The Seer is a discontinued Creepypasta comic by Madame Macabre, begun October 9th 2012 and updating every 1-2 weeks before being abandoned in 2014. It stars Ms. Korbyn Jumping Eagle, a girl who has been seeing strange things all her life. After her grandmother dies, she receives a mysterious old book which, upon opening, fully awakens her to the world of spirits and monsters around her. This places her into a new role as "the Seer", the bridge between the Under and Over Realms; now she must learn to work with her strange new allies and escape the monsters sent after her by Zalgo - all while maintaining her life as a college student.

Provides examples of:

  • Aerith and Bob: Korbyn Jumping Eagle, which (in the earlier version) she even points out how odd it may sound (although her name is because she's half Sioux). She later becomes company of killers with more typical names like Jeff.
  • Affably Evil: Slender Man, who acts as a Team Dad to his murderous subordinates and is polite to Korbyn.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Korbyn's friend Camille endearingly calls her "Korby" when she assumes her to be in a relationship with Jeff, much to the disbelief of them both.
Camille: Do you two got a thing or something? Aw, Korby, that's adorable! Why didn't you tell me?
  • Art Evolution: Over the course of the comic the art has gained more depth, and the characters are drawn more consistently.
  • Animesque: Drawn by an American, the artstyle has a somewhat anime-inspired look with fairly Big Anime Eyes and a simplistic cartoon-ish style.
  • Barbarian Longhair: Jeff, who has a long-ass mane and is easily the most Axe-Crazy of Korbyn's allies. His canon homicidal tendencies in-story are the most apparent.
  • Big Bad: So far, Zalgo is the major antagonist, wanting to kidnap the Seer and sending his minions to get her.
  • Black-and-Gray Morality: Zalgo manipulates others into killing and wants to hurt Korbyn. Those protecting her, on the other hand, being Slenderman and his subordinates, are killers but adhere to a council and are more pleasant to her. However, Masky warns Korbyn to not let her guard down around them. In the reboot, when Jeff introduces himself and tells Korbyn that he's under orders to protect her, she asks if his boss is good, and Jeff replies that "good" may not be the best adjective to describe him.
  • Black Comedy: Jeff is full of dark and inappropriate jokes. From the first version of the dubs, for example:
Jeff: People will say or suck anything if it means they'll get out of being killed!
  • Blade Reflection: Jeff reveals himself to Zalgo's minion who invades Korbyn's room to kidnap her, his Slasher Smile reflecting on his knife as he holds it up to kill him.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Played with. When Scarecrow first came to life, she murdered her crush's girlfriend and then genuinely didn't understand why he was upset. In Scarecrow's perspective, she just did what she had to do to get him back. However, she says that the exhilaration she felt from the kill was soon replaced with what she later learned was remorse.
  • Call-Back: The gist of Jeff's past (his backstory from his source) is explained to Korbyn by Masky, that he was a child when he lost his family because he murdered them. Masky brings this up to warn Korbyn against ever letting their guard down around them, as they're still dangerous killers even if they're protecting her from a greater threat.
  • Continuity Nod: Jeff is ticked off when Scarecrow says the word "ugly" and throws a knife at her neck in retaliation, saying "You shut your fuckin' mouth I'll show you ugly!". In his original story, he took great emphasis on considering his changed twisted self "beautiful" and killed his mother for falsely flattering him to get her husband to shoot their son.
  • Creepy Monotone: Hoodie, who sounds like Glados in the dubs.
  • Dead Guy on Display: After killing the farmboy's girlfriend, Scarecrow hangs her corpse up on her old stake, with her guts spilling from her torso.
  • Dead Man Writing: Among the belongings that Fala left for her granddaughter Korbyn are a book with a letter and a key inside. The letter says that if Korbyn is reading this, Zalgo most likely had Fala murdered. In her writing, she explains how the book is meant to guide Korbyn to her role as the new Seer, and she instructs to use the key to immediately obtain the contents in a safety deposit box before Zalgo does, and to trust no one except Slender Man.
  • Deal with the Devil: Scarecrow made one of these with Zalgo - in return for becoming mobile, she would be his servant. When things in the Over Realm didn't pan out, she was more or less forced into serving him forever due to having no place else to go. Which, of course, he knew would happen.
