The Hydros Chronicles is a long-running (currently incomplete) multi-part BIONICLE fanfic video series created by scotttjt, also known as Toa Hydros, about a unique Toa named Hydros and his battle against the villainous Makuta Verahk. As the plot thickens and the cast of characters grows immensely, the scale of Hydros's conflict with Verahk becomes increasingly large in scale, spanning across multiple worlds and multiple dimensions.

Along with its fifty plus episodes, the series has side stories in the same vein as those from the original BIONICLE storyline, some written in prose, some in video form. It also has two spin-offs, Sands of Change, a prequel series about a mutated Skrall warrior named Verex and Society of Guardians, which while a direct sequel to Chronicles, lacks focus on the original protagonist and instead opts to alternate between various points of views.

The series is highly regarded among the BIONICLE fandom, especially in the nicknamed "Biotube" community on YouTube where it had inspired many copy-cat series that, like its inspiration, have yet to meet their conclusions. Scott was unable to conclude the storyline started in Chronicles due to personal issues, and the series as a whole has been left in a coma since 2013.

    The Hydros Chronicles
  • All There in the Manual: The videos have an abundance of annotations that provide notes and explanations behind specific lines of dialogue.
  • Author Avatar: Hydros, who is explicitly Scott's self-MOC.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Hydros vs Shados is this.
  • Big Bad: Makuta Verahk.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Hydros towards Shaza.
  • Big Good: Krataka, as he is the leader of the Society of Guardians.
  • Elsewhere Fic: Type 2. The main story's action eventually takes place in Karda Nui, around the same time the Toa Nuva are working to reawaken Mata Nui.
  • Enemy Mine: Several previous villains that appeared join forces with Hydros and friends to fight against Verahk.
  • Enemy Within: Hydros's dark side, Shados, is constantly fighting for control of Hydros's body, whether the Toa knew it or not.
  • Expy: Verahk is pretty much a carbon copy of Teridax.
  • Foreshadowing: During the final battle at Karda Nui, Verahk transforms into a form that is not unlike the mysterious being named Cordak. They are the same person.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Orriki, after having his inner light increased.
  • The Lost Lenore: Sayra to Hydros.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Hydros's allies when Shados takes control of his body and attacks them.
  • Opposite-Sex Clone: Pyra.
  • Playing with Fire: All the Toa of Fire, including Hydros and Moliki.
  • Revision: It's eventually revealed that Verahk is responsible for Teridax's mission to overthrow Mata Nui.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stable Time Loop: It's eventually revealed that Akatark, Skydrax, and Atukam are in fact time displaced Krataka, Scotho, and Orriki. Their manipulations and knowledge of coming events creates a loop that eventually leads to their displacement. Verahk was also caught in the event that transported the three into the past, where he was able to aid himself in gaining victories by foretelling his younger self about future events. But due to the time loop, Verahk was unable to actually score any wins that didn't already happen in his past.
  • Super Power Lottery: Hydros, along with his natural Fire powers, has control over Earth and Air. Later, it's discovered he can also shoot ice beams out of his eyes.
  • Those Two Guys: Moliki and Scotho.
  • Time Master: Akatark, who wears the Kanohi Vahi, the Mask of Time.
  • Wham Shot: Akatark transforming back into Krataka.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Verahk is consistently able to manipulate events into his favor when he needs to, even when he seems to be losing. This makes sense considering his future self had informed him of all these events.
    Society Of Guardians
  • Hand Wave: Certain characters didn't return? They refused to join the Society and got their memories wiped of their existence.
  • Sequel Series: A direct one to The Hydros Chronicles.
  • Ship Tease: Between Moliki and Pyra.
  • That Thing Is Not My Child!: Hydros's first reaction to Pyra, whom many consider to be his technical daughter.
    Sands of Change
  • Author Avatar: Verex, who is also Scott's self-MOC.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Verex, understandable considering his situation.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: The story takes place mainly on Bara Magna and focuses on the adventures of the mutant Skrall Verex in a smaller-scale story in contrast to the more epic-scope Hydros Chronicles.
