- Our Gryphons Are Different: Gryphons in the show are said to be made of pure magical energy. The MacGuffin of season 1 is the Gryphon's Egg, which functions as a pure magical battery.
- Token Evil Teammate: After joining the team at the start of season 2, Jayce becomes this for most of the season. He is much crueler to enemies than the other protagonists, can revert to a "demon form" in which he becomes far more powerful but has no control over his body, and is willing to leave his teammates behind to the mercy of soldiers if he can.