  • Detachment Combat: Played with. Jeff cuts off Scarecrow's arm, but the detached limb grabs him when he charges at her again, giving Scarecrow the opportunity to swing her scythe at Jeff's back.
  • Dual Wielding: Jeff wields one extra knife as he fights against Scarecrow.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette:
    • Jeff the Killer, as usual, has bleached white skin and jet-black hair.
    • Implied for Masky. He is Slender Man's proxy, has brown hair and a White Mask of Doom, but we don't know what his actual face looks like.
  • Exhausted Eyebags: Thanks to being suddenly introduced to her Seer destiny by strangers (the main cast) appearing in her room at night, Korbyn rushes to class the next morning with eyebags. Camille can see how weary she is and asks if everything's alright, and Korbyn responds that she just needs to catch up on sleep.
  • Expressive Mask: Masky can smile or frown with his mask, and the black eye holes move with Disembodied Eyebrows to express concern, anger, or more.
  • Face Palm: While speaking through Masky to Korbyn, there is a point where Slender Man and Masky simultaneously put a hand to their forehead in disbelief. In the original wording, he facepalms when Korbyn talks back in a manner which says that "temper runs in the family". In the reboot, he facepalms when he realises that Fala hasn't trained Korbyn for the Seer duty.
  • Glamour Failure: Since the Invisible to Normals abilities that many creatures have only extend to their bodies, Masky (ironically the most "normal" looking of the monsters) unintentionally freaks Korbyn's friend Camille out when she sees a guy in a White Mask of Doom standing outside staring at her.
  • Glowing Eyes: Korbyn's eyes glow light blue when she opens her deceased grandmother's book, which awakens her destiny as the Seer.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: The moment when Jeff murders Zalgo's minion in Korbyn's room is concealed with a red blood splatter over a black backdrop.
  • Humanoid Abomination:
    • Slender Man, as usual, has a tall humanoid figure with a white featureless face and Combat Tentacles.
    • Zalgo is illustrated with human-like body parts that appear skeletal, spiky and Red and Black and Evil All Over. He has jagged mouths on his upper body and his legs are jointed like a goat's hind legs.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal:
    • Poor Korbyn never asked for her life as she knew it to be taken so suddenly from her, but ultimately accepts the important Seer duty obligated upon her since she can't live with the thought of others getting hurt because of her.
    • Masky greatly misses his old normal life, and says he's as bad as Jeff for bringing Korbyn into the Under Realm's problems. Masky doesn't want to go to the Under Realm in hopes of withholding his humanity, or at least what's left of it.
  • Insult Backfire: Played with. When Korbyn calls Jeff a monster, he sarcastically replies "Aw shucks, you're gonna make me blush" before telling her to cut the attitude because he just saved her from Zalgo's minion (by killing him, but still).
  • Invisible to Normals:
    • Korbyn has been seeing odd creatures all her life that are invisible to others, such as a green floating cat with a single sideways eye. She's learned to cope with it well, though sometimes it's unavoidable, like when a creature obscures the text in her book that she has to read aloud.
    • Played with for the creepypastas. Sufficiently powerful creatures can project a disguise that makes them appear as humans while in the Over Realm (however, it only extends to their bodies). Only other Under Realm creatures and the Seer can see just their true form.
  • Jerkass: Jeff is really rude, which has been pointed out by many, even Scarecrow before she joins their side. He also ruins many emotional or serious moments with sarcasm, insults, or being otherwise inconsiderate.
Korbyn: (to Jeff) Sounds like your skill set includes being a total prick.
  • Kill It with Fire: After Jeff realizes that knives won't work on Scarecrow, he decides to light her on fire - although Korbyn stops him to give her a chance to explain herself.
  • Legacy of the Chosen: Korbyn's ancestors have been producing Seers for millenia, one for each generation and only one awakened at a time. Her last predecessor was her grandmother Fala, who assumed the ability in her line was dead after Korbyn's mother failed to inherit it, but left a book to help the next Seer in case she was wrong. Slender Man speculates that in the case it did die in the Jumping Eagle line, the ability would return to the Locklear line, which nobody wants since they haven't had offspring in ages and the one candidate from them is apparently an unpleasant individual who has been a Seer before.
