Cameron Greely, also known as Cam Steady
and previously known as Video Game Rap Battles, is a YouTuber and rapper who makes rap videos. His most famous series is Video Game Rap Battles, which are rap battles between video game characters, inspired by Epic Rap Battles of History. He releases other rap videos, including rap cyphers and original rap songs.
Tropes:
- Alien Invasion: Nihilego's part in the "Ultra Beast Rap Cypher" has it trying to invade the human world, implicitly by possessing the viewer.Nihilego: The world we'll overrun! It's begun! The invasion swarming like a Trojan!
- Battle Rapping: Obviously, his Video Game Rap Battles series features video game characters in rap battles.
- Berserk Button:
- Slender Man becomes furious whenever he has to face off against a supposed horror game character that he considers nonthreatening.
- When Trevor Philips mocks Johnny Gat over Aisha's death, the latter threatens to have the former Buried Alive.
- When Tails refers to Luigi as "Green Mario," Luigi calls him a freak of nature and threatens to put have him put down.
- Boastful Rap: Many of his videos that aren't rap battles focus more on characters rapping about how great they are.
- Call-Back: The Pokémon rap cyphers in particular frequently has these.
- In the Pokemon Trainer Cypher, Red declares that he "can't defog but he's into Misty". In the Kanto Gym Leader Cypher, Misty opens her verse with "Yeah I know you're into me".
- Giovanni's verses in both the villain cypher and the Kanto Gym cypher open with "Who murders tracks while merkin' brats?"
- Blue's verses in both the Champion Cypher and the Rival Cypher opens with "It's that dude Blue".
- Also in the villain cypher, N is voiced by Zach B, who later references this in the Fossil Pokemon Cypher where he voices Archeops, who declares that he'll "go through it all like he did for N".
- Catchphrase: In the Pokemon cyphers, the Alolan characters always open their verses with "Aloha to the Alola", except for Necrozma, who closes its verse with it instead as an Implied Death Threat.
- Designated Girl Fight: "Princess Peach vs. Amy Rose", which is one of many battles between Mario and Sonic characters and features the main female characters in both series.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: Most of the channel's early videos were live action, while its later videos are usually animated.
- The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You:
- In the Sonic Villains cypher, Sonic.exe threatens to kill the viewer if they don't subscribe.
- In the "Ultra Beast Cypher", Nihilego implicitly wants to possess the viewer.
