turtlesandthomas's Day Off

The Thomas Wooden Railway Community is a section of YouTube made up of users who make videos dedicated to the Thomas Wooden Railway brand, a merchandising branch of the Thomas the Tank Engine series. The community has been active since 2007 and has been growing ever since. The most prominent type of video made by users within the community is their own Thomas Wooden Railway series, in which they create their own Thomas stories using the items, though reviews are also very popular. Each user who makes videos is a little bit different from one another, but they all build off of and interact with each other, giving the community a sense of continuity and togetherness.

The community's name is often abbreviated to The TWRC or The TWR Community.

The TWRC provides examples of:

  • Achievements in Ignorance: Lampshaded; the members often make things happen either through the "Magic of Video Editing" or simply by handwaving an explanation.
  • Angrish: Robert gets like this in streams a LOT.
  • Animal Motifs: Take a guess which animal turtlesandthomas is fond of.
  • Anticlimax: A lot of reviews with built-up, dramatic storylines end like this.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Just about everyone in the TWRC used to watch the other users when they were younger.
  • Berserk Button: Different ones for a lot of people.
    • For the community as a whole, it's criticizing them for "playing with baby toys".
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: turtlesandthomas is the living embodiment of this, as he almost always follows up his silence with an extremely blistering remark.
  • Big Bad: There are several of these for the users who utilize storylines within their reviews:
    • A mysterious figure with a clawed hand is currently acting as one of these for MPS's reviews, and as a Greater-Scope Villain for turtlesandthomas's reviews.
    • Advertisement:
    • Speaking of turtles's reviews, the current big bad is turtles' brother, thomasandturtles, who is trying to get home from Sodor.
    • For WoodenRailwayReviews's reviews, it's an evil Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Bizarro Universe: MPS and Eric's characters "Nega-Matt" and "Nega-Eric" are opposite versions of them, who love horrible items.
  • Butt-Monkey: EricPierre53 suffers from this quite often.
  • Call-Back: In Vinnie and Robert's crossover, Vinnie greenscreens himself into Robert's room. This joke is later reused in MPS and Vinnie's meet-up, and then reused **again** in Robert and Eric's meet-up.
  • The Cameo: A lot of the TWRC members make quick appearances in others' videos, usually for a quick laugh.
  • Canada, Eh?: Eric, Ted, and WRR are all proud to be Canadian.
  • Captain Obvious: turtlesandthomas's impression of Ted.
turtles (impersonating Ted): And he's Mike, and his name is Mike, and he's got a tender, and he's red, and he's got wheels, and his name is Mike...
  • Catchphrase:
    • "For over 20 years..."
    • "Grease and Oil!"
    • "Hello everyone, and welcome back", or some variation thereof, is normally how Robert opens his reviews.
    • "Do a crossover with me!"
    • "Check out my channel!", in a mocking manner.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: A lot of the members qualify as this, both in real life and in their videos. Ted especially is noted to be one.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Not typically in videos, considering the audience, but get some of the community members on Skype or Twitter and they'll be swearing like sailors.
    • On the Grease and Oil Podcast, Matt and Vinnie are swearing a mile a minute.
  • Comical Overreacting: Almost everyone in the community is an offender.
  • Credits Gag: In MilkTankerMedia's episode The Twilight's Last Gleaming, he lists MPS as the Caterer, turtles as the Makeup Designer, ThomasWoodenRailway as the Key Grip, and EnterprisingEngine93 as the Vice President of Puns in the credits.
  • Crossover: An absurd amount of these take place, to the extent that some users have even gone to different states and countries to meet up with other users.
  • Darker and Edgier: turtlesandthomas's Sudrian Conflict and some select episodes of Enterprising Engines! and MilkTankerMedia's series are this to the rest of the TWRC.
  • Dead Baby Comedy:
    • turtlesandthomas often utilizes this.
    • The Grease and Oil Podcast is practically built on this.
    • Some of Rob's streams veer into this.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Everyone in the community has had their moments, though special mention goes to ThomasWoodenRailway when he gets on Twitter, to the extent that turtlesandthomas, a masterful snarker himself, once called Keekre "vicious".
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": A lot of the members of the community prefer to be referred to by their screen names rather than their real names.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: EnterprisingEngine93, as it turns out, is rather short.
