Content SMP

Go To

Content SMP is a private modded Minecraft server run by a French modder named Doctor4t. The core aspect of Content SMP is the creation of new mods for use in the server itself, with several members being modders-many of whom often try to kill each other with the aforementioned new mods.

Content SMP contains examples of:

  • Alternate Universe: Part of the setting' lore. Noxintrus is a version of Luxintrus who died in the Freebird explosion. Later, Lux receives an anchor from an aquatic version of herself, dubbed "Nautilux".
  • An Arm and a Leg: Lux loses an arm after failing to kill Mouthpiece, Rat then makes a joke about her possibly losing a leg when they assemble the Funeral Ink mod.
  • Ascended Extra: Diansu. While starting as a minor character in many events, Diansu changed all of that by starting a war to take over spawn and claim it in the name of his nation Oceana-and later, after the Revolutionaries arrive, he dons himself Power Armor and turns himself into Diansu Invictus in order to reclaim his Nation and get revenge.
  • Battle in the Rain: Rat and Lux create a mod that forces the world into a Deliberately Monochrome, Blood Moon, rain of ink, and subsequently fight Winsweep and Nox to the death under it.
  • Berserk Button: Lux siding with RAT is this for Diansu and Nox.
  • Big Damn Heroes: RAT, unintentionally. He was planning to crash the Masquerade with an army of rats and ruin Winsweep's event-but when Winsweep started killing his allies, RAT's intervention made him the hero. He even assisted Lux, someone who was normally on bad terms with him, in saving the day.
  • Bookends: Rat and Lux’s friendship has this two-fold.
    • They actually start to be on good terms after Rat unintentionally saves everyone and crashes the Masquerade, and the last place they go together before confronting Winsweep and Nox was the abandoned Masquerade hall.
    • They later become legitimate friends when Rat extends an olive branch by making Lux the Anchorblade, Lux’s last act of friendship towards him before dying is punting him away from the blast zone with her Anchorblade
  • Break the Badass / Break the Haughty: Rat gets a full dose of this after he fails to kill Winsweep and gets Lux killed in his place. He ultimately states he’s a horrible person in the aftermath.
  • Boss Battle: Diansu Invictus styles himself after an ULTRAKILL boss, and subsequently has to get jumped in a 6v1 raid to get beaten.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Almost everybody on the Content SMP has done things with less-than-noble intentions. Rat and Winsweep are just the most upfront about their war crimes-and RAT at least seems regretful about some of them.
  • Character Development: Originally Rat was a selfish and borderline sociopathic person when the SMP started, causing several server-wide incidents and killing dozens of people dozens of times causally for his own (often disproportionate) goals such as. But after gaining Lux’s friendship and going through several Break the Haughty and Enemy Mine moments for the greater good, he eventually calmed down and gained a respect for and empathy for other people’s wills (i.e. convincing the server to vote on killing Winsweep or not, instead of letting Lux murder him on the spot) and lives Although….
  • Dark Secret: The last End Portal wasn't destroyed… which eventually becomes an Open Secret when Rat reveals it to trap his enemies in an alternate dimension
  • Deal with the Devil: The Mason made one long ago. Winsweep makes one as well with Mouthpiece. Diansu is also offered one, but he turns it down via projectile-boosting a fireball at Mouthpiece with his Cheirosiphon.
    • Later on Lux and Rat both make deals with Mouthpiece. Lux did in order to acquire power, Rat did in order to prevent Lux from getting perma-killed by Mouthpiece during their failed assassination of him.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: A major aspect of the server. One day, one of the players increasing the Netherite spawn rate without telling the Admin. Things... Escalated from there.
    • RAT blew up an entire airship to get rid of the ghost haunting the server. This led to Winsweep gaining power and later trying to kill everyone in the Masquerade-which had Rat inadvertently saving the day and casting Winsweep out. And things spiraled from there.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Mouthpiece. Also, the mysterious El.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Diansu cares deeply for Nox, and it's implied he sees them as a surrogate child. Furthermore, he was very close to the Mason-and it's implied that he's never been able to move on from their death.
    • Jury’s out on how evil Rat is at any given moment, but if subscribed to the idea that he is a full Villain Protagonist in his POV then he enters this trope with Astron and Lux, his two only real friends on the server.
  • Evil Twin: Noxintrus. Technically an alternate version of Lux who was killed in the Freebird, later brought into the main universe by Mouthpiece, but he fills the role of a darker twin to Lux.
  • Face Death with Dignity: When facing down Lux and her Charter Weapon, Diansu doesn't bother to fight back against Charter or beg for his life: he simply makes a speech about the indomitable spirit of his faction Oceana, roars "LONG LIVE OCEANA!!!" And starts laughing maniacally as the Charter blade comes down.
  • The Ghost: The End is turned into a location version of this, with only 3 portals on the server, 2 being destroyed and the last being turned into a portal to a pool themed liminal horror Prison Dimension. RAT Justifies it with his theory that reaching The End means a server's days are numbered and that everyone will eventually leave the server and stop playing. This doesn't stop the server from having a single Chorus Fruit farm near spawn though.
  • Gone Horribly Right: RAT blew up the Freebird to kill the ghost haunting the server. It worked-but the entire server came after him and killed him in revenge, and sent him into hiding until he was able to return during the Masquerade.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: The Masquerade. It starts off well for Winsweep, but then RAT arrives and kills Winsweep with an army of rats, reclaiming his place on the server and sending Winsweep into exile.
