Web Animation / The Demon Slayers

Go To

Action/horror series of Garry's Mod videos with prominent supernatural motifs, created by YouTube users SarisKhan, Shirosaki97 and Xho3546. The series features the eponymous Demon Slayers, that is a team of spirit TF2 Freaks who pursue and combat demonic and other malevolent supernatural entities.

Inspired by Bleach and Silent Hill.

The series began on 20 October 2012 and may be watched here.

This series provides examples of:

  • All There in the Manual - some extra information, such as character names or the explanation for Avatar's presence, is provided on the TF2 FreakShow Wiki.
  • Art Evolution - all characters received high-definition models and/or textures as part of the TF2 FreakShow HD Project. The most noticeable changes are to Reaper and Spanner, and the former had his design altered as well.
  • BFS - Nightmare Medic wields a man-sized demonic sword as his primary weapon.
  • Big Bad
    • Nightmare Medic is the official main antagonist of the series.
    • Slender Mann has become a secondary, independent one since his introduction.
  • The Blank - Slender Mann has a white, featureless face.
  • Came Back Wrong - Warrior returns from his death at the hands of Nightmare Medic... as a milky-eyed wraith at the service of Slender Mann.
  • Combat Tentacles - Slender Mann can use those to hurl his opponents across the room or violently dismember them.
  • Creepy Monotone - Slender Mann speaks like that with his... voices.
  • Damaged Soul - Warrior is back as the Avatar. However, his personality has been warped and his loyalty to former friends turned into a dark fixation.
  • Darker and Edgier - than most YouTube videos which feature TF2 Freaks.
  • Dark Is Not Evil - applies to the Demon Slayers, who wear black or grey uniforms but are definitely the good guys.
  • Demon Slaying - pretty much what he heroes do. Duh.
  • Energy Absorption - Soul Scout's special ability allows him to sap the energy of his enemies with so-called Energy Mines.
  • Every Japanese Sword is a Katana - averted with Spanner, who wields a less common tantō as his default weapon.
  • Expy - Slender Mann is one of, no points for guessing, the Slender Man. He's got a few distinct traits, but the inspiration is obvious.
  • Faceless Goons - the Men of Mystery. They wear bandages that completely conceal their faces.
  • Fighting Series - many Gmod series focus either on comedy or combat. This one favours the latter.
  • Flashback - most of Episode 7, Warrior, which reveals the fate of the titular Demon Slayer.
  • Flash Step - the Demon Slayers employ an analogous technique in order to catch up with their opponents in the blink of an eye or evade attacks.
  • Four Is Death - Warrior used to be the 4th Seat Officer of his unit. He also met his end at the hands of Nightmare Medic before the series started.
  • Good is Not Nice - Reaper is rather strict and ruthless.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be - Pyre's ultimate fate at the hands of Reaper and his Bankai.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice - the way Warrior meets his demise at the hands of Nightmare Medic.
  • Implausible Fencing Powers - the default fighting style of the heroes, at least until they resort to their unique special abilities.
  • In Medias Res - the series begins some time after the Demon Slayers have come to the TF2 Freak World and they already fight their supernatural enemies.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em
    • Hellfire: When Nightmare Medic gains the upper hand and severely wounds Reaper in a duel, the latter's teammates save their leader and retreat immediately together.
    • Slaughterhouse: Mender and Soul Scout attempt to engage Nightmare Medic, though the demon proves far too powerful. As such, the two retreat as soon as things go downhill.
  • Ludicrous Gibs - Slender Mann's victims usually end up like this.
  • Master Swordsman - although his subordinates are all proficient, Reaper is this.
  • No-Sell - Nightmare Medic is unfazed by Warrior's attacks.
  • The Paralyzer - Mender has the ability to temporarily render his opponent's limbs numb instead of cutting them. This resulted in Bits of Me Keep Passing Out for Behemoth during a fight.
  • Playing with Fire - most of the demonic Freaks possess a degree of pyrokinesis.
  • Posthumous Character - Warrior, one of the Demon Slayers, had been killed before the current day events began as revealed in a flashback. This doesn't stop him from having an impact on the plot, one way or another.
  • Power Glows - swords of the Demon Slayers shine briefly whenever they are released.
  • Super Mode - while all Demon Slayers can release their swords to unlock their special abilities, Reaper's Bankai comes with a proper power increase.
  • Voice of the Legion
    • Nightmare Medic speaks with a deep, reverberating voice. Doubles as Black Speech.
    • Slender Mann may actually communicate... telepathically. He sounds like several people (of both genders, to boot) who speak the same words but somewhat out of sync with each other.
