Young Justice
- Phil LaMarr and Zeno Robinson auditioned for the role of Aqualad before Khary Payton was cast. LaMarr and Robinson would go on to voice Aquaman and Cyborg respectively. Robinson also read for the part of Kid Flash before the casting of Jason Spisak.
- Lacey Chabert, Mae Whitman and Alyson Stoner auditioned for the role of Miss Martian before Danica McKellar was cast. Chabert, Whitman and Stoner would eventually go on to voice Zatanna, Wonder Girl and Oracle respectively.
- Crispin Freeman initially read for Superboy and Superman before the casting of Nolan North. However, the producers thought he'd be a more suitable choice for Red Arrow instead.
- Weisman has commented that Wonder Girl was declared off-limits too early in the development process to know if she would have made the final cut for the season one or not. For various reasons the character wasn't unavailable till Invasion after the five year time skip, so Wonder Girl II, Cassie Sandsmark, was used. Weisman later
revealed that the original Wonder Girl, Donna Troy, had been part of the team during the timeskip and was actually intended to appear in the episode "Satisfaction", but the role had to be cut for time and budget purposes. She also would have used her later code-name "Troia", which was exactly her name when season 3 brought her back, albeit having retired from hero duty to become a United Nations ambassador. - Mary Bromfield (as "Sergeant Marvel") and Freddy Freeman (as "Lieutenant Marvel") were two other timeskip members that were meant to have a role, but could not be fit into the season. Mary was also initially meant to be in "Satisfaction", and a story involving the Marvel Family had to be scrapped from the tie-in comic in favor of focusing on the five year timeskip. Greg Weisman confirmed that Sergeant Marvel and Lieutenant Marvel were still members of the Team at some point in the show, even if their membership was entirely offscreen, even having confirmed zeta designations (B14 for Lieutenant Marvel, B15 for Sergeant Marvel). Ultimately, Mary finally appeared in season 4 as one of Zatanna's Sentinels of Magic, though putting her past as Sergeant Marvel behind her, or so we thought. As for Freddy, a race lifted to black Freddy finally makes his first physical appearance in the background during Wally's funeral in a flashback during the Targets miniseries.
- In "Revelation", several of the Injustice League members didn't talk because, in Greg's words, they literally didn't have the budget to spare to hire actors for them - Atomic Skull, Black Adam and Ultra-Humanitenote had no lines as a result. Greg wound up voicing Ultra-Humanite himself when the character was brought back as a new member of the Light, replacing the Brain, in season 3, while Black Adam gets a mention of conquering planets offscreen for the Light in a tie-in comic.
- One idea that Greg Weisman had revealed on his Q&A website was potential plans to adapt the events of DC Showcase: Green Arrow, which he previously directed, into the tie-in comics. Although he was unable to do this originally, characters created for the short such as Perdita and Henchy would still make appearances in episodes of the show. He would later finally adapt DC Showcase into the flashback sequences of the Targets comic miniseries.
Young Justice: Invasion
- Both Icon and Rocket were slated for bigger roles during the Invasion story arc of the comic tie-in. However, they were written out after the first issue of the arc due to legal issues.
- While it was never decisively settled on, because Cartoon Network only ordered 20 episodes for season two, Greg has said that if they'd been given more, there probably would have been an episode focusing on Zatanna.
- The finale episode "Endgame" had some dialogue that was cut for time - including Lex Luthor being called out for the Reach invasion, Wally and Artemis discussing an intended return to the hero life and balancing it with their normal lives (which was also cut because it would have made Wally's death too obvious), and just in general some additional wrap-up that wasn't necessary but would have helped tie up loose ends a little better.
- Red Tornado also had an arc cut from the second season. It would also have involved Traya, his adopted daughter from the comics, who does end up debuting in season 3.
- Originally, Flash (Barry Allen) was supposed to be killed off in the finale, but Greg Weisman changed the ending to kill Wally West instead because he wanted to surprise the audience. This can be seen from the fact that while the weapon used was made by the Reach instead of the Anti-Monitor, the death was handed out via disintegration, much like in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Young Justice: Outsiders
- Supergirl and the Wonder Twins, Zan and Jayna, were considered to appear in the season before being scrapped due to a lack of relevancy within the plot. Supergirl would appear in the fourth season finale stinger as a Fury of Darkseid.
- Greg stated that they had plans for Ravager/Rose Wilson, Deathstroke's daughter, although he said would have to do more research on her for a future appearance. This may have been why his stance with Terra was given an Adaptation Relationship Overhaul to make him a father figure to her, and why Terra had a Not His Sled with her usual comic book story by joining the heroes fully, as Rose was known to do.
- The season's focus on social media was not present in the original outlines for the season, but was eventually added as a result of how social media played a part in getting the series Un-Cancelled. Likewise, Beast Boy originally would have stayed Demoted to Extra, but with the story rewrites, he was able to return as a main character in season 3.
Miscellaneous
- Greg Weisman, Brandon Vietti, and comic book artist Christopher Jones pitched various continuations to their original parent network, Cartoon Network, that included TV movies, a spinoff show starring the Arrow family, an Earth-16 comic, and even a crossover with Scooby-Doo.note