    • Talon's End Dust debut; his attempt to protect the server instead put them in danger via spooky ghost-things.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Downplayed example. When Mouthpiece offers him a deal, Diansu tells them that he knows Lux would never make a deal with them; however, the end of the video reveals that she did, in fact, make the deal.
  • Killed Off for Real: The Charter Mod possesses the power to do this, permakilling any character killed by it and banning their players. Its first casualty is The Mason, by Rat (Albeit inadvertently). Later Zombie Dwarf and Voidable, by a vengeful Winsweep.
    • Diansu is later permakilled as well-this time by Lux.
    • A few weeks later Lux herself dies from a Charter-Style bomb
  • Last of His Kind: Mouthpiece claims that Lux is this. Admittedly, we don't know how much of what Mouthpiece says is true, but they also have no reason to lie.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: All the YouTubers involved in this SMP are playing up their jerkass moments and hostility to each other than they actually have in real life. RAT and Winsweep in particular are shown to be good friends in non-SMP videos, with a noticeable example in the doctor4t video after the events of Free-Bird where Rat is testing explosive ideas, when he decides to mail pipe bombs to everyone in the server. Winsweep can't help but laugh when he gets killed that way, something he'd likely be furious about if the video had everyone still in-character.
  • My Death Is Only The Beginning: The Mason tries to warn Rat about this before the latter kills him. Rat doesn't listen-and predictably, The Mason's death unleashes something terrifying onto the server.
    • Diansu's death is shaping up to be this as well.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Luxintrus, after being forced to betray RAT by Nox and Diansu. Later has this sentiment after permakilling Diansu Invictus.
  • Necromancer: Luxintrus becomes this, reviving Wardens to get revenge on Winsweep and later using an array of ink creatures to trap Diansu Invictus and keep him from flying around the arena.
  • No Immortal Inertia: RAT is subjected to a version of this involving food rather than age. When trapped outside the world border after surviving the Lesser Divinity, RAT can't die but is still losing hunger and gets close to the world border at low health, requiring him to eat tropical fish in order to not instantly die of hunger damage and potentially have to walk millions of blocks back to where he died just to get his stuff back.
  • Person as Verb: Well, more of a "Transport as Verb", but the players often refer to events made to kill a bunch of people as a Freebird situation, referencing how Rat used the Freebird airship to kill a bunch of people.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: When Blake and Rat have their standoff at the Masquerade event, Rat says this before spawning in his Swarm of Rats:
Rat: Okay, consider this a counter-rattack!
    • Lux gets a chilling liner before attempting to kill Nox during their final duel.
Lux: Tell me how to get Rat out of that [barrier], right now.
Nox: I’m not you giving the item! I’m not giving it to you, I’m not. I’m not allowing you to save him, I’m not.
(Beat passes as thunder sounds, Lux quick draws her crossbow and attacks Nox)
  • Prison Dimension: RAT's solution to keeping the fact that he didn't destroy the last End Portal a secret: he traps Winsweep and Noxintrus (as well as Talon so he can test for bugs and also partially because of the End Dust incident) in a Liminal Horror/Thalassophobia Dimension with no guidance on how they can survive and escape.
  • Sanity Slippage: Yet another common occurrence on the server. Best shown with Winsweep and Diansu in their videos.
    • Winsweep is the most notable victim of this. He makes a Deal with the Devil, permakills two players and goes on a murder spree with Diansu to help the latter reclaim Oceana, just to get revenge on Lux for the aforementioned Warden incident.
  • Serial Escalation: Content SMP might as well be called "Serial Escalation: the Server".
  • Shout-Out: Many to BreakingBad in Talon's End Dust video.
    • Much of Diansu's arsenal is inspired by Ultrakill-from the Cheirosiphon, which has an enchantment that allows one to projectile-boost their fireballs, to the Invictus Armor, which effectively turns him into a Gabriel-esque bossfight.
  • Skewed Priorities: During the End Dust incident where everyone is getting attacked by End spectre demon things as an unforeseen consequence of using the End Dust, all Moriya can ask Talon is:
Moriya: Do you have any more?
  • Unreliable Narrator: Everyone is to some extent, but most prominent in Winsweep's videos.
    • The greatest example would be when referring to the Free-Bird Incident, the main event that made Winsweep hate Rat’s guts. While it was meant to simply kill Mouthpiece who was haunting Rat, and everyone else who got hurt was unfortunate collateral, Winsweep sees the incident as Rat attempting to kill off the entire server for his own sadism.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Diansu is outright stated to be this, with him not being good at PvP but having access to overpowered gear such as the Invictus Armor to make up for it.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The Mason/Arathain, when he increased the Netherite spawn rates.
  • Voice of the Legion: Diansu Invictus.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Winsweep believes that he's doing the right thing by taking over the server from Doctor4t and punishing all of RAT's allies. At first, anyway.
  • You Got Murder: In a non-canon video, RAT added pipebombs to Minecraft just so he could mail them to other players.
  • You Killed My Father: Rat killed The Mason, who was Luxintrus's adoptive father. She later forgives him for this after seeing RAT's regret and willingness to change- but Nox and Diansu are not as forgiving.
