"Hello, and welcome to Felix Recenserar! Today, we're going to watch the wonderfully bad film [review subject]."
—How Felix opens most episodes of Felix Recenserar

Are you interested in watching a guy with glasses scream about Swedish movies, or another guy cooking horribly disgusting food, then serving it to his friends, all accompanied with broad accents and a truckload of awful puns? Then you've come to just the right place.

Monte Fjanton is a Swedish Youtube channel with a main focus on comedy that has covered a lot of different projects through the years, but is always recognized through a large amount of snark, Take Thats, running gags, puns and comedic overreactions.

Their most popular project is called Felix Recenserar, which is a Video Review Show focusing (almost) solely on Swedish movies and foreign movies dubbed to Swedish. They also make Basses Rätt i Skafferiet (called Basse Cooks Stuff in the English subtitles for the earlier episodes), which pokes fun of cooking shows by having the premise be to cook something disgusting, then have people try to eat it.

Some of their minor projects include Mystikhörnan (called The Mystery Show in the English subtitles for earlier episodes), which is one of their few works to have a scripted plot (though not a very comprehensive one) poking fun at conspiracy theories, Midnatts-Let's Play, which is best described as an unscripted vlog with Let's Play elements, Felix Recenspelar, which is similar to Felix Recenserar but focuses on video games that aren't necessarily Swedish. They also do vlogs from time to time.

Their Youtube channel can be found here.

Their videos provide examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Wabuu the Racoon. In the original Dingo Pictures movies he's meant to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, but Felix in his reviews plays up his jerkishness to present him as downright evil and sadistic. When Wabuu actually appears in (poorly-animated) person in later episodes of Felix Recenserar, he's characterized as an Affably Evil Reality Warper, bordering on Eldritch Abomination, who forces Felix to watch Dingo Pictures movies because he enjoys watching him suffer.
  • Angrish: Felix falls into this occasionally in Felix Recenserar.
  • Arch-Enemy: Wabuu the Raccoon, being the mascot for Dingo Pictures, is sort of set up as this for Felix. He appears in a number of title cards to Troll Felix, and in the Djurens Konung review, he shows up (with his official Swedish voice actor reprising the role) to whisk Felix into an alternate dimension where he owns nothing by Dingo Pictures movies. and refuses to let him go home before he's reviewed another Dingo Pictures movie. The Dingos inferno movie consisting of the last Dingo Pictures reviews also feature him as a villain, although this time he does not make any appearances until near the end.
  • Artifact Title:
    • According to their NärCon Sommar 2015 Q&A, their channel name is one. The name was basically meant to evoke Monty Python while having a silly twist to it, as "fjant" is a Swedish term for a silly person. However, their works have very little to do with Monty Python nowadays. Felix and Basse remember thinking the name was bad and considering changing it, but then realized the Felix Recenserar episode on Hip Hip Hora was absolutely blowing up and that their channel name had become their brand name, and that they were stuck with it, like it or not. That being said, they couldn't come up with any better name ideas for their channel when they were considering changing it.
    • While the first episodes of Basse and Felix's Midnatts-Let's Playnote  series were actually recorded at midnight, this has not been the case for a long time. This is occasionally Lampshaded in later installments of the series.
  • Back from the Dead: Morgan Månstråle dies in the first season of his show, but then comes back to life. Maybe.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Felix absolutely loathes Swedish actor Helena Bergström and the fact that she has a successful career. He has stated multiple times that he thinks she's the worst Swedish actor of all time, and that he believes the only reason she keeps getting new jobs is due to nepotism through her husband Colin Nutley, or as Felix himself puts it, "she fucks the director".
    • Felix has also expressed dislike for numerous of the films he's reviewed, the reboot of the Sune films, the Åsa-Nisse franchise and the Barbie films in particular.
    • Being requested to review things that don't fit his criteria is also a sore spot for him. For a film to be considered being reviewed for Felix Recenserar, it has to be Swedish (or dubbed to Swedish), it has to be a film and it has to be bad. Though he has reviewed a few tv series and a few movies he believes to be good, those reviews are still very rare, and he has only deviated from the criteria of a movie having to be Swedish/dubbed to Swedish exactly twice, and even then, one of the times, it was due to Early-Installment Weirdness. Felix has stated that his focus on Swedish films is what puts him apart from other Video Review Shows, and without that, there's nothing that would make Felix Recenserar interesting compared to similar shows. It bothers him so much that at one point, he even made an April Fools review of the first Twilight movie, where he's off camera most of the video, not even watching the movie, then ending the video with emphasizing that he will never review Twilight, nor The Room (2003) or any other foreign films that haven't been dubbed to Swedish.
