Thank you Detroit! Good Night!

The Rock Cocks is an erotic, comedic webcomic centered around the rise and antics of Suria and Steg, members of the evocative punk band the Rock Cocks. On their opening night, they rock the house with their passionate music and sexual appeal, the audience stripping naked and giving in to their sexual urges. This gets the attention of Seth Sterling - founder and CEO of Sterling Music - who hopes to sign them up and make them into the next big band, all the while keeping them away from his biggest rival, Roxanne Richards.

The comic can be found by following links from their patreon. (We do not provide a direct link due to the occasional NSFW and general risqué nature of the strip.)

This webcomic provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Alternate Continuity: On Slipshine, there is an alternate, one-shot version of the Rock Cocks, with a looser artistic style and alternate character designs.
  • Ambiguously Bi: In track 5, Elizabeth is sent to wake up a naked Steg and Suria in the grotto. When she finds the two on top of each other, she has a hard time deciding which she should look at; Steg's "morning wood" or Suria's "pretty".
  • All Women Are Lustful: Given the genre, it's not surprising that all the female characters are quite lecherous. (Elizabeth seems to be a subversion until she is seen masturbating to a photo of Seth.) However, the men are generally much the same, so technically the trope isn’t present in its classic form.
  • Bedmate Reveal: Averted. In Track 5, Elizabeth wakes up completely naked on the floor in Redd's room, having finally sobered up from a night of drinking. She asks if she and Redd had sex, Redd assures her that they didn't.
  • Advertisement:
  • Berserk Button: Roxanne completely loses her composure (kicking out her massager with threats of arrest) when she finds out that Seth got to the Rock Cocks before her.
  • Christian Rock: The band Three Wise Men (allegedly...)
  • Coitus Ensues a lot...
    • In Track 1, after Suria strips down and throws her old grocery store uniform out the window, she and Steg immediately have sex on the balcony of their apartment.
    • In Track 2, Suria and Steg have sex in their van after essentially after instigating an orgy with their song.
    • Track 3 has Suria and Steg walk in on Seth having sex with his boyfriend in his office.
    • Track 4, Suria and Steg spend the night at Redd's and amazed by how quickly their dreams are coming true, they have sex.
    • Track 5 taking place after the Rock Cock's initial success, Suria and Steg do it in the pool, Seth and Georgie have sex on the balcony while Redd has a threesome with Meg and Rei in her room.
    • On their way to Melody Fair in Track 6, Suria and Steg pull-over for a "break" from driving after getting turned on from what they might be able to do while on tour. The next morning Seth and Georgie are having sex on their free time.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Redd was shot in the back causing her to be paraplegic.
    • Roxane and Seth are implied to have past troubles.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Seth is normally very tolerant of his client's antics, but he draws the line at the state of Melody's resort.
  • Evil, Inc.: You're bound to be the antagonist when you run a company called Maleficent Records.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Suria dyes her hair white when they decide to leave their apartment and give their band another shot. Roxanne also tames her Godiva Hair into a bun when she decides to fight Sterling for once and for all.
  • Fat and Skinny / Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Coral and Clover respectively.
  • Flash Forward: Track 5 skips ahead from Track 4 after they release their first album and make it big.
  • Flirtatious Smack on the Ass: Clover gives Coral a pinch when introducing her to Seth, Suria and Elizabeth.
  • I Choose to Stay: Clover and Coral went to Pleasant Valley to get married, and since Coral was a fan of Melody's songs, they decided to get married at her clothing-optional resort where they chose to stay as employees.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Elizabeth has a major crush on Seth despite him being gay with a boyfriend.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: Has become a recurring gag throughout the series.
    • The first time was when Suria and Steg have a congratulatory quickie in their van after winning the contest, only for Seth and Elizabeth to open the van's doors and find Suria reverse cowgirling him.
    • The second time happens the next day, Suria and Steg finding Seth having sex with his boyfriend Georgie. Unlike Suria and Steg however, Seth and Georgie are undeterred by this, proceeding with their meeting completely naked from the waist down.
    • In their first night at Redd’s estate, Seth catches Elizabeth masturbating with a dildo to a photo of him. Lucky for her, she was hiding behind her bed "praying".
