BRYCE (Brandon Rogers) (Web Video)

BRYCE is a three part video series exploring the origins of the iconic Brandon Rogers character Bryce Tankthrust. It covers her childhood to her late thirties, unraveling just what made her into the haughty, magnificent megalomaniac she is today. The series was written by Brandon Rogers, Liam Krug and Adam Neylan, with Rogers playing the titular heroine herself.

Bryce is an ordinary girl who lives with her borderline insane and delusional shopping addict of a mother. To fund their lifestyle, she takes Bryce on her sprees of crime with her, barely giving any care to the girl's emotional needs. Bryce finds herself torn between listening to her mother and following her heart. Intertwined in the drama is her one and eternal love with Bobby, a boy from school, and learning the reality of how cruel people are when they're in power after she has to fend for herself at her new workplace. Bryce decides that she can be just as cutthroat and refuses to go down a victim.

The series is a Cosmic Retcon of sorts as previous Brandon Rogers videos had established a completely different origin story for her after the events of Blame the Hero.

The supporting cast includes Hilary Shepard (Tammy Tankthrust), Gary Nohealii (Donovan), Jude B. Lanston (Fitchell B. Hornbun), Kornbread Jeté (Gloria), Onicks (Delorio), Molly Renze (Page), Paulette Jones (Beatrice Brownstein), Jack Plotnick (Mr. Dutton) and Mitsy Sanderson (Iris). In addition, Bobby is also played by Brandon Rogers.

BRYCE has examples of:

  • The '80s: Established to take place in this era when in the final episode, where New Year's Eve 1990 is publicly announced on TV. Bryce was in her twenties back then, and the prior episodes focused on her childhood/teenage years.
  • Bad Boss: Fitchell's wife Diane was a loudmouthed, abrasive bitch who talked to her employees as if they were dogs and frequently insulted them. It's not hard to feel sad when Bryce sics her Do-Anything Robot onto her.
  • Badass Family: Bryce and her mother, a pair of con artists who perform the Double Diva Diversion. When Bryce's mother was her age, her own mum did the same with her, and it's implied to have gone back generations. In the finale, Bryce puts her own spin on it with the Triple Diva Diversion.
  • Black and Nerdy: Gloria is a Gadgeteer Genius who's specialty is creating robots; she's been using the company storage room to host her creations. Bryce pays her to create Robot!Donovan.
  • Coming of Age Story: It starts when Bryce is born and puts a limelight on her school life, her chaotic teenage years, her tenure at work and eventually her romance/marriage with Bobby. She is seen visibly getting older (despite being played by the same actor in all her appearances) and also grows and changes as a person.
  • Green and Mean: Any time a character has green as a prominent part of their appearance (i.e. Bobby/Fitchell's wife Diane), you can bet they're highly unlikable. Bobby is a rude, violent Jerkass while Diane is a snobby Bad Boss.
  • Hated by All: Delorio. When Bryce yells "everyone say fuck you Delorio" after becoming the new boss, everyone enthusiastically repeats it. It's hard to blame them considering how much of a suckup Delorio was to the previous management.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Fitchell, when he says "if you kill me I swear to god I'll tell the police!".
  • Frame-Up: Bryce and Bobby kill the previous CEO and then frame Mitchell for it.
  • Foregone Conclusion: From the beginning the viewer knew that Bryce and Donovan wouldn't be a thing because the narration states she is married to Bobby.
  • Love Triangle: Bobby and Donovan both love Bryce. The First Guy Wins.
  • Once an Episode: Every episode begins with Bryce recapping the events of the prior one, over a montage of clips.
  • Official Couple: Bryce and Bobby, by the end. Yeah, he's in a poly relationship with a few of his BDSM gang members, but his heart belongs to her.
  • Police Are Useless: Averted, the police are more than happy to arrest Bryce's mom...for the crime of calling a random stranger ugly.
  • Retcon: Earlier Brandon Rogers episodes established that Bryce engaged in science experiments on her body of her own volition. Here, she removed her own heart in her childhood to save Bobby.
  • The Reveal: Bryce was one step ahead of the CEOs the whole time as she had given a genuine apology from the heart to her mother and Gloria, leading them to forgive her and give her a backup plan in the form of the Triple Diva Diversion; leaving a stranger in Bryce's place for them to kill before taking them down themselves.
  • Second Love: Bryce's first love was Bobby who she met at school, but in her teenage years she became smitten with a phone shop employee named Donovan. Donovan unfortunately died, leading Bryce to immortalize him with a robot and move on with Bobby.
  • Social Services Does Not Exist: Subverted, they do exist, as Bryce's mom calls the cops on Bobby for his juvenile delinquent behavior - and they took him to an orphanage where he was treated like shit.
  • Visual Pun: Bryce yells "how's this for a stimulus check!" when baring her breasts. She's certainly trying to "stimulate" something.
