Supernatural Academy is an American animated fantasy television series that premiered on Peacock on January 20, 2022. It is loosely based on the book series created by Jaymin Eve.

Mischa Jackson/Lebron is a 16-year-old girl living in the human world with her mom Lienda. Her twin sister Jessa Lebron is a popular girl and Wolf-Shifter living at Supernatural Academy with her father, council leader Jonathon. Having been split up at birth, the twins have no idea of each other's existence. Mischa, in particular, has no idea of the supernatural world—populated by Shifters, Magic-Users, Faeries, Trolls, Harpies, Vampires and Mermaids—and lives as a normal teenager in modern-day New York City.

Mischa has visions of wolves, dragons and strange doors, which she draws in her notebook. Her suppressed powers are slowly awakening. Deciding that she can no longer hide and protect her daughter in the human world, Lienda reunites Mischa with her sister and father and enrolls her in Supernatural Academy.

Learning you've got a secret sister is hard enough, but then they find out the true reason their parents separated them at birth: they're Dragon Marked, cursed to serve the evil Dragon King. These adversarial twins will have to learn to get over their differences and trust each other in order to save themselves and save the world.

Tropes:

  • All-Ghouls School: Supernatural Academy is attended by Shifters, Magic-Users, Faeries, Trolls, Harpies, Vampires and Mermaids.
  • Extranormal Institute: Supernatural Academy is attended by Shifters, Magic-Users, Faeries, Trolls, Harpies, Vampires and Mermaids.
  • In Name Only: The show differs greatly from the books; it barely even qualifies as In Name Only because it actually takes a lot more inspiration from a different series set in the same universe, Supernatural Prison, including featuring Jessa Lebron as a main protagonist and the whole plotline about the Dragon Marked (while Jessa does show up in Supernatural Academy, the main protagonist is Maddi James, who is loosely made into a Composite Character with Mischa for the show, and the plot revolves around battling evil Atlanteans). Both series are undoubtedly adult books, with the author's website stating they're not intended for readers under 17 due to the explicit sexual content, and the main characters are in their 20s. The animated series ages the characters down to be 16 and largely removes the sexual content, aiming the series more at pre-teens / teens.
  • Not Using the "Z" Word: Jessa insists that Wolf-Shifters are little-to-nothing like the werewolves in horror movies and is not really fond of the term.
  • Our Werebeasts Are Different: Aside from the Wolf Shifters, there are also Lion, Bear, and Dragon Shifters.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Jessa gets offended when Mischa calls her a werewolf, and clarifies the real term is "Wolf Shifter". Silver does hurt them, but they aren't controlled by the moon.
  • Separated at Birth: Jessa was raised in the Supernatural world, confident and popular. Mischa was raised in the human world, an offbeat outsider. Now they're about to be reunited at the Supernatural Academy, and neither one of them is thrilled about it.
