leafpool of and the two have a one night stand. Their love for each other seemed even stronger, yet Leafpool had to abandon him. By the third series, he's settled down with a third mate and had a son whom he treats poorly. After the first four series are resolved, Crowfeather breaks up with Nightcloud and vows to be a better father to Breezepelt and his ThunderClan kits. He ultimately remains Amicable Exes with both Nightcloud and Leafpool.

    ShadowClan

The Woobie

  • Tawnypelt. She's the daughter of the Big Bad, her brother is in another Clan, she loses one of her kits, her mate disagrees with her a lot (especially when it comes to receiving help from ThunderClan), and her Clan ended up following Sol forcing her to leave temporarily. You can see all that has affected her, though her pride as a ShadowClan cat has made it difficult to see.
  • Violetpaw. She's not even a year old and already she's this, thanks to her very hectic kithood. She has abandonment issues, seems to believe she's unworthy of love, and is desperately lonely and afraid of not being accepted. Needletail's behavior isn't exactly helping her situation.
  • Shadowsight. From an early age, he's plagued with Convulsive Seizures that seem to come with prophetic visions that are difficult for him and his parents to handle. Ashfur uses him as a pawn in his plot to control the Clans, causing him to blame himself for Bramblestar's death and subsequent possession by Ashfur, and causing his Clanmates and other cats to distrust him for his inexperience and the fact that he was manipulated. The poor cat has multiple near-death experiences, from nearly drowning as a kit to being struck by lightning to being attacked by Ashfur. He's part of the patrol that goes into the Dark Forest to stop Ashfur, nearly dies a couple times there, and finally, Bristlefrost dies saving him from Ashfur, so he blames himself for her death. When all is said and done, he's told by StarClan that he doesn't have a connection with them and won't be sharing with them in dreams (though he can still be a medicine cat). He's later noted as being unusually scarred for a medicine cat and is described as "weird".

Iron Woobie

  • Yellowfang and Raggedstar. Yellowfang wanted to be a warrior like Jayfeather, but ended up becoming a medicine cat preventing her from being with her love, Raggedstar. She is constantly taunted by the resident alpha bitches Foxheart and Lizardstripe, and wants kits more than anything. She can feel the pain of other cats which helps with being a medicine cat. After she secretly has a stand with Raggedstar, all but one of her kits die. The kit that lives grows up to be a tyrant who kills his father. She is exiled from Shadow Clan by Brokenstar and is forced to live and nearly starve to death as a loner. She meets up with Firepaw and after a couple spats, the two become fast friends. Finally, Yellowfang finally has the opportunity and kills Brokenstar with deathberries, only to die herself in a fire. As for Raggedstar, he was constantly taunted for his father being a kittypet and after Yellowfang became a medicine cat, he became depressed. He does get his own kit, but said kit turns out to be more sinister than he ever imagined.
  • Tigerheart. Being the Romantic False Lead to both Ivypool and Dovewing, he's had his heart crushed quite a bit. Not only that, but his sister went insane with grief after their brother dies, and he's forced to support her even though he knows in his heart that Jayfeather isn't a murderer. He also joins the Dark Forest, but eventually becomes a spy for ShadowClan much like Ivypool, and has to watch in horror as Ivypool kills Antpelt. He's also one of the most genuinely nice guys in ShadowClan and like his mother and uncle, shares kin with the Big Bad.
  • Violetpaw. She's not even a year old and already she's this, thanks to her very hectic kithood. She has abandonment issues, seems to believe she's unworthy of love, and is desperately lonely and afraid of not being accepted. Needletail's behavior isn't exactly helping her situation.