    • Totally inverted with Eric and turtlesandthomas, who look short on screen but are actually gigantic.
  • Fanboy:
    • Matt Twillman is one of German history.
    • MPS, LegoLover117, WoodenRailwayOnly, and MilkTankerMedia all are huge fanboys of comic books and comic book properties.
    • Eric and Ted are fanboys of Doctor Who.
    • turtlesandthomas is one of Gravity Falls and Breaking Bad.
    • MPS, Percyno6, and EnterprisingEngine93 are big fans of Pokémon.
  • Fountain of Memes: Surprisingly, the TWRC generates a ton of memes, especially WRR's streams.
  • Genius Ditz: All of them have their moments.
  • Improv: A large amount of turtlesandthomas's videos are improv.
  • Large Ham: Once again, just about every single person in the community qualifies, though special mention goes to Wooden Railway Reviews, especially during his live streams.
  • Medium Awareness: All of the reviewers are aware that they're characters in videos.
  • Motor Mouth: WRR can talk a lot.
  • Mundane Fantastic: Despite living in the normal world, turtles has a portal to Sodor itself, MPS has a highly advanced AI with missile capabilities, and EricPierre53 has a TARDIS, among other fantastical elements.
  • Nonindicative Name: Several examples.
    • HiroTheJapaneseTrain isn't actually a huge fan of Hiro.
    • MPS, formerly known as MrMPS2002, wasn't born in 2002.
    • LegoLover117 doesn't use Legos all that much.
    • turtlesandthomas does nothing involving or relating to turtles in any real capacity.
  • Old Shame: Jack, aka SirTophamHatt291. See Unperson below.
  • One Steve Limit: Completely averted, there are more people named Matt in the community than can be counted.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: ThomasWoodenRailway, Percyno6, and turtlesandthomas are the most blatant examples.
    • Inverted with WRR, who goes almost exclusively by "Rob" or "Robert".
  • Only Sane Man: Keekre and turtlesandthomas typically fill this role, though even they have their moments.
  • Padding: Played with, when Robert pauses the movie in his movie-watching streams to discuss it, MPS and several of the other commenters are often quick to call him out for "stalling", much to Robert's annoyance.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: This is typically the dynamic in crossover reviews, though it is especially noticeable in MPS's crossovers that he is the hyper, in-your-face one, while the other user is the straight man to his antics.
  • Running Gag: Oh so many, especially considering how many users are a part of the community.
    • The WELCOME STANLEY meme, though this is also shared with the larger Thomas the Tank Engine Community.
    • MPS's obsession with Baja Blast.
    • EricPierre53 and Oliver Duck's love of Doctor Who.
    • People trying to convince others to do crossovers.
    • ThomasWoodenRailway looking like Tom Cruise.
    • #BringBack2002
    • WRR taking 8 months to make reviews.
  • Schedule Slip:
    • WRR typically takes about 8 months to make new reviews, despite his best efforts.
    • EnterprisingEngine93 still hasn't released the finale of the second season of his series, over a year after he announced it.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: turtlesandthomas has done this a few times.
  • Self-Deprecation: Another brand of humor frequently used, though MPS and turtlesandthomas use this especially often.
  • Sensory Abuse: WRR shouts just about EVERYTHING in his livestreams.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": turtlesandthomas has often complained about all the different ways his username has been butchered.
  • Stoic: Oliver Duck and turtles, most often.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Mountain Dew Baja Blast for the community as a whole, though especially for MrMPS.
  • Troll: Oh yes, turtlesandthomas and MPS especially.
  • UnPerson: Jack aka SirTophamHatt291, who was a major member back in the community's earlier years, started stalking users and trying to find their personal information in early 2012. In response, the community rose up against him, forcing him to leave and quit YouTube. Nowadays, users who were around during those times barely speak of him and try to keep what happened low-key.
  • Verbal Tic: A lot of the users have these.
    • Percyno6 has a distinctive Wisconsin accent that is often mocked.
    • Eric tends to say "dude" quite a bit.
    • MPS says "Pretty good" or "Real good" a lot.
    • In the earlier days of his series, ThomasWoodenRailway had a tendency to use the word "disastrous" quite often.
  • Wanting Is Better Than Having: A lot people REALLY want the Troublesome Brakevan and the White Face Troublesome Truck, but the users who own them often say that they're cool items, but rather unremarkable.
    • Although it could be argued that that adds to their charm.

Can I have your Troublesome Brakevan?
