Demon Hunter Kain is a Web Comic by Burrell Gill Jr.

Mysterious disappearances… grisly, ritualistic murders… terrible things lurking in the shadows…

All these can be found in New Babylon… the most haunted city in the world.

Kain Smith’s plan was simple: Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Demon Hunter thereby continuing his clan’s ancient heritage and giving himself a chance to make amends for a horrendous event from his past.Things begin to get complicated when he meets and befriends Zandalee Joseph, a mentally unstable(?) girl with strange powers.

Now… between being a teenager, befriending Zandalee, high school, ruthless Demon Hunting mentors, living in the most haunted city in the world AND whispers of the coming Apocalypse, will Kain survive long enough to achieve his goals?

Unfortunately, the webcomic is on permanent hiatus after a motorcycle accident hospitalized the author's brother.

This Web Comic provides examples of

  • Action Prologue: The comic begins with Kain fighting and killing a monster, two weeks before he moves to New Babylon.
  • Animesque - Burrel drew a lot of inspiration from various anime series.
  • Badass Cape - Liana's cape, which appears to have been ripped up in combat.
  • Batman Cold Open: The aforementioned Action Prologue has no connection to the plot aside from showcasing Kain's abilities for the first time.
  • Cool Mask - The Demon Hunter body armor's one feature.

  • Demon Slaying - Kain and his mother's stock in trade.
  • Katanas Are Just Better - Kain's abilities include conjuring a Tanto out of thin air, and upgrading it into a katana.
  • Magic Knight: In addition to their enhanced physical abilities, the Demon Hunters can also cast magic spells.
  • Medicate the Medium - Zandalee's backstory so far. She spent four years in a mental institution, until the spirits either left her alone for a while or the medication dulled her sensitivity.
  • Nice Guy: Kain himself, whenever he's off the job.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Some demons devour souls and enslave humans. Some demons can be reasonable. And then there are demons who mass-murder for sport. Kain specifically targets the third group.
  • Power Incontinence - The cause of Zandalee's "hallucinations".
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation - Kain's knives.

  • Webcomic Time: Lampshaded after an extensive flashback: "Man, feels like I've been talking for two years."
