Dear Kristin is an Australian YouTuber known for her short sketches that are predominantly themed around the Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator.

Her channel uploaded its first video on May 23rd 2020 and has consistently uploaded videos on a regular schedule since then. The majority of her videos are comedy sketches, however she also uploads vlogs including the '16 Personali-teas' series and the 'Fi-days' series. Additonally, she has a second Youtube channel featuring a longer form podcast about MBTI.

Kristin performs alone in the vast majority of her sketches, although occasionally guests will appear on her channel, usually in the form of her friends or family.

Despite the stand-alone nature of her sketches, a series of running gags and other recurring elements have prompted fan speculation of a shared universe, jokingly referred to as the "Dear Kristin Cinematic Universe".

Tropes appearing in Dear Kristin:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: This is frequently the way sketches portray the EXFP characters.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Types known stereotypically for being nice will occasionally show a surprise dark side in the skits. ENFP, ESFJ, and INFJ are particularly susceptible.
  • Bottle Episode: Many sketches conform to this trope due to certain real life restrictions, such as Covid-19 lockdown or personal circumstances.
  • Break the Cutie: In "16 Personalities Interacting as Siblings", the longsuffering ISFJ considers making tea for the others with expired milk as revenge for them always excluding her from games.
  • Cassandra Truth: The INTJ tries to warn the ESFP that they're in a comedy sketch but it cuts to the credits before anything can be done.
  • Catchphrase: "Let's unpack that" is commonly associated with the ENFJ, although it's a catchphrase that frequently appears in other parts of the channel too.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: The ISFP frequently talks to trees and the ENFP is usually portrayed as chaotic and eccentric.
  • The Comically Serious: ISTJ’s main characterization.
  • Companion Cube: ISFP’s aforementioned trees. INFP characters have done this to everything from playground equipment to articles of clothing.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: The INTJ. This also results in the INTJ becoming the first character to gain Medium Awareness and almost breaks the fourth wall.
  • Continuity Nod: The past romantic relationship between Becky (the INFJ) and Brad (the ESTP) is frequently invoked in later videos.
  • Cuteness Proximity: In "16 Personalities Interacting at a Party" the ISFP sees a cat and spends the rest of the party with the cat.
  • Daydream Surprise: 16 Personalities in a Nature Documentary is revealed to be the ENFP’s daydream at the end.
  • Deadpan Snarker: ISTJ and ENTP are the main contenders (the former emphasizing the deadpan and the latter emphasizing the snark) but everyone gets a moment or two.
  • Determinator: The ESTP swipes left on the ENFP multiple times, but she keeps coming back begging him to change his mind.
  • The Ditz: The ENFP, and occasionally the ESFP
  • Drink-Based Characterization: All ISTP characters have an affinity for milk.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: Occasionally Kristin will upload sketches that are not about MBTI, such as "Dating After You've Been to Therapy".
  • Friend to All Living Things: The ISFP.
  • Fun with Subtitles: Many of Kristin's videos feature optional joke subtitles that often deliberately contradicts or parodies what is being said. The subtitles are also frequently the source of material leading to speculation about the Dear Kristin Cinematic Universe.
  • Gainax Ending: The ending to "16 Personalities Dating Their Opposite Type" ends unexpectedly with the INTJ realising they're in a comedy sketch.
  • The Gambler: The ESTP is frequently portrayed this way, as is occasionally the ENTP.
  • Girls with Moustaches: Kristin often dons a fake moustache or beard for many of her characters, most prominently in "16 Personalities as Philosophers".
  • Heroic BSoD: In "16 Personalities Through the Eyes of the ENFJ", this is the ENFJ's reaction to meeting an INTJ.
  • Hilarious Outtakes: At the end of several videos. Occasionally includes impromptu songs about filming difficulties.
  • Iconic Outfit: Jill (the ISTJ) and her beloved goggles.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The ISTP is shown to be this in "16 Personalities Giving Christmas Gifts".
  • Lonely Piano Piece: The INFP’s Leitmotif.
  • Medium Awareness: There is a running gag that the INTJ is aware that they are in a sketch. The ENTP later becomes aware and then in "16 Personalities Kidnapping Me" all of them do.
  • Opposites Attract: This may be the source of the romantic tension between Becky and Brad, given that they are opposite types.
    • This is also the theme of "16 Personalities Dating Their Opposite Types".
  • Pungeon Master: The ENFP and ESFP characters both qualify.
    • Kristin being an ESFP herself, it’s not surprising that she’s also fond of puns when out of character.
  • The Quiet One: All of the introverted types but the ISTP takes the cake… er… milk.
  • Rage Against the Author: "16 Personalities Kidnapping Me" is a perfect example of this, in which the 16 personalities characters kidnap the real Kristin and take her to task for only making them crude stereotypes of their various types.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Kristin lost her voice before filming "16 Personalities Writing Online Dating Profiles" so the video is entirely text based.
  • Record Needle Scratch: Employed quite frequently on various sketches. Examples include:
    • At the end of "16 Personalities Making 3 Wishes to a Genie" when the ENTP accuses the genie of not being a real genie
    • When the INTJ breaks the fourth wall and refuses to read from the script in "16 Personalities Through the Eyes of the ENTP".
  • Running Gag: There are multiple examples of this trope.
    • One example in the subtitled version involves a running gag in which ISTP becomes obsessed with milk.
    • The INTJ often gets cut off at the end, usually just before they're about to reveal something important.
    • The ISTJ is obsessed with cleanliness to the extent that they won't go outside unless they're wearing goggles.
  • Self-Deprecation: Kristin’s satire of her own type (ESFP) is just sharp as her satire of everyone else.
  • The Silent Bob: The ISTP seldom says more than a few words.
  • The Shut-In: Although many of the introverted types are portrayed this way, it's a particularly common portrayal of the INTP.
  • Smug Snake: ENTP, ESTP and ENTJ often appear this way but their heart of gold usually comes through.
  • Spell My Name With Two Is: There is no “E” in “Kristin”. She’d prefer you to remember that.
  • Spiders Are Scary: "16 Personalities Reacting to a Spider on the Wall" is centred around this theme.
    • It should be emphasised that Kristin is from Australia, where all spiders are scary by default.
  • Stock Footage: The end of "16 Personalities Turning 30" ends with a clip from Kristin's real life birthday party to represent the ESFP (which Kristin is in real life).
  • Teacher's Unfavorite Student: At the start of "16 Personalities at Parent-Teacher Conferences", it's clear that the ISTJ is this for the teacher.
    • Actually this seems to be the case for many of the teacher's students.
  • Thought Caption: Commonly appear in the thumbnails of various videos.
  • Umbrella Drink: The ESFP is almost always seen holding one. Frequently, so too is the ESFJ.
  • Unknowingly in Love: This is the INFJ's internal rationale for the INTJ's behaviour in "16 Personalities Around Their Crush".
  • Vacation Episode: There are two: "16 Personalities Staying in a Hotel" and "16 Personalities on Vacation".
  • Walking Disaster Area: The ENFP is commonly this trope, especially in "16 Personalities During a Fire Alarm".
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Pretty much all of the IXTX types have invoked this trope at one stage or another.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: The INFP constantly fluctuates between this and despair.
    • The ENFJ and ISFJ are also frequently portrayed this way.
  • Wishing for More Wishes: The ENTJ does this in "16 Personalities Making 3 Wishes to a Genie" which the genie is not impressed by.
Genie: "Yeah, there's always one of you and you're exactly the type."
