How could you not fall in love with that smile?

Charlie McDonnell, a YouTube vlogger and band member of Chameleon Circuit, operate the channel charlieissocoollike. It can be found here. The channel is notable for being the first UK-based YouTube channel to reach one million subscribers, on June 15th, 2011. She announced the end of her YouTube channel in December 2018 and moved on to screenwriting and producing for television.

On October 6th 2022, Charlie came out as trans, stating that she now uses she/her pronouns. She has since returned to YouTube for periodic uploads, and also regularly streams on Twitch.

Tropes used by charlieissocoollike:

  • Don't Explain the Joke: After Mr. Information gives false information about the five senses and Charlie gives the correct information...
Charlie: Mr. Information? Ha. More like... Miss Information. (Beat) Get it? See, I am calling him a woman, but at the same time, he gave you misinformation, so it's like a... (to Mr. Information, who he has just punched) What do you think of that.
Mr. Information: (weakly) That's a very clever pun, Charlie.
    Charlie: Thank you.
  • Downer Ending: The song "Bread" ends on a rather depressing note, with young Flora being forced to close her bakery after her products become so popular they cause an obesity epidemic in town, followed by her business partner stealing her recipes.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Evil Charlie decides to torture Charlie by... throwing water in her face!
  • Harmless Villain: "Evil" Charlie from "The Other Charlie":
Evil Charlie: Based on my personal level of evil, probably the best thing I can do at this point is, uhmm... uhh.... (looks through Evil Handbook of Evil) THROW WATER IN HIS FACE! That... that's horrible. I like that one!
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation:
    • In "Rhymezone", the speaker thanks the website for what they sometimes view as poor imagination, also criticising themself for their dependence on it to a small degree.
    • "A Song About a Song", where the speaker mocks themself for not being imaginative and lampshades the facts that they should really do a bridge, but cut the song short.
    • "Duet With Myself", where two sides of Charlie complain about each other. One side calls them insufferable, unbearably sunny, friendless, and tells them to take a knife to their head, while the other fires back about their lack of a love life and tells them they'll die alone making crappy YouTube videos.
  • Let's Duet: She somehow manages to do this alone and have a "Duel With Myself".
  • Madness Mantra: Parodied in one of her now-removed videos where she pretends to go mad over having barely any subscribers, continually chanting "subscribe" while playing an instrument until she passes out.
  • "Miss X" Pun: At one point, Charlie corrects Mr. Information. She then calls him "Miss Information", and immediately lampshades the pun.
Charlie: Mr. Information? Ha. More like... Miss Information. (Beat) Get it? See, I am calling him a woman, but at the same time, he gave you misinformation, so it's like a... (to Mr. Information, who he has just punched) What do you think of that.
  • Poster-Gallery Bedroom: Charlie covered a wall of her old bedroom with fan mail, calling it her "wall of stuff". It's gone through many iterations over the years.
  • Product Placement: Accidental, and lampshaded, in Magic Mars Bars.
"I just want to make it clear that Mars Bars aren't sponsoring me to make this video. I could've said the whole thing exactly the same with Twixes and it wouldn't have mattered, they're not paying me, I promise!"
  • Self-Backing Vocalist: Charlie produces a lot of her own music and therefore does a lot of backing vocals for herself.
  • Significant Anagram: From the "Coming Out" video: an anagram of "Artie Bloch" is Charliebot.
  • This Is a Song: A few of her songs are this:
    • "A Song About A Song":
Welcome to this song, which I wrote all myself
It's all about this song, which I did write
    • "The Birthday Song":
This is a song that I wrote you for your birthday
    • "A Song About Love":
This is a song about love!
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Charlie has an recurring fear of moths.

You have just had the almost ''imponderable'' joy of reading the Charlieissocoollike tropes page, which makes you, like, cool!
