Crashy's Own Apocalypse: Rebooted contains examples of:
- Adaptation Expansion: The Darkness’ origins were never explained in the original Pibby, but here, it’s implied to have some connection to the Internet and generative AI in particular.
- Adaptational Badass: Being a fanwork of Pibby, this comes naturally. Characters from various child-friendly media are forced to fight for survival against corrupted versions of their friends.
- All There in the Manual: The channel's posts depict a number of additional details about the series, including diary entries from Pibby, messages from real world people seeing the effects of the Darkness, and snapshots of additional worlds Pibby and her allies have visited.
- And Now for Someone Completely Different: With every song that passes, the roster of survivors grows. Initially it’s just Pibby and Boyfriend, but grows to include Angel Gabby, Glep, Gregg and Bea, and more. Not to mention Pico and Kazooie, who managed to escape their home universes and are now off doing their own thing.
- Body Horror: The Darkness loves to employ this with its victims, with many of them having their limbs bent into unnatural angles as a side effect of their infection. Mr. Krabs’ corrupted form takes the horror a step further, with long, spindly appendages sprouting from his eyes that he uses like spider legs.
- Death by Adaptation:
- Alloy Boy and Melira were taken by the Darkness before the events of this series, leaving Pibby all on her own.
- Drop to the Deck (His Apocalypse Mix) sees both Squidward and Mr. Krabs fall to the Darkness unlike in the original; the former gets swept away by a wave of Darkness around the halfway mark of the song, and the latter got corrupted prior to the song’s events.
- In Medias Res:
- The series as a whole starts after Pibby has been fighting the Darkness for a while, and has already lost Alloy Boy and Melira.
- Arsenal’s prologue shows Pibby in the middle of escaping from a corrupted Peter Griffin, before finding a device that teleports her out of the Family Guy universe and into Friday Night Funkin'.
- Interdimensional Travel Device: Pibby has gotten her hands on Rick's portal gun, which she and her allies use as their primary way of travelling between universes to find survivors.
- Lotus-Eater Machine: Drop to the Deck (His Apocalypse Mix) implies this is how the Darkness prefers to keep its victims under its control. While Spongebob is corrupted, in his mind he’s just doing what he loves: making Krabby Patties. It isn’t until an injury from the real world manifests out of nowhere in his hallucination that he realizes something’s up… at which point the Darkness drops the facade and attempts to silence Spongebob by force.
- Speech Bubbles: Bea communicates through these during Drop to the Deck (His Apocalypse Mix).
- Too Dumb to Live: Boyfriend and Girlfriend, as usual. Neither of them realize the threat the Darkness poses until it’s already grabbed Girlfriend.
- Voice Grunting: Banjo and Kazooie speak like this, just as in their original game. Lampshaded by Pibby, who isn’t native to their world and can’t understand a word they say.