    RiverClan

Iron Woobie

  • Crookedstar. After the accident that twisted his jaw, his own mother practically disowned him (he was still a kit at the time), choosing to favor his brother Oakheart instead. Crookedstar goes on to lose the mother he wanted so desperately to earn the love of, his mate, two of his three kits, and eventually his third kit Silverstream (his mate and kits were sick and all but Silverstream died shortly after birth). Yet at the end, he was able to confront the cat that did all of this to him (Mapleshade) and truthfully tells her that he regrets nothing and is content with his life despite the overwhelming pain each death brought him. He knew he would see his loved ones again in StarClan and no matter what Mapleshade did, he would never allow her to bring him down like she wanted. He died a happy cat and, as the book Cats of the Clans mentioned, was one of the brightest and strongest leaders the Clans have ever seen.
  • Mothwing. For one she's the daughter of the series Big Bad, Tigerstar, and she doesn't believe in StarClan despite being a medicine cat. She was horribly manipulated by her brother, Hawkfrost, can't teach her apprentice about StarClan, and is implied to be a lesbian. If that wasn't enough, her mentor dies while she's barely had any training forcing her to panic in many situations. Thankfully, it is because of her that RiverClan is able to join the fight against the Dark Forest.
  • Mistyfoot/Mistystar. Her father dies at the beginning of the series. Her brother dies trying to fight cats who tried to kill both of them (and their apprentices), her mother dies after revealing that she was their true mother, she was captured by Twolegs, cats didn't trust her since she was halfClan, and her kit Reedwhisker would have died had it not been for Leafpool and Mothwing's combined efforts. Then her Clan gets driven out and several of her Clanmates, including her own son, are imprisoned and starved before being rescued. This cat is the definition of Trauma Conga Line.
  • Feathertail. She and her brother grew up in an incredibly volatile time period as Tigerstar rose to power. After being traumatized by her own leader ordering Stonefur to kill her and her brother, as well as his subsequent sacrifice, she developed severe trust issues and felt like an outsider in her own Clan because of how everyone seems to have just moved on from what happened as well as her half-Clan heritage, while her brother seemed to fit right in. She gets punished for defending her friend Ferncloud, a ThunderClan cat, from bullies from her own Clan who wanted to beat her up just because they felt like it, and when she finally makes a new friend who understands what it’s like to feel like an outsider, it turns out that said new friend was Tigerstar’s mate and she still has feelings for him. The cherry on top is that, once she’s finally able to heal from her trauma, forgive her leader, and feel like she truly belongs in her Clan, StarClan chooses her to go on a journey that she doesn’t yet realize that SHE WILL NEVER RETURN FROM. As the traveling group she’s with is heading home from the Sun-drown-place, they decide to take a shortcut. As a result, her brother is held captive by cats who believe he is the chosen one who will save them from a mountain lion, but it turns out that she is the actual chosen one, and she sacrifices her life to save everyone else.

    SkyClan

The Woobie

  • Rootspring. As a new apprentice, he is bullied and mocked by Turtlepaw and Kitepaw and looked down on my many of his other Clanmates just for being the son of Tree, a "weird" tom. Then, he falls in love with Bristlefrost, who lives in ThunderClan, who at first doesn't return his feelings. When she finally falls in love with him too, Rootspring spends moons trying to decide whether or not to leave his Clan to be with her. Finally, Rootspring decides that he loves her more than his Clan, but before he has a chance to tell her this, Bristlefrost sacrifices her very existence to save the Clans. Because of this, poor Rootspring now has to exist without the cat he loved the most.

    Loners and Kittypets

The Woobie

  • Ravenpaw and Barley. Ravenpaw was heavily bullied in his Clan by the Big Bad, everyone thought he was a murderer and traitor so he had to hide out at Barley's barn. Barley grew up as a BloodClan cat who had to scrounge for everything. Barley nearly lost his sister to his brothers who had joined BloodClan and tried to kill Barley and his sister. Scourge tried to have him killed for treachery. These two earned their happy ending.

Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds

  • Scourge. Once a kittypet named Tiny, he was relentlessly bullied by his two siblings, Socks and Ruby; his only confidante being his mother, Quince. In an attempt to get rid of him, his siblings told him that he would be drowned in the river because no one would want him. Fearing for his life, he ran away into the forest, only to encounter ThunderClan warrior Thistleclaw and his apprentice, Tigerpaw; the latter of whom brutally beat him until Bluefur found them and intervened. From there, he ran away into the city and was forced to fend for himself, and as he grew up he essentially became the cat equivalent of a ruthless gang leader, re-christening himself Scourge and exacting his revenge on those who had wronged him. Though he may be vicious and bloodthirsty, you can’t deny that knowing the context behind why he is the way he is makes Tigerstar’s death at his claws much more satisfying, albeit extremely brutal (ESPECIALLY for a children’s series).

     The Dark Forest

Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds

  • Mapleshade. Once a kind-hearted, albeit rather naive ThunderClan warrior, Mapleshade had a forbidden love affair with a RiverClan tom named Appledusk, and had his kits. When her Clan found out, they furiously cast her and her kits out into a violent storm. In desperation, Mapleshade tried to take her kits to their father, but a flood swept them away and they drowned. Blaming Mapleshade for their kits' deaths, Appledusk cast her out too, and took a new mate. Now completely alone, utterly heartbroken, her mind crawling with hallucinations of her drowned kits, Mapleshade's grief and rage twisted her into a vengeful murderer, then the most feared cat in the Dark Forest, and finally one of the darkest and most dangerous villains the Clans had ever faced. It doesn’t excuse her actions, but it at least provides some insight as to why she is the way she is.

    The Tribe of Rushing Water

Iron Woobie

  • Stormfur, like Crowfeather has lost his sister, Feathertail, his mother, his father, who was Put on a Bus and his mentor, Stonefur. In the end, he feels closer to the Tribe than the Clans. Which leads him into taking Brook as a mate and earning a bittersweet ending. Until he's driven out by Stoneteller, due to leading the Tribe to battle against the invaders, and lives in ThunderClan until he returns in Outcast, finally settling down with Brook and having kits.
  • Brook too. She tried to be courteous to Stormfur and the visiting cats, having lost many friends to Sharptooth and lived in fear. She also lost her brother, and she is driven out of the tribe with her mate Stormfur and ends up in RiverClan where she is driven out of there and nearly killed by Hawkfrost, fleeing to ThunderClan where she seems to not fit in well. Finally, the two get a happy ending when they return to the tribe and have two kits, a tom and a she-cat.

