Welcome to your first day.

Karev: I told the nurses I want you on B-Team today.
Schmitt: Oh, that's... what's B-Team?
Karev: Well. If it's in a bedpan, you clean it. If it's in a barf bucket, you clean it. If it's blood, you clean it.

Grey's Anatomy: B-Team is a web series Spin-Off of the ABC Medical Drama Grey's Anatomy, following the interns at Grey Sloan Memorial during the parent show's fourteenth season. The short episodes look at a collection of new surgical residents on their first day at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, featuring the 2017/18 intern class. Two of these interns are familiar — Sam Bello, Andrew DeLuca's plucky ex, and Levi "glasses" Schmitt, the infamous former sub-intern who left in shame after dropping his glasses into an open body cavity in the OR and sleeping with Wilson. These two lead the rest of the small gang, interns who will later make larger appearances. It was directed by Sarah Drew, and released on the ABC streaming website in January 2018, during the Grey's mid-season break.

Starring Jeanine Mason as Sam Bello and Jake Borelli as Levi Schmitt.

Tropes in Grey's Anatomy: B-Team

  • Adaptation Expansion: There are many more interns seen in the web show than GA, though the main characters are still the ones who actually got named on there.
  • Book Ends: The first episode starts with the interns in the locker room and Bailey arriving to school them. The final episode ends this way, with the interns significantly more broken.
  • Butt-Monkey: Schmitt.
  • Call-Back: Schmitt referencing the time he slept with Jo once, to nobody's belief.
  • Call-Forward: Helm mentions how good Parker is with tech to get him to be put on discharge duty in hopes of getting a patient (it backfires on her), in the next shown episode of GA (14x09) Grey Sloan is still controlled by hackers but Parker appears conveniently and Bailey remembers his background in cyber security to send him off to work on that and he ends up being able to electrical override some of the door locks to get into the blood bank.
  • The Cameo: Several of the long running GA doctors appear to scowl and/or yell at the interns.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Webber congratulates one intern on being surprisingly well organized and offers to keep her on his service for practice. She starts thanking him but then slips into hero worship of Meredith instead. When she starts screwing up, Webber sarcastically suggests giving her to Meredith instead. He obviously meant it as a joke about just getting rid of her, but she squeals in excitement at the prospect.
    Qadri: Really?!
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: The interns experience having to swab puke and run after every patient in need of resuscitation (though that was actually a reward) dependent on the attendings' moods.
  • Double-Meaning Title: The interns being second to the A-Team of the more advanced surgeons, and the B-Team In-Universe referring to the intern scut that begins with the letter B.
  • Exact Words: Bailey implies that one of the interns might get to scrub in on a surgery on their first day, and despite being told otherwise they all are still anticipating come the end of the shift. Bailey explains how she actually said they would have an opportunity to prove themselves worthy to scrub in and this didn’t guarantee being allowed to. They complain about being played, with Schmitt pulling the “well technically she didn't say...” line for comedy as he is then ratted on/groaned at by the rest of the class.
  • Famed In-Story: Levi Schmitt is actually this, as soon as Sam starts to tell the story of his glasses falling off in surgery the year before, the other interns are surprised and start calling things like “you're glasses?” and “that was you?!” They seem to be kind of proud of him, or at least excited to be actual friends with someone who has gossip about them at the hospital.
  • Gilligan Cut: One intern tries sucking up to Maggie and charming her Seen It All patient to get a surgery, proudly announcing he can handle anything. The patient then loses heart and saturation signal, and the intern completely freezes. He gets rewarded by being put on Code Team for the day.
  • Lighter and Softer: It is a comedy, and none of the main cast die.
  • Living Legend: Meredith Grey, who is worshipped by Qadri pretty much every time she gets to speak. Justified since she's the title character of the show this was spun out of.
  • Mythology Gag: Schmitt is less of the butt monkey later in GA S14 than he was as a sub-i. However, on the web show he gets reinstated to this role for the funny.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Schmitt retains the nickname “glasses” after dropping his glasses inside a body he was operating on.
  • Social Circle Filler: The small group of interns with lines are talking to each other, an attending appears and suddenly so do several dozen other interns from nearby-offscreen.