    • The amount of (badly done) Toilet Humour in the 2000's Sune movies and theatre special is also a point of contention and mockery in the reviews, to the point where they mention Sune vs. Sune not using any of it as one of the reasons it's much better than the other ones.
  • Black Comedy:
    • Mystikhörnan rarely shies from cracking jokes, even when the group desecrates a grave in season 2... And the coffin turns out to be made of plywood because "it was either this or dumping [them] in a ditch."
    • Lampshaded when Felix reviews 15: det är mitt liv. Since his reviews about the series are heavy on the snarky comedic commentary and some of the episodes tackle pretty heavy topics, he ends up saying "so, uh... Funny jokes coming up!!" in a rather distressed tone before tackling one of the worse episodesnote  with a Black Comedy Burst. On the other hand he also criticises the YouTube comments that try to pull off black comedy themselves and do so poorly:
Felix, wiping his eyes: "What, you should be allowed to joke about anything!" Sure, but if so the joke has to be good, you fucking dickhead...
  • Brown Note: The concentrated BRIS taste, which is so potently disgusting the victim starts convulsing.
  • Caustic Critic: Felix' bread and butter.
  • Catchphrase:
    • In Mystikhörnan, Morgan's (and to some extent, Kenneth's) is "shut up, Leffe!". Kenneth also has "thanks for that, Morgan!", which also is the Stock Phrase that Felix uses to get into character.
  • Comical Overreacting: Very common, especially in Felix Recenserar and Mystikhörnan.
  • Conspiracy Kitchen Sink: Mystikhörnan may or may not be this; you're never quite sure which (if any) of the theories are true.
  • Couch Gag: Nearly every episode of Felix Recenserar is ended with Felix summing up how he feels about the movie, then pointing out a Funny Background Event and giving the movie a 10/10 solely because of that.
  • Creator In-Joke: Some of the running gags are this, most notably the use of the word "gräta"note . It originally came from a friend of the members, and they ended up using it as well, eventually turning it into a running gag.
  • The Danza: Discussed in the review for Blå Måndag. Actress Eva Röse's character is also named Ewa, just with a W instead of a V, Felix says that it feels weird when the actor and character share the same name and that it makes the other characters come more across as talking to Eva Röse rather than the character she plays, taking the viewer out of the experience of watching the movie.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Felix, as well as Leffe in Mystikhörnan.
  • Delayed Reaction: A non-verbal and nonscripted version of this happens in Basses rätt i skafferiet: powerkagor och pulvershakes with Macke. Toward the end of the video he swallows a decent amount of the episode's powdershake, seems fine as the others joke about having to drive him to the hospital... And then his face scrunches up and he turns several shades redder in just a few seconds due to the shocking aftertaste.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: At the end of the review for Beck: Mannen Utan Ansikte, the robbers blow up Felix' house. Because he badmouthed the movie.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The two first episodes of Felix Recenserar were recorded in 2010, when the series' proper debut was one year later, and it shows. The first episode has Basse doing some of the commentary on screen instead of Felix, which hasn't happened since. The second episode is recorded at a graveyard, and covers a foreign movie that hasn't been dubbed to Swedish, that being Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. It's also the shortest episode of Felix Recenserar to date.
    • The creators made English subtitles through closed captioning for the first two episodes of Mystikhörnan and some early episodes of Basses Rätt i Skafferiet. (Later videos sometimes have community-contributed subtitles, but this is fairly rare and at least one of those were just a Gag Sub.)
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Gets briefly discussed in an episode of their Age of Empires II Let's-Plays when Walter asks if Felix ever got called Felixen ("The Felix" with an accent on the "lix"). Felix responds "Probably, by somebody who I punched really hard afterwards."
  • Extreme Omnivore: The taste testers from Basses Rätt i Skafferiet could apply for Type 1 as they are very frequently shown eating all kinds of bizarre and squicky combinations of ingredients. However, they downplay it as they can't always keep the food down for very long.
Felix: Yeah, it was tough as hell to get it down, but I'm hungry too. So like, my body's just happy that it got some food.
  • Fanfic Fuelinvoked: Macke and Basse invoke this when discussing the ending of Mystikhörnan's third season in the making-of video:
Felix: It's like The Brothers Lionheart; the protagonists move on to the next reality.
Macke: You can write your own fan fiction of the real REAL reality.
Basse: [Looking at the camera] What is that reality like?
  • Food Porn: Parodied in Basse's Rätt i Skafferiet. A lot of the food is shown in a way that invokes the feel of the trope, but since Basse cooked the food, it doesn't have that effect.