    The Ancients

The Woobie

  • Fallen Leaves. This is a cat who was sent down into a dark tunnel and ended up drowning. He then remained in the tunnels for years after his Tribe was long gone from the lake. And since Rock is usually never around, he's extremely lonely and practically cries out to Jayfeather not to leave him again. If this cat isn't prime Woobie material, then I don't know who is.

    Dawn of the Clans

The Woobie

  • Bumble. She’s a friendly, outgoing kittypet who forms a friendship with Turtle Tail, but Gray Wing holds a petty grudge against her for “stealing” his friend from him and is frequently hostile to her for no reason. She’s later trapped in an abusive relationship with Tom, who beats her whenever their Twolegs aren’t around, and when she seeks asylum with Tall Shadow’s group, nearly everyone, even Turtle Tail, her only friend; even characters like her and Gray Wing who the narrative frames as the “good guys,” cruelly reject her; all the while insulting her to her face by calling her soft, lazy, weak, fat, etc., dismissing her concerns & downplaying the severity of her situation, and even victim-blaming her for the abuse she faces. Apart from Gray Wing, who was always jealous of her, Tall Shadow is particularly dismissive of her, seeming detached from what life is like for cats outside of the group, while Wind Runner and Gorse Fur want to force her out so they can get in instead. But most hypocritically of all, Turtle Tail had chosen the life of a kittypet, been abused by the exact same cat, had also faced prejudice from the moor cats upon returning because the life of a kittypet had supposedly made her soft and disloyal…only for her to turn around and refuse her friend shelter when Bumble had gladly welcomed her into her own home. Later on, Clear Sky finds her alone and starving, plans to attack her as a “warning,” and leaves her to be mauled by a fox; claiming he “went to find help” only when the others arrived by the time it was already too late.

Iron Woobie

  • Thunder. He lost his mother and his siblings when he was born. Then his father exiles him and obviously favours Bright Stream's unborn kits over him. When he returns to the moor, very few cats welcome him back. It takes proving him several times over for the cats to accept him back and welcome him as a member of their group. Then his adopted mother Hawk Swoop dies in the battle against Clear Sky's group. His first love interest, Star Flower, ends up betraying him and tries to get him and his friends killed. Worse, she eventually is paired with Clear Sky. And if the expanded universe is any indication, his first deputy and best friend, Lightning Tail dies shortly after the Clans are formed.
  • Gray Wing. Every cat he has loved has died or moved on or both. From Bright Stream who loved his brother Clear Sky over him is taken away (confirmed is dead) by a hawk, to Storm who he loves but wants her to be happy with Clear Sky because Clear Sky already lost Bright Stream. Being oblivious to Turtle Tail's feelings causes her to go live with Bumble and Tom, the latter of which abuses her and kidnaps her kits. He's had to bear witness to much bloodshed between his group and Clear Sky's group which ultimately resulted in many of his comrades' deaths, he's sickly from the fire that happened when he tried to save Clear Sky's group, and Turtle Tail ends up dying when going to save her kits from Tom. Poor guy's gone through so much, and it's only going to get worse... And then when he finally gets some bit of happiness when he gets a new mate, he ends up dying due to his asthma.
  • Arguably, Moth Flight. According to Word of God, she has ADHD. Unfortunately for her, cats don't know about this condition, so she is constantly made fun of for being so dreamy. After nearly getting her father killed in an accident, Moth Flight runs away, and meets a farm cat named Micah. She receives a vision telling her to learn about medicine, and that Micah must, as well. They come home, and all seems to be well. The problem is, Micah lives in SkyClan while Moth Flight lives in WindClan. (The two Clans are at war). Micah also has an abusive leader. The two fall in love, but then Micah tragically dies, leaving Moth Flight pregnant at the mere age of ten moons. Moth Flight becomes depressed, unable to care for herself or her family. Luckily, she recovers. Unluckily, Moth Flight becomes paranoid that someone would die while she neglected her duties to spend time with her family. She is forced to give up her kits due to an alteration to the medicine cat code, unable to see them often. Ouch.

Jerkass Woobie

  • Clear Sky may seem like a total Jerkass especially having killed two cats accidentally, but he's really a good example of a Jerkass Woobie in the Warriors universe. For one he loses his sister, his first mate and her unborn kits following the sun trail, then he loses his second mate and all but one of her kits. Everyone hates him and thinks he's a monster for expanding territory when all he wants to do is feed his group, though the way he goes about defending the borders is somewhat amoral. His two brothers want nothing to do with him (one resents him, and the other knows deep down he's a decent cat but has an unpopular opinion of the moor cats). Then, when he does snap out of it thanks to Storm's spirit only Gray Wing believes him. He then goes on to form SkyClan which is also exiled from the forest. His parallels to Crowfeather and Hollyleaf make him a very sympathetic antagonist.
