Go To

The "Nice Kaachan AU" is a series of comics made by CharlotteNorris on Tumblr. The hotheaded hero-in-training Katsuki Bakugo runs afoul with a villain with an amnesia quirk, erasing his memories and leaving him as a timid and friendly figure. With not even Eraserhead quirk able to restore them, the only option is to wait 2 weeks until his memories return.

Nice Kaachan contains examples of:

  • Amnesiac Dissonance: Amnesiac Katsuki becomes horrified when he realizes how cruel and merciless his original self is.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Kirishima is absolutely furious when he learns that Mineta is the reason Katsuki found out the truth. The next time we see Mineta, he has a broken arm and leg and is suddenly very apologetic.
Mineta: Hey, Bakugou looks a little off. What happened?
    Kirishima: YOU! IT WAS YOU!!!
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: The reason Mineta is banned from hanging out with Amnesiac Katsuki. He ends up proving everyone's point by telling him the harsh truth on purpose.
  • Disproportionate Retribution:
    • Mineta is left out from hanging out with the amnesiac Katsuki. In return, he shows Katsuki a video of how brutal and vicious he was during the Sports Festival.
    • When Katsuki finally returns to his regular self, the very first thing he does is try to hurt everybody else in the class for the great insult of being forced to be nice to them for a week. After a short Time Skip, it's mentioned that he had to be threatened with expulsion for him to stop.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!:
    • When Katsuki tries to apologize for what he did to Ochako during the Sports Festival, she stops him. Interestingly, this isn't out of frustration or malice, but rather because Ochako respects that Katsuki didn't hold back against her during the fight and that in the end, it motivated her to become a stronger hero.
    • When Katsuki regains his memories, he considers the rest of the class being friendly to him and helping him through a Heroic BSoD while he was an amnesiac an insult worth trying to kill them all.
  • Freudian Excuse: Mineta implies at the end that he was upset over not being able to hang out with Bakugou because he already has so few friends to begin with. Bakugou, having learned how he was before his amnesia, is quick to understand how that feels.
  • I Hate Past Me: The amnesiac Katsuki becomes borderline catatonic when he sees how much of a rageaholic his normal self is. He even asks the rest of 1-A how the hell can they even think of considering him a friend when he's like that.
  • Inside Joke: During the goodbye party, Katsuki, by a suggestion from Ochako, gives Shoto Icy-Hot Deodorant.
  • Jerkass: Pre-Amnesia Katsuki, obviously, but Mineta is given an uptick in dickery too, going so far as to show the nice version of Katsuki what his old self was like out of spite for not getting to hang out with him. At least Katsuki had the decency to have a couple legitimate nice moments after reverting. While Mineta does end up apologizing, it's only after Kirishima gives him a piece of his mind for it.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Lighter and Softer version — Katsuki finally goes back to normal in the middle of his nicer self giving a farewell speech and immediately starts attacking and screaming that the rest of the class is going to die because of treating him nice.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Kirishima really lets Mineta have it when he learns about what he did to Katsuki. The next time we see Mineta, his arm and leg are in a cast.
  • Noodle Incident: The encounter with the villain with the Quirk that turned Katsuki into a nice guy happens off-screen and for the most part exists just as a Handwave (the villain only gets a bare-bones explanation of their Quirk and that is that).
  • Official Couple: Though they don't get together in the end, Katsuki is warmer to Ochako even after regaining his memories.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • During the party for Katsuki's goodbye, Mineta gives him an apology letter for revealing his past self, feeling that he himself wasn't allowed to be friends with Katsuki and the others. Katsuki happily accepts with a hug.
    • Even after regaining his memories and returning to his Jerkass persona, Katsuki is still under the influence of his nice amnesiac self, giving Izuku his new hero note his other self intended to give after threatening him not to speak how he was before.
  • Was It All a Lie?: After learning what he was like pre-amnesia, Katsuki pleads with the rest of Class 1-A to tell him if anything they said about how "nice" he is was true. They end up having to confirm that no, it was not.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: Explored. Kirishima doesn't want the jerk back, while Izuku is utterly afraid of Katsuki because he knows the jerk will come back and doesn't want to give him reasons to try to hurt him in revenge for being nice to him for a couple of days. Mineta's scheme with the video can be seen as either trying to traumatize the amnesiac Katsuki (which he accomplishes for a while) or trying to make the jerk come back with a vengeance.