  • Literal Disarming: Jeff throws a knife right through Scarecrow's left arm, cutting it clean off. However, she can fight just as fine with only the other arm.
  • Looks Like Cesare: Jeff has extremely pale skin, creepy shadowed undereyes and unkempt black hair. His human look is a downplayed version as his skin is a more naturally light color and has Innocent Blue Eyes, but maintaining his wild hair and shaded undereyes.
  • Magical Accessory: Jeff puts a talisman ring on Korbyn's finger and tells her to not take it off. The rebooted version explains its protective magic further, it cloaks the energy signature given off of Korbyn's awakening to conceal her position from Zalgo's minions.
  • The Masquerade: Some creatures of the Under Realm can mask their true form to appear as humans in the Over Realm. Taking medical care from human hospitals is forbidden as it risks exposing their true nature, which is where the Seer's importance as The Medic comes into play.
  • The Medic: One of the duties of the Seer is to treat monsters who can't go to the Under Realm for medical care, since they can't go to human hospitals.
  • No Yay: In-universe; thanks to The Masquerade, Jeff looks like a Pretty Boy to Korbyn's friend Camille. However, as the Seer, Korbyn can't see this, so all she hears is her friend gushing over how cute the creepy murderer with the Glasgow Grin looks. When Camille thinks Korbyn has something going on with him, Korbyn is repulsed while Jeff laughs hysterically at the ridiculous notion.
Korbyn: Okay, first of all, that's disgusting on more levels than you could imagine. Second, this conversation is over.
  • Non-Mammal Mammaries: Scarecrow is a Scary Scarecrow who is illustrated with human-like breasts, which are probably made of hay like the rest of her body.
  • Oh, Crap!: Zalgo's minion reacts with dread when he finds Jeff lying in wait for him.
Minion: Oh dear... it just had to be this guy...
  • Ominous Adversarial Amusement: Jeff slashes Scarecrow multiple times and thinks she's out for the count, but to his surprise, she cackles and gets back on her feet, taunting that she cannot bleed to death (because she is a scarecrow).
  • Only Sane Man:
    • Korbyn, a recent member of the group, is averse to the maddening ways of the others, trying to be a voice of reason as their equal.
    • Slender Man tries his best to maintain the order amongst the others as their boss, however much a headache they give him.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: When Korbyn tears up over Fala's letter to her, Jeff says sorry for her grandmother's death, though he excuses himself and walks off since he's not good with condolences. Korbyn says that was pleasantly out of character for him, and Masky responds that Jeff tends to get awkward about familial death, which likely has to do with him murdering his own family in the past.
  • Plot-Triggering Book: Korbyn receives an old book from her grandma Fala after she dies, and opening it unlocks her destiny as the "Seer." Not long after she does so, she gains deadly allies who protect her from Zalgo's minions, who seek to kidnap her. Inside the book is a key and Fala's letter, written to explain Korbyn's new duty and guide her on where to go to take Fala's place as the new Seer.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: The Ax-Crazy Jeff the Killer always seems to have a knife on him to fight or murder with.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Although averted for the red-eyed heroine Korbyn, some of her lethal adversaries have red eyes too.
    • Scarecrow's empty black eye holes can get red glowing pupils when she's enraged, like when the farmboy tells her that he was too busy to visit Scarecrow more often despite spending time with his girlfriend.
    • Zalgo's scleras are red with tiny black pupils by default. When he's being extra ominous, the colours swap places, glowing red pupils in black eyes with Tears of Blood.
  • Scary Scarecrow: Zalgo sends a living scarecrow woman (named Scarecrow) after Korbyn. While she turns out to be a bit more sympathetic than most examples of this trope, she's still plenty terrifying - just ask the woman she killed immediately after becoming mobile.
  • Shadowed Face, Glowing Eyes: A cloaked figure, who is Zalgo's minion, has white eyes that glow from the shadow of his hood, his face is otherwise obscured. He looks confused when he doesn't find anything at the location of the new Seer, then he looks fearful when he discovers Jeff waiting for him.
  • Shrinking Violet: Masky is rather timid for a proxy, and can come off as meek due to his light, soft voice. As Jeff puts it, he's "an overgrown powder-puff".
