What An Idiot / Jackie Chan Adventures

Go To

It's a shame the family of one of the most celebrated martial artists of all time can't think before they act.

  • In the first season, Valmont is working with Shendu to obtain the talismans so that he can get the treasure of Ching Shian in return.
You'd Expect: He wouldn't blindly trust him. Even if he is dangerous, he must at least keep some talismans all to himself.
Instead: Whenever Shendu reminds him of the treasure, Valmont keeps on trusting him to get it in return. Eventually, when he gets all of the talismans and gained his true form, Shendu betrays him, leading to the events of losing his empire and forced to stay in a warehouse with all of his fortune gone, setting up his Villain Decay.
  • In "The Jade Monkey", Jade uses the monkey talisman to turn herself into a monkey in order to hide from the Dark Hand. Before she can change back, another monkey steals it, leaving her stuck in her new form. As she tried to tell him about it, he can't understand her in that state so she has to draw an arrow and stand right in front of it.
You'd Expect: Being the smart archeologist that he is, Jackie will discover it's Jade.
Instead: He just think it's a direction to where Jade is.
To Make Matters Worse: Jackie doesn't even figure out that the monkey was Jade until she gets the talisman and changes herself back in front of him and another monkey that HE thought was Jade.
Furthermore: Jade is also an idiot in this scenario. Instead of drawing an arrow towards herself, she could have written "Jackie, I am Jade! I turned myself into a monkey and lost the talisman!" or something along those lines. But she doesn't.
  • At the end of the episode “The Amazing T-Girl” Uncle restores the powers from Jade back into the talismans before Daolon Wong could absorb them, causing the dark wizard to fall victim to his own paralysis spell.
You’d Expect: Daolon would call his Dark Chi Warriors and order them to collect the talismans.
Instead: He just lays on the ground vowing revenge.
  • In the Season 3 finale, Daolon Wong has resurrected Shendu to obtain the power of the dragon talisman.
You'd Expect: Wong to not waste his time of letting him get it and get it for himself.
Instead: He just stands still allowing Shendu to get it. Of course, he doesn't even realize Shendu is prone to betraying others like Valmont. So, yeah...
  • Speaking of Shendu betraying Valmont...
You'd Expect: Now that he has all the powers of the talismans, he should eliminate him and the Enforcers as well.
Instead: He ended up taking his attention to Jackie, sparing them. Later on, they attempt to retaliate for his betrayal by stealing all the treasure in his castle.
  • During the climax of season 3, Shendu has Jackie and Jade trapped under a cage with all the noble animals around him.
You’d Expect: Shendu would kill Jackie and Jade first and then reclaim his talisman powers.
Instead: He takes his sweet time to absorb the powers one by one while Jackie and Jade watch.
The Result: Not only does Uncle get enough time to depower Daolon Wong, but also prepare the same chi spell Lo Pei used to trap Shendu inside a statue.
  • The times Uncle reminded Captain Black "magic must defeat magic".
You'd Expect: The captain of Section 13 would realize that his advanced weapons won't be any match for any supernatural creature that is going on their direction. Therefore, he has to let Uncle use any spell to take care any problem.
Instead: No matter how many times Uncle keeps on saying the phrase, Black keeps on sending his men and the advanced weapons on supernatural creatures like Shendu and even Drago, much to the old man's chagrin.
Uncle: After all these years, Black has learned nothing. Magic must defeat magic.
  • The Running Gag whenever Jackie would tell Jade not to get involved in his many adventures.
You'd Expect: He should be specific on the details on what not to be involved in, like when he told her to stay with Uncle, he meant his uncle.
Instead: He only tells her to stay put without details like which uncle he is talking about, resulting in Jade continuing to Loophole Abuse to be involved.
Alternatively: You'd expect Jackie to eventually give up and willingly let Jade accompany him. She always finds a way to tag along anyway, and has proven that she is too useful to leave behind. Plus, if he knows she is with him, he can do a better job at keeping track of and protecting her, as opposed to her sneaking around and risking capture or death by the enemies while Jackie is unaware of her presence. Instead, he's always shocked when she defies him, besides how often he runs into situations where he would be defeated or killed without Jade interfering in the nick of time.
  • In "The Rock", Jade has stolen all the talismans from Section 13 in exchange for the antidote to the potion that will turn Jackie to stone in about 12 hours.
You'd Expect: She would remember that she left the Horse talisman at Uncle's shop and might as well steal it.
Instead: She just books it, grabbing the talismans from the vault and leaving the place. As soon as she gives them to the Enforcers, the Horse talisman is missing. When Uncle arrives with it, the antidote was already dropped to the ground.
  • "Into the Mouth of Evil" has the Evil All Along trio of archeologists plotting to obtain the treasure from the Ganges river.
You'd Expect: They would use a submarine to travel into the ocean like a normal researcher would do.
Instead: They plot to steal an Evil Sutra that will cause the river to dry all up, setting the conflict between them and the guardians of the artifact with Jackie on the center.
  • "Tohru Who" has Valmont tricking Tohru into working for him, again when he erased all of his memories. Jackie, Jade, and Uncle come to Tohru's rescue and see them trying to get in a temple to steal the golden elephant statue. Valmont has plans to become rich by using it. However, he and his minion are given a riddle in order to pass the Lake of Riddles leading to the temple, and they can't find an answer.
You'd Expect: The Chans would take advantage of this and take them down quickly at this moment.
Instead: Jade ended up blurting out the answer: autobiography. As a result, Valmont and Tohru passed through the lake, making Jackie and Uncle give angry looks at Jade while she said "oopsie". "Oopsie" is right, Jade!
  • In "When Pigs Fly", Jackie has just captured the Noble rooster Egbert right as Uncle has detected the Noble pig.
You'd Expect: Jackie to send a Section 13 pickup to bring the rooster there so he isn't lugging a target around for Daolon Wong to pluck while searching for the pig.
Instead: Jackie brings the rooster all the way to Kansas with him and Jade while they try to claim the pig. Egbert gets free and forms a partnership with the pig possessing HEAT BEAM EYES as they cause havoc before Daolon Wong manages to claim both their powers.
