The story of the three godsnote
Shisaku Hokuo Shinwa(New Reading Norse Mythology) also known as "Edda" is a japanese webcomic meant to adapt Norse Mythology into a shounen type manga for simplism and entertainment's sake.

A young frost thurs named Vakr was born in the primordial world and lived there with his younger brother Vili, his older half brother Bergelmir, his father Borr and uncle Mímir. Vakr was bullied by Bergelmir and abused by Borr due to being born with weak magic but he was still determined to keep Vili safe. The brothers met and became friends with a mountain thurs named Vé and with encouragement from Mímir, went to Ginnungagap hoping to get more magical power. They accidently woke up Ymir and triggered the rebirth of the world.

Such is the story of Odin, Hoenir, and Loki, the three gods of the genesis, and how their realm of Asgard came to be. 30 after the event Odin has taken multiple wifes and is still working hard on fortifying the realm with his brothers, but gets told by the norns that their world will eventually come to an end. Frantic, Odin resolves to keep up the work and make Asgard the mightiest realm, even if it means having to go to war.

The manga is written by Takashi sightow and published on the website Melcolon. In November 2020, the series released its first volume.

Tropes applying to Edda:

  • Abusive Parents: Borr, who abused both his sons in more ways than one.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: For Odin and Hoenir, it is that their magic is naturally weaker than most thursar making them easy targets. For Loki, it is his hermaphroditism that got him kicked out of his village.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Played with; Loki identifies as a man, but since he is a hermaphrodite and has both male and female characteristics, he can appear as either more manly or more feminine when he desires.
  • Approval of God: The official site Melcolon has a Link to this very page.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Borr. Later on Odin.
  • Big Brother Attraction: Possibly Loki is very clingy around Odin. Then again it also just be that he doesn't want to lose his only family.
    • Ódr's younger foster sister Lofn is stated to be attracted to him.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Berserkr. A thurs channels all the mana in their body to temporarily increase their physical strength, agility, visual acuity, and vitality. If used for too long it can be dangerous and can give younger thursar permanent damages and is therefor not allowed in Asgard.
  • Everybody Wants the Hermaphrodite: Men and women of Asgard alike find Loki attractive, both due to his looks and cheerful personality.
  • Everyone Is Related: When Mimir asks what Vakr means when he says "family", he tells his nephews that all thursar descend from Ymir in someway.
  • Facial Markings: All thursar have markings that run along their bodies. They're different among each kind of thurs. A thurs born with weak magic however, has no visible markings until they use a lot of power.
  • The Fair Folk: Vanir.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Multiple for those who know enough about the myths.
    • First and foremost, Odin will fail to stop Ragnarok, and he will be the first to die.
    • Mímir is going to get his head cut off, but it will be revived.
    • Bergelmir survived the flood with the girl he saved.
    • Loki's relation with his brothers and overall reputaion is going to sour.
    • Sigyn and Odin will divorce she will marry Loki.
    • Hödr will go blind.
  • Happily Married: Odin and his wives.
    • His first wife Sigyn is loving and dutiful. But given that she is known for being Loki's wife it's safe to say that it won't last.
    • His second wife Rindr calls him a weakling while they train but otherwise they are happy together.
    • His third wife Jörd is happy to be married to him, however she tends to get over affectionate.
  • Incest Is Relative: The Vanar practice incest. So much so that they all nearly look identical.
  • Loving Bully: Rindr, who calls Odin weak yet still has her tender moments with him.
  • Mind over Matter: The most basic magic is psychokinesis which has many advantages, such as lifting heavy stuff while building or levitating and throwing weapons. Hödr has mastered that technique.
  • Missing Mom: Bestla, the mother of Vakr, Vili, and Bergelmir, died before the series began.
  • Nephewism: Mimir has looked out for Vakr and Vili, and took care of Vé too after the rebirth of the world.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Thor, Odin's third son, is only a baby but is still strong enough to knock down his father.
  • Polygamy: Odin is married to three women at the same time who seem to get along. However Jörd tends to get jealous.
  • Post-Rape Taunt: A thurs that had raped Lofn and Sjöfn mocks their brother Ódr about it.
  • Power Glows: All thursar have body markings that differ from type. Whenever they tap into their greatest potential, their markings glow. This is a hint to Borr's bizarre nature. His markings glow all the time meaning he has to be using seidr constantly.
  • Rape as Drama: Zig-Zagged: All the women kidnapped from Glitnir were raped as soon as they came to the enemy camp, including Ódr's younger sisters. However once they're rescued they don't seem to be too disturbed by it and it is mostly Ódr who is upset.
  • Really Gets Around: Odin and Loki, naturally.
  • Shown Their Work: The timeline on the official site separates the years into summer and winter, this is because the ancient nordic people only had those seasons, spring and fall not being a thing until christianity began seeping in.
