Daniel Spellbound is a Netflix computer animated series Canadian computer-animated series that was created and directed by Matt Fernandez and produced by Industrial Brothers for Boat Rocker Animation.

It focuses on a teenage tracker named Daniel Spellbound, who helps track down magician objects for customers.

It stars Alex Barima as Daniel Spellbound, Deven Mack as Hoagie, and Chantel Riley as Lucy Santana.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: In the first episode, Daniel sneaks into a room full of ogres guarding a golden statue. He briefly eyes the statue saying "Let's make that money" before walking over to what he actually came for: the duplication mushrooms located in the ogres' poop.
  • Big Applesauce: The show primarily takes place in New York.
  • Big Bad:
    • Camilla/The Dark Mage serves as the main antagonist of Season 1.
    • Jayce becomes this in Season 2.
  • Cliffhanger:
    • Season 1 ends with Daniel and Hoagie getting chased by the other trackers after Daniel was rejousted as a tracker, where it's later revealed because he showed a dowser the outpost.
    • Season 2 ends with the reveal that Burden is alive and wants revenge on Daniel, the kicker? His scars glow a bit of purple, possibly Dread Magic.
  • Cool Car: Both figuratively and literally in the case of the ice cream van that Daniel and his allies travel in. It can teleport and has freezers full of ice cream bars in the back. Unfortunately, its teleportation abilities are limited by how much magic it has in reserve.
  • Evil All Along: Camilla Thomas is revealed to be The Dark Mage.
  • Evil Smells Bad: Hoagie has the power to detect magic and describes different kinds of magic as different smells, with evil magic having bad smells.
  • Good All Along: Victor Albright turns out to be good as he helps Daniel stop the Dark Mage.
  • Griping About Gremlins: Gremlins are one of the many magical species in the show's universe. They're excellent with technology,to the point where the Bureaux of Magical Enforcement needs Gremlin technology for their vehicles.
  • Hammerspace: Lucy in particular frequently pulls her baton from behind her back.
  • Informed Wrongness: Lucy says that duplication spells are illegal and dangerous. While they are illegal, nothing shown onscreen shows them to be explicitly dangerous.
  • Me's a Crowd: Any magician with duplication mushrooms can pull off this feat.
  • Our Gryphons Are Different: Gryphons in the show are said to be made of pure magical energy. The MacGuffin of season 1 is the Gryphon's Egg, which functions as a pure magical battery.
  • Token Evil Teammate: After joining the team at the start of season 2, Jayce becomes this for most of the season. He is much crueler to enemies than the other protagonists, can revert to a "demon form" in which he becomes far more powerful but has no control over his body, and is willing to leave his teammates behind to the mercy of soldiers if he can.