  • Jerkass Has a Point: The club owner in Track 11 who prevents the Rock Cocks from entering is inflexible and unnecessarily confrontational, but he owns up to not doing his research on the kind of band the Rock Cocks are when he first booked them, admits plainly that if he had known in advance he wouldn't have given them the venue, and points out that he notified Seth three days in advance to cancel the gig they had set up. While Seth hadn't been able to stay in touch due to being out in Melody's resort (which is in the middle of a desert), the club owner didn't know about that, and places the blame firmly on Seth for not notifying Steg and Suria.
  • Light Is Not Good: In Track 5 Roxanne thinks up a plan to combat Seth and The Rock Cocks by creating a prudish band that would make him and the Rock Cocks look bad and sick.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Rei clearly wears make-up.
  • Mature Rating: For sex and nudity. That’s the whole point honestly.
  • Naked Apron: Meg and Rei are wearing nothing but aprons as they serve pancakes. Georgie gets into it also.
  • Naked First Impression: Seth has this with Steg and Suria. Justified in which he really wanted to make a strong first impression on then. This also happen to Steg and Suria towards George, who they meet while he is having sex with Seth.
  • Odd Couple: Seth and George actually seem to like each other. Although Elizabeth does call George Seth's Boy toy.
  • The Pornomancer: The Rock Cocks basically caused an orgy with their song during their first concert.
  • Punk Rock: The Rock Cock's music genre.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Redd Wright (also known as “Little Redd Rider”) is outgoing, an influential rap-artist and in a wheelchair. Her assistant Big Blue on the other hand is big, strong and is of few words.
  • Reality Ensues: While Melody has gained a wealth of experience and friendships from her various career pursuits, it's also left her practically bankrupt, which also means, as Seth points out during their meditation powwow in Track 10, that Clover and Coral will be out of work and a home if Melody can't find another means of income to keep the resort open. This is exactly what happens when the authorities re-appropriates Melody's crumbling resort. Although it's revealed that Seth was the one who called them, the implication is that he simply hurried along what was already an inevitability.
  • Remembered Too Late: The reason why Seth holds a grudge against Melody is because she announced her retirement at the 1994 Music Awards without telling him first, essentially violating her contract.
  • Rockabilly: Music genre of the Rocket Rollers.
  • Rollerblade Good: Emily Roller never takes her skates off.
  • Saved by Canon: The comic takes place a few years before Blaster Nation, where it's established that the Rock Cocks are a successful and popular band.
  • Shrinking Violet: Elizabeth.
  • Themed Wedding: Coral and Clover reveal that they got married at Melody Faire's clothing-optional resort to have their own clothing-optional wedding. They enjoyed their stay so much that they decided to stay indefinitely as employees.
  • There Are No Coincidences: Turns out that Seth had Elizabeth call the government agent to seize Melody's resort.
  • Two Decades Behind: Despite taking place somewhere in between the late 2000s and the early 2010s, the comic pushes the idea that a punk rock band that dresses lewdly and sings about sex and obscenity as a new and controversial concept that makes them almost impossible to promote.
    • When the band books their first gig in an music club Austin, Texas, the most liberal and progressive city in the state, the club's owner is shown to be super conservative and was appalled by their explicit style of dress and music and refuses to let them play, even getting disgusted by the fact that Suria doesn't have a bra under her shirt.
  • Villain Respect: In the contest in Track 2, the Rock Cock's competition the Rocket Rollers were at first smug in their apparent superiority. When the Rock Cocks play, the entire audience was so into it they all start taking off their clothes and begin to "release their newly acquired sexual frustration". At first bewildered and spiteful, the Rocket Rollers become so turned on they start masturbating back-stage.
  • Villain Team-Up: When the Rolling Rockers are signed onto Maleficent Records by Roxanne.
  • You Have No Idea Who You're Dealing With: In Track 4, Redd becomes annoyed when Suria admits that she only knows her from a voice acting role where she played a bulldog in a forgettable animated movie.
Redd: Wait... seriously...? I'm Redd Wright! Lil' Redd Rider! I've got three diamond albums! I started a music revolution! I'm like, the only goddamn crippled female rapper! You seriously haven't heard of me? Haven't you at least seen one of my movies?!
Suria: Oh! Didn't you play a bulldog or something in a kid's cartoon?
Redd: That's what you know me from?! "Lion in the Fucking Dog House"?! That's not even one of my good movies!
    • In Track 6, Suria experiences this when she thinks that a store clerk recognizes her, only to be mistaken by someone else.

How well does it match the trope?
