Go To

Persona 2 Win is the latest entry to Strain42's Persona For The Win series, after Persona Won, Persona 3 FTW, and Persona 4TW. Based on the original Persona 2 game, Persona 2 Win follows a silent protagonist, who must keep himself medicated so that he can fight both demons and rumors. It is the first Persona For The Win entry to not be published on The Duck.

Persona 2 Win is a two part series, with Innocent Sin running daily updates from September 28, 2014 to May 10, 2015, and Eternal Punishment running daily from May 31, 2015 to February 4, 2016.

Persona 2 Win provides examples of:

     Innocent Sin
  • Anachronism Stew: Lisa declares herself to be a browncoat, or fan of Firefly. Persona 2: Innocent Sin is set in 1999, while Firefly came out in 2002.
  • Bloody Hilarious: Eikichi beats up Sugimoto and uses his shirt as a blood napkin.
  • Brick Joke:
    • From Persona 3 FTW. When denying that she does drugs, Lisa drops a bag of green stuff that she claims is oregano.
    • A more serious example is the only 'skip comic' (comics where two characters skip together). Professor Ideal skips with Nyalathotep... after fatally stabbing Maya.
  • The Ditz: Maya. Carries over into EP.
  • Drugs Are Good: The MC takes pills to keep himself sane. He's been doing it since he was around eight. But then his Shadow reveals that it was sugar pills all along. Afterwards, Tatsuya throws the pills away because he doesn't need them anymore.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: Nyalathotep speaks directly to the audience. Heck, he even appears in the comments!
  • Freudian Excuse: The MC is an asocial jerk because his only friends locked him in a shrine when he was a kid.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Exactly how Jun fights with flowers is never shown, but apparently it's terrifying.
  • Hand Wave: Apparently, rumors are responsible for arcades and shops to inexplicably have giant mazes.
  • Insane Troll Logic:
    • In Eikichi's words, Jun as Joker wants to kill Maya to prove that she has been dead for ten years.
    • In a more lighthearted example, Maya (the playable character) decides to save Maya (the teacher) because they have the same name.
  • In-Series Nickname: Inverted; Lisa is called Ginko in the game, but Strain 42 didn't like that so she's only called Lisa.
  • Mythology Gag: When the party is on the Silver River, Eikichi pretends to be a pilot. He says that the in boat movie is Double Barreled Justice starring Craig S. Smith, which was the movie Junpei and the Fem! MC watched in Persona 3 FTW.
  • No Name Given: The MC's name isn't revealed until EP. This is taken up to eleven when Great Father Nyalathotep calls out the names of the party... except for him. GFN calls him Katsuya's brother.
  • Official Couple: TatsuyaxJun. They kiss right when Lisa tries to declare her love!
  • Only Sane Man: Jun is said to be the only party member who isn't funny. He only ever talks about the task at hand. Eikichi lampshades that, saying that his quirk is being unquirky.
  • Quest Giver: Parodied. A hiker asks the party to kill the Jumping Geezer for absolutely no reason.
  • Say My Name: The only thing the MC says is Jun's name.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: Yukino gives Jun her Persona, despite Philemon being in the middle of saying he can restore it.
  • Those Two Guys: Two male students appear who are said to have a relationship even closer than that of the main characters. It's platonic.
  • Translation Convention: Lampshaded. When it's stated that Lisa can't speak English, Eikichi is surprised that they're actually speaking Japanese.

     Eternal Punishment
  • Book Ends: The story begins with Tatsuya at the Araya Shrine, where an old lady begs him for some money. It ends with Eikichi, Jun, and Lisa at the Araya Shrine, where the same old lady begs them for some money.
  • Brick Joke: Like Joker, the New World Order also hands out pamphlets.
  • Cowboy Cop: Katsuya. Being threatened with having his badge taken away excites him.
  • Friend on the Force: Katsuya to the rest of the party, but it is humorously deconstructed when the other party members commit crimes in front of him. Such as Tatsuya Suou killing Tatsuya Sudou, Baofu throwing coins at a gangster to get him to talk, and Maya shooting Makimura.
  • Groin Attack: Maya shoots Ginji in the balls. Not that he doesn't deserve it.
  • Hollywood Spelling: Averted. Katsuya has to ask how to spell Philemon's name when he appears.
  • Innocent Innuendo: No, Ulala, no one wants to know what Maya did in the women's bathroom. Find the vent they needed to spy on people, what else?
    • Ginji asks someone to touch his long, hard Wang Long.
  • Quest Giver: Again parodied. Ixquic asks the party to kill the Running Hag for absolutely no reason. Ulala lampshades this.
  • Running Gag: Katsuya lampshading the fact that other party members keep on committing crimes.
  • Speaks in Shout-Outs: Baofu only speaks in memes.
  • Toilet Humor: Like in the game, the characters have to go through the sewers to get to the lab. Unlike the game, they also have to wade through lots of poop. And rather than being flooded with water, the sewers get flooded with poop. Justified, because it's a sewer.
