Bad Art History
is a YouTube series done by user Frankie Fey
(previously known as Skumbagovich). The series talks about anything that have to do with weird Fetish culture (mostly coming from DeviantArt) and the darker side of the internet, detailing their origins, how they got viral, and theorizing why they came to be in the first place.
Because of the content that is discussed, the videos tend to easily go from 0 to 100 really quickly, almost resulting in the Youtuber talking about a lot of disgusting and detailed stuff mixed with dry humor and a plethora of memes, done to counterbalance the nauseating details.
More recently the series has gained some spin-offs of the formula, one deemed as a "lightning round" style video in which fans gives to the Youtuber the content to discuss, one that discusses more macabre stuff called "The Freaky Files", and one discussing content that leans more into the impact porn culture did to the internet, jokingly titled "Down-Bad Art History".
Compare Tales From the Internet by WHANG
, a series which talks about weird and obscure content that is also known for being just as disgusting.
Bad Art History provides examples of:
- Call-Back: Frankie often mentions her previous videos due to subjects having similarities or coming from the same place.
- Not His Sled:
- When discussing about the "Trauma"/Furry Parents Fighting artwork, Frankie mentions how in contrast to the rest of the work she shown, this one seems to not be something that reaches levels of a fetish or joke art, but in truth it's a sincere piece of work that became a meme for its status as being extremely relatable for many people affected by a similar parental event.
- On a similar situation, the "Millenial Shrek Family" meme ended up getting popular among the Spanish-speaking audience due to its status on perfectly encapsulating the stereotypical "Buchón"note culture, being a group of people that wear stuff that includes brand logos, and it's not deemed fetishistic or weird, just extremely relatable for many and very hilarious.
- Running Joke: Every video ending always includes a Pun related to the video subject.