  • Sinister Scythe: Zalgo gifts Scarecrow with an enchanted scythe to absorb the soul of the farmboy's girlfriend. As Zalgo's minion, she wields a large scythe while fighting against Korbyn, Masky and Jeff.
  • The Snack Is More Interesting: Played with. The mention of the Locklears unsettles the others. Then Jeff walks in munching on a sandwich and says, "What I miss?" Scarecrow is angry that Jeff isn't taking the conversation seriously.
Scarecrow: A sandwich?! What the hell is wrong with you! This is serious! Even Lord Zalgo warned me to be cautious of this Locklear.
Jeff: What?! I'm hungry! I haven't eaten in days! Besides, it's not like any of us have met him. Who cares?!
  • Split-Screen Reaction: When Slender Man brings up the Locklears and says he'd be damned if "he" were to be the Seer again, Korbyn asks who this "he" is. Masky, Slender Man and Scarecrow's disturbed reactions appear in panels next to one another. Then Jeff walks in with a sandwich.
  • Team Dad: Slender Man, of all individuals, is an orderly leader to the main group and occasionally refers to some of them with "child" (if not by name).
Slender Man: (while Jeff and Scarecrow are arguing) Will you two stop it! You are giving me a migraine!
  • Telepathy: An operator can project thoughts to a proxy and speak through them, with the proxy's actions mimicking their boss while they're controlled. This is how Slender Man communicates, and it's implied that he prefers talking through Masky instead of Hoodie because his voice is more intimidating through the former.
Jeff: Oh that's just Masky. Don't worry about him. Since the boss doesn't have a mouth, he uses proxies as his telepathic mouthpieces.
  • Teleportation:
    • One of Slender Man's abilities. At one point, he appears randomly behind Korbyn, who freaks out and tells him to stop doing that.
Slender Man: My apologies... it's sort of a bad habit of mine...
    • Proxies can pick up powers of their operators in small amounts if they've worked for them long enough. Thus, Masky can "slender-walk" a short distance to attack Scarecrow from behind, but it requires a time-consuming recharge.
  • Theme Tune: "Blood Right", made by Madame Macabre as a tribute/theme for her own series, and used as intro music for the rebooted dubs.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Obviously "evil" is a relative term here, but Jeff is probably the most Ax-Crazy (and jerkish) of Korbyn's allies.
  • Trapped in Villainy: Scarecrow is an unwilling minion of Zalgo's, having been tricked into making a Deal with the Devil and forced to continue working with him since the humans would pursue her wherever she went.
  • True Sight: The titular Seer, Korbyn, can see things that humans can't, including the true form of the creepypasta monsters. The ability is hereditary and she's seen odd creatures her whole life, but opening her grandmother's book opens her to the destiny of the Seer, to be the bridge between both the visible Over Realm and the unseen Under Realm.
  • White Mask of Doom: Played with for Masky. Korbyn is initially freaked out by him until he trips at her window and falls on his face. Camille too finds his white mask creepy. Masky may seem timid and is holding on to his humanity as much as he can, but the flashbacks during his conversation with Hoodie show that he's had "episodes" of violence before.
  • Who Needs Their Whole Body?: Scarecrow can wield her Sinister Scythe just as well with only one arm when the other is removed.
Scarecrow: You see, unlike you fragile little creatures, the temporary loss of one of my limbs is hardly enough to be considered any real handicap.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Poor Scarecrow... she was tricked into a life of villainy with the false promise of getting her beloved farmboy back, only to be almost burned alive and then trapped into doing Zalgo's bidding for the past decade.
  • Yandere: Scarecrow went to the extent of making a Deal with the Devil to eliminate the farmboy's girlfriend so he would go back to being with Scarecrow instead. It's possible that some of this was Zalgo's influence, however.
  • You're Insane!: Korbyn calls Jeff insane/a lunatic and a monster when he tells her to follow him as if Jeff didn't just murder someone in her room minutes ago. When Jeff explains that there are people after Korbyn and that he's risking himself to protect her, she apologises for coming off as ungrateful but is still frightened by the whole ordeal.
  • Youthful Freckles: Downplayed. Korbyn is a college student with freckles on her cheeks.