  • Fourth-Wall Mail Slot: Morgans frågelåda, a segment in some episodes of Mystikhörnan where Morgan replies to viewer questions about conspiracy theories.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus:
    • In the review for Wabuu, exactly 13 minutes and 37 seconds into the video, a screen saying 13:37 is briefly shown.
    • A failed example of the same thing also happens in the very first episode of Felix Recenserar, where this screen appears 13 minutes and 41 seconds into the video. According to Felix, this is because the screen was added before the intro to the video, and they didn't bother with moving the screen to its correct place in the video.
  • Funny Background Event: Felix loves these, to the point that him pointing them out has become a Couch Gag in Felix Recenserar.
  • Gainax Ending: The ending for Season 2 of Mystikhörnan qualifies as this.
  • Grammar Nazi: Felix shows shades of this in his review series, such as claiming that "there's no problem with this movie, just with reality" after finding out that people occasionally call a walk "promenadtur"note . When reading comments out loud he will also read the comments exactly as said, including pronouncing shortened words like "vrf" (shortened form of "varför" meaning "why") as a string of consonants and in some cases mentioning the exact amount of punctuation used if they use more than two exclamation marks.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Most of the theories that appear in Mystikhörnan run on this, as well as some of Felix' theories about the media he reviews. For instance, he once claims that the mother of the protagonist in one episode of 15: det är mitt liv is the devil just because a small doodle of a demon can be spotted in the same episode.
  • Interface Screw: Their fifth Q&A stream ended up being this. It started innocently enough, with a viewer asking Basse, Felix and Figgehn to name their favorite angle grinders, which they did and proceeded to demonstrate by adding images of said angle grinders to the stream. But as time went on, playing off of viewer questions, they added images or videos of reality star Bärgar-Berra, fellow Youtuber Pontus Rasmusson, "Johan Nilsson" (presented as the channel member, but in fact just an image of another guy pulled from Google) and "Macke" (actually an image of Basse, as it came up when searching for Macke's name), complete with their angle grinders of choice as well. The result looks like a browser that's been heavily afflicted with malware, especially because the images start overlapping with the chat history to the right.
  • Killed Off for Real: Wabuu, at the end of Dingos Inferno. Not that being dead means he can't still screw with Felix — in the Anastasia review, his Silly Will leaves one last Dingo Pictures movie for am exacperated Felix to review...
  • Large Ham: Basse in Basses Rätt i Skafferiet, as well as most of the cast of Mystikhörnan (bar Leffe - and even he tends to pull very strange faces when surprised).
  • Lethal Chef: Basse invokes this in Basses rätt i Skafferiet by adding ingredients nobody likes (such as a cake full of insects) and/or don't gel together well at all.
  • Malicious Misnaming:
    • In the review of Pochahontas, Felix calls Dingo Pictures "Dongo Pongo", among a few other names.
    • Hercules from Dingo Pictures gets called "Herr Kukless" (Mr Cockless) at one point.
    • Downplayed in Mystikhörnan. In a flashback, Leffe tells Morgan that he doesn't want to be called that, yet Morgan insists on doing that over the course of three seasons; the nickname itself isn't malicious, but the fact Morgan keeps using it against Leffe's wishes (and usually while telling him to shut the hell up) is.
  • Mid-Review Sketch Show: Felix Recenserar does this occasionally, such as in his review of On the Loose (where he acts out a fake ad for an industrial gymnasium course using footage both of himself and the film in question).
  • Nausea Fuelinvoked: Basses Rätt i Skafferiet takes this trope and runs a marathon with it, with the sight of people spitting food out (with or without saliva) being a selling point.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: Whenever a weird editing bit of a movie occurs, either Felix says or a text will show up on screen reading "No, we did not re-edit this".
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Basse's actual name is Sebastian, and Macke is a common nickname for people called Marcus, but they are only referred to as such during credits.
  • Pun-Based Title:
    • Basses Rätt i Skafferiet is one: it's a spoof on the name of the Swedish children's rights organization Barnens Rätt i Samhället. Both share the same acronym and use the word "rätt", but with different meanings.note
    • Felix Recenspelar is a pun on "Felix Recenserar" and the word "spelar", which is Swedish for "plays".
  • Roger Rabbit Effect: The Djurens konung and Anastasia reviews as well as Dingos inferno features animated Dingo Pictures-characters interacting with Felix (and in Anastasia's case, Basse). Subject to a bit of Stylistic Suck, as they're only in the same frame a few times during the review, and the characters are characteristically poorly-animated.
  • Running Gag: As Felix and Basse are fond of using Call Backs to previous episodes, some turn into outright running gags with time. And they do this a lot:
    • In Felix Recenserar:
      • Saying that the movie ends before it actually does, then cutting to the credits with Push it to the Limit playing in the background (harking back to the very first episode).
