Vigilant
is a 12-episode web series that chronicles the rise of bumbling Watchdog, a zero-turned-hero who becomes a vigilante on a drunken whim.
Wayne, AKA Watchdog, tries to find meaning in his life through vigilantism. With the help of cynic friends and two hardened street vigilantes, Wayne faces challenges each harder than the last, from stopping a mugger to interrupting a gang war. Will his incessant bumbling finally lead him to the challenge he can't walk away from?
Vigilant is made by Evil Iguana Productions LLC. They have currently released the first season and are writing the second.
Tropes include:
- Collateral Angst: Rita, a fully-fleshed character with a plot line, is gunned down to cause Wayne anguish (and promote character growth).
- Idiot Hero: Wayne is a failure in every aspect of his life, repeatedly testing fate. And yet, he is the central protagonist of the show.
- Wide-Eyed Idealist: Somewhat subverted in that Wayne realizes the city is evil and needs a hero. However, Wayne believes that the vigilantes are the good guys, and is shocked from his idealism when V kills the man who killed her parents instead of turning him in to the police.
