"are you happy or are you not sad?"

Gabbie Hanna (born February 7, 1991) is an American Internet personality, singer-songwriter and author. She rose to prominence on Vine and later YouTube before largely transitioning into a music career.

Hanna began her online career in late 2013 after leaving a previous sales job and creating an account on Vine under the name The Gabbie Show, where she gained around 5 million followers. The following year, she created a YouTube channel under the same name, eventually changing it to her real name in 2017 and then back to the original name in 2021.

She released her debut single, "Out Loud", in 2017, following it up with further additional releases during that year and 2018. Among them was "Monster", which became a meme following an interview on Genius' Verified where she sang the song a cappella, but her voice was not properly recorded due to technical errors. (She responded to this by creating merchandise with her singing face during the meme.)

The following year, Hanna released her debut EP, 2WayMirror. For a period of time afterwards, she peaked at #5 on Billboard's Top Emerging Artists chart. Her second EP, Bad Karma, was released in 2020. Her debut album, Trauma Queen, was released in 2022.

Hanna also appeared in two seasons of Escape the Night, co-hosted MTV's Total Request Live in 2017, and won the fourth season of the dance competition web series Dance Showdown with partner Matt Steffanina. She has also released two poetry books — Adultolescence (2017) and Dandelion (2020) — that both became New York Times bestsellers.

Hanna has been involved with a number of controversies during her time online. In 2015, a video accusing her of stealing jokes went viral on Reddit. In 2017, she accused YouTuber RiceGum of physically assaulting her at a party. Hanna claimed that he twisted her arm, scratched her, and smashed her phone; RiceGum denied hitting her but did admit to breaking her phone, also stating that he sent her money for a new one. This was reportedly the result of Hanna goading RiceGum to take part in a rap battle, since he was known for his diss tracks and was rumored at the time to use a ghostwriter.

Hanna has also had public issues with YouTuber Trisha Paytas, with Paytas claiming that Hanna had told her then-boyfriend Jason Nash that she had herpes, which Hanna admitted to doing but out of concern for Nash rather than malice. She also feuded with Jessi Smiles, a fellow Vine-famous creator that she was friends with, after she alleged that she was raped by her then-boyfriend, another Vine-famous creator named Curtis Lepore. Hanna was accused of not supporting Smiles and being friendly with Lepore after the allegations were released, to which she insisted that she did not want to be associated with Lepore after the information came out.

In August 2022, the mental health of Hanna was the subject of mass attention and concern after she published hundreds of controversial posts on social media in a matter of days, including several where she claimed to be the second coming of Jesus.
