Brandon Works (stylized as brandon works) is a Roblox Digital Horror that ran from July 14th, 2021 to April 19th, 2023. Mainly set in 2009-2010 with later entries jumping towards the time period of 2012-2013, the series centers around the disappearance of the titular Roblox user brandon6875935 around the November of 2009, as our protagonist ozolog1 (seemingly not even a teenager yet) initially starts up the brandon works YouTube channel
to show off creations and memories from his dearly missed friend through their shared Roblox account, only to learn through many versions of Brandon's "my house place" maps that Brandon's disappearance may have not been as simple as it seems. The channel and series progressively turns from a late-2000s nostalgia trip through simpler and happier times to investigating the saddening reality underneath, as ozolog1 grows obsessed with trying to understand and find out what happened to his friend Brandon to the detriment of himself and his other friends, becoming privy to his broken home life and facing down the possibility that he has been indoctrinated into a religious doomsday cult ready to take their own lives.
You can watch the full series through the aforementioned brandon works YouTube channel
and the "in order" playlist,
which includes the unlisted entry "Two more old unfinished vids". Certain maps featured in the videos are actually real and playable on Roblox through the profiles of brandon6875935
and ozolog1
, with other supporting characters in the series also being given their own Roblox profiles.
brandon works provides examples of:
- Abusive Parents: Brandon's dad is horribly abusive to both him and his mother, even going as far as to lock him in a room for an hour just for touching the TV remote.
- Apocalypse Cult: It's heavily implied that the cult his father joined regularly encourages its members to take their own lives when ready.
- Behind the Black: Although Brandon's username can be seen in the top-right corner several seconds in advance, neither Ozolog nor Coolbrandon notice Brandon's return until he appears onscreen.
- Chekhov M.I.A.: Sparten being absent for Brandon's return as Coolbrandon is actually a sign that Sparten was controlling the Coolbrandon account.
- Confronting Your Imposter: In "Explanation", Coolbrandon gets exposed as really being Sparten under a different alias when Brandon unexpectedly joins their server.
- Deadly Euphemism: It gradually becomes clear that "Sundowning" and "Downing" is a reference to ritual suicide.
- Downer Ending: The final video of the series has NPCs of Brandon's avatar letting out pre-rendered messages saying that he had finally reached paradise, a heavy implication that he took his own life.
- Foreshadowing: In the 2nd house video, Ozolog jokes about getting to stay with an NPC of Brandon forever. In the finale video ".", all that's left for Ozolog to talk to is an NPC of Brandon who reveals that the real Brandon had most likely died.
- Sparten is consciously missing from "First Meeting" onwards. In "Answers", it turns out he was the one running the Coolbrandon account.
- Innocent Means Naïve: At first, Ozolog doesn't realize what the behavior of Brandon's dad in the house place means. Most likely because he's a child.
- Precision F-Strike: In the final video of the series, Ozolog lets out one single "FUCK" as a response to Brandon dying.
- Retraux: The videos are edited to look as though they were made and uploaded in the early 2010s, and the gameplay footage looks quite accurate to what Roblox would have looked like around that time.
- Spotting the Thread: The main thing that gets Ozolog to suspect that Coolbrandon is an imposter is that Coolbrandon doesn't know Ozolog's real last name, as seen in the video "Questions".
- Stylistic Suck: Most of the video editing looks subpar, and the Roblox footage is a bit buggy (with the obby video even having audio completely panned to the right) to highlight how it's meant to have been made by an inexperienced creator in-universe.
- Wham Episode: The last "house place" video
has Ozolog finally learning about the Sundowners. Turning a trip down memory lane, into an investigation to find what happened to his friend. - Wham Shot: In this unlisted video
, Brandon is seen putting a green block on one of his friends' bulidings, an act which Sundowners consider making it "clean". Ozolog then pans his camera over to reveal he has done this to each and every one of their buildings.