      • Felix often brings up his love for Swedish celebrity Harald Treutiger.
      • Explaining plot holes in the reviewed movies using off-the-wall theories, which may get questioned by Basse.
      • Komo's death scene appears very frequently in Felix Recenserar, to the point that it was one of the main running gags before Felix had actually seen the movie in the first place.
      • Playing "I Will Remember You" by Sarah Mclachlan over an "obituary" for a character who dies in the movie was a common gag in the early years.
      • The phrase "it starts with a cigarette, right", which makes fun of movies that utilize Scare 'Em Straight. It's often accompanied with a purple, contrasted filter and dramatic music, and may or may not be followed up with the outlandish consequences of smoking said cigarette.
      • In the Julekalender reviews, Felix will wear the same shirt for the first 23 episodes, only changing to another for the last episode. This may or may not be lampshaded.
      • While reviewing films by Dingo Pictures, Felix has a tendency to re-use the clip of a nun from their take on Hunchback of Notredame saying "vanskapt apa" (misshapen ape) to describe other Off-Model characters.
      • Felix appears fond of calling groups of characters "grabbarna grus"note , especially when the protagonists and their friends have done something dumb (such as Tsatsiki and his friends breaking into a closed swimming pool in Tsatsiki: vänner för alltid).
    • In Basses Rätt i Skafferiet:
      • Mustard powder almost always finds it way into the recipe.
      • The word "skvättika"translation shows up a lot.
      • There are also many mentions of "the concentrated/copyrighted BRIS taste", a taste so fundamentally disgusting that it prompts reactions like spitting or gagging.
    • In their various Vlog series:
      • Every time they stay in a hotel room on tour, Felix always seems to end up with the worst bed.
      • In their 2019 summer tour Vlog series, there was a recurring joke where they would call out various brand names they spotted in public only to clarify that they are not sponsored by said brands.
    • The crew likes to joke that Macke either has been or is currently being eaten by wolves to lampshade his tendency to not appear in the channel's videos for certain stretches of time.
  • Self-Deprecation: Appears frequently, especially in Felix Recenserar:
    • The members are from Scania, the southernmost county in Sweden. Naturally, this is brought up time to time: through joking around with stereotypes about Scanian people, exaggerating their Scanian accents, or jokingly claiming they're not Swedish at all just because Scania used to belong to Denmark:
Felix: "The guys live in Helsingborg, and their main hobby is going to Denmark and beating up Danish people. They don't have to go to Denmark to beat up Danish people, they could just beat up each other instead!"
    • They also bring up their old videos in this manner.
Felix: "Wow" is a word that you really need to deliver well when you say it. I'm glad I've never had this problem!
Felix from an early episode of Felix Recenserar: Waooooow!
    Felix: Or wait, nevermind.
  • Shout-Out: Mystikhörnan's third season has one to Daniel Lehmussaari's I vädurens skugga (which they also reviewed sometime during filming) when a mook goes through unrealistic death throes filmed from a very similar angle. (In the "Making of" video they mentioned they were pleasantly surprised about how many people got the reference.)
  • Shown Their Work: When it wants to, Felix Recenserar can actually be very educational. Most episodes will have Felix explaining the backstory for the film, and depending on the movie at hand, the backstory can have very interesting tidbits about Swedish culture and film history. Given you know the language, Felix Recenserar is probably the best resource on Swedish culture a foreigner could ever ask for.
  • Silly Will: True to form, Wabuu's will is not the most serious of documents — among the things he leaves to this friends are "a good beating" and "Your Mom." The only ones who actually get something tangible are Wüschel, who gets some canned nuts Wabuu found at a garbage dump ten years ago... and Felix, who gets a copy of the movie Anastasia to review.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Felix in Felix Recenserar, as a reaction to especially frustrating movies, and to a lesser extent in unscripted videos as well. This occasionally gets lampshaded by the crew, especially when discussing how parents of their fans occasionally will show up to fan meetings and ask if they could tone the swearing down.
  • So Bad, It's Goodinvoked: Felix argues that Danne Lehmussaari's films, Evil Ed, and Hata Göteborg all fall under this. He also believes that this is why his old review of Hip hip hora remained his most viewed video for many years afterwards:
Felix: ... But wait a minute, maybe that's what's funny! [X-files theme starts playing] Nobody who watched this was actually laughing at my jokes, but at how goddamn bad our video was! At least I hope so, 'cause then there's at least some hope for humanity left.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance:
    • The soundtrack for Tahkorerna IV is mostly beach party remixes, with the climax having It's Raining Men playing in the background in the original version.
    • In Maffix, the very first film that Felix ever wrotenote , Las Ketchup is playing during an action scene.
  • Staging an Intervention: At the beginning of the review for Sune i Fjällen, Felix gets confronted by his friends who tell him that he can't avoid reviewing the movie any longer and eventually has to do it, especially since almost every second comment on YouTube was "When will you review Sune i Fjällen?".
  • Take That!:
    • Mystikhörnan as a whole is one giant Take That towards conspiracy theorists; not only does the series question its own plotholes and the logical fallacies in these theories all the time, but the second season culminates in a Gainax Ending where the plot holes manifest into a physical one which the protagonists get sucked into, which takes them out of the Show Within a Show.
    • Felix owns a mug saying "Helena Bergström's tears", which he has occasionally sipped from in videos.
    • The Basses Rätt i Skafferiet episode where Basse makes ice cream has this gem:
Johan: If the popsicle is Bert Karlsson, then the fish ice cream is Satan himself.
Basse: But they're the same person!
    Everyone in unison: Oooooooh!
  • Take That, Audience!:
    • In every episode of Mystikhörnan featuring Morgan's Frågelåda, at least one of the questions brought up is when the next episode of Felix Recenserar will be released. Morgan reacts negatively to seeing this question and will often accuse Leffe of putting in nonsense questions. (Despite this, their review of Sune i fjällen includes a screenshot where Morgan asks when the review is coming out.)
    • The sketches in the Felix Recenserar episode on Beck are this to viewers who are fans of the movies Felix reviews and/or have ridiculously high expectations on Felix Recenserar.
  • Thing-O-Meter: Used a few times in Felix Recenserar. In the reviews of Tusen Gånger Starkare, Tsatsiki, Farsan och Olivkriget, and Samson & Sally a Message-O-Meter is used, and in the review for Camp Slaughter, a Fat Joke-O-Meter is used.
  • Toilet Humor: Though not often, it does occasionally happen in Basses Rätt i Skafferiet.
Basse: We have now recreated the stomach contents of the average Swede the day after Christmas. Though it's more gooey, so you have to imagine it's the average Swede, but with diarrhea.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In earlier episodes of Felix Recenserar, Felix is noticeably more cynical and aggressive, to the point of being somewhat pretentious. Since around late 2013, he's gradually mellowed down, and his videos from ca. 2016 onwards have a much kinder tone to them.
  • Totally Radical: The reviews occasionally joke about this in cases where the film creators really tried too hard to make their teen characters hip. When Basse and Felix Let's Played Atlantis III, they also went into hysterics over the game's villain using the phrase "jämrans osis!"note  and even made it the episode title.
  • Wham Episode: S1E07 of Mystikhörnan qualifies, as it ends with the Demon King Baram betraying Morgan and Kenneth mysteriously disappearing, and presumed dead. From this episode on, it's apparent that this is no longer a lighthearted jab at conspiracy theories, but a story taking place in a Crapsack World where not only are Morgan's theories true, but the reptilians are pursuing him because of his studies. (They still play this for laughs, though, just with a few more touches of Black Comedy.)
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Didactic?: Played for laughs in-universe in the review of The Grief: Felix comes up with a theory that Norah is Sarah's alter ego, and keeps bringing up evidence for it and praising Danne for how deep the movie is, but then he remembers that he's reviewing a Danne Lehmussaari film.
Felix: I've got to say that I'm really impressed. I thought I knew everything about Danne, but he just exceeded all of my expectations. Daniel Lehmussaahri is a genius! The Grief is a masterpiece with amazing imagery, and a script that's-
[Cut to Eddie complaining about having to shit in an outhouse]
Felix: Wait, nevermind! How could I for even a second think that there was any sort of subtext in a fucking Daniel Lehmussaahri film? Forget all that crap I said, there's no depth at all, and everything's meant to be taken literally! Couldn't Danne just thought a little more when writing the script, and not made a cliche fucking slasher film? Couldn't he have thought a step further, and actually made something that was unique in any sense of the word?
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?invoked: Felix goes into this during Djurens konung. Both during Första intrycket and the review proper, Basse and Felix joke that the film's aesop is that Democracy Is Bad and the jungle is best ruled by an authoritarian dictator, based on the clever snake quoting Karl Marx and other politicians, and how the king taking back the throne is seen as a good ending. The review also points out that the villain called Bokassa easily could be a reference to Jean-Bédel Bokassa, who ruled over the Central African Republic for a few years in the 1900s until a coup. Of course, this being a Dingo Pictures film, one can never be sure if any of these allegories was intentional on the film-makers' part.
